Background  

Inflammation around cell bodies of primary sensory neurons and retinal ganglion cells enhances expression of neuronal growth-associated genes and stimulates axonal regeneration. We have asked if inflammation would have similar effects on corticospinal neurons, which normally show little response to spinal cord injury. Lipopolysaccharide (LPS) was applied onto the pial surface of the motor cortex of adult rats with or without concomitant injury of the corticospinal tract at C4. Inflammation around corticospinal tract cell bodies in the motor cortex was assessed by immunohistochemistry for OX42 (a microglia and macrophage marker). Expression of growth-associated genes c-jun, ATF3, SCG10 and GAP-43 was investigated by immunohistochemistry or in situ hybridisation.  相似文献

Retention indices were computed for all of the 210 possible chlorinated biphenyls on 13 gas chromatographic liquid phases. All possible pairwise comparisons of retention indices were made for each liquid phase, each pair of liquid phases and each set of three liquid phases. On the basis of a closeness criterion of 10 (deltaRI = RIa - RIb = 10), those combinations of three or fewer liquid phases which could distinguish between nearly all possible pairs of chlorinated biphenyls were selected. Further considerations such as column efficiencies, analysis time required, resolution achievable and availability led to the selection of several common liquid phases for the qualitative and, in some cases, quantitative analysis of the individual components of mixtures of polychlorinated biphenyls. The nucleide 73Kr has been identified by on-line mass separation as a precursor of β-delayed proton emission. The proton branch is (6.8 ±1.2) × 10−3 proton/decay. The protons populate the ground state and also the first excited 2+ state at 866 keV in 72Se with a relative intensity of (35±9) %. The value of QECBp, where Bp is the proton separation energy for the nucleus 73Br, is found to be 4.85 ±0.30 MeV based on the fraction of proton events preceded by positron decay.  相似文献

A variety of eleclrophilic substitution reactions have been carried out on 4-methoxybenzo[b]-thiophene (IIIa) and 4-benzoyloxybenzo[b ] thiophene (IVa). Substitution occurs in the 7-position of IIIa and, with the exception of bromination, in the 7-position of IVa. Bromination of IVa occurs in the 3-position. Bromination of 4-hydroxybenzo[b] thiophene (IIa) occurs in the 5-position. The nmr spectra of eleven disubstituted benzo[b] thiophenes have been tabulated.  相似文献

The Tg.AC mouse is a good predictor of carcinogenic potential when the test article is administered by dorsal painting (Tennant et al. (1995) Environ. Health Perspect. 103, 942). We have used lomefloxacin (LOME) and 8-methoxypsoralen (8-MOP) in combination with UVA to determine whether the Tg.AC transgenic mouse also responds to parenterally administered photocarcinogens. Female Tg.AC mice were given LOME (25 mg/kg intraperitoneal in normal saline) followed by UVA (25 J/cm2) 1-2 h later, five times every 2 weeks on a repetitive schedule. Other groups received LOME, UVA or vehicle alone. After 16 weeks, the mean numbers of papillomas/mouse +/- SD (% responding) were: saline, 0.3 +/- 0.5 (33%); UVA + saline, 1.3 +/- 0.6 (100%); LOME, 1.9 +/- 1.6 (86%) and LOME-UVA, 1.5 +/- 1.9 (64%). Only the 100% incidence of tumors in the UVA group and the maximum tumor yields in the LOME and UVA groups are significant (P < 0.05) when compared with the control. In a second study, Tg.AC mice were administered the classical photocarcinogen 8-MOP (8 mg/kg intragastric in corn oil) followed by 2 J/cm2 UVA 1-2 h later, five times every 2 weeks on a repetitive schedule. The second group received 8-MOP, whereas the third was exposed to UVA alone. Papillomas began to appear at 2 weeks in the 8-MOP-UVA group, and after 17 weeks the mean numbers of papillomas/mouse +/- SD (% responding) were: 8-MOP-UVA, 6.9 +/- 8.6 (93%); UVA + corn oil, 1.1 +/- 1.2 (69%) and 8-MOP, 1.1 +/- 1.6 (50%). The maximum tumor yield in the 8-MOP-UVA group was significantly higher (P < 0.01) than that in the other two groups. Our findings suggest that more studies need to be done before the Tg.AC mouse can be used with confidence to identify parenterally administered photocarcinogens.  相似文献
