The lattice profile analyzes the intrinsic structure of pseudorandom number sequences with applications in Monte Carlo methods and cryptology. In this paper, using the discrete Fourier transform for periodic sequences and the relation between the lattice profile and the linear complexity, we give general formulas for the expected value, variance, and counting function of the lattice profile of periodic sequences with fixed period. Moreover, we determine in a more explicit form the expected value, variance, and counting function of the lattice profile of periodic sequences for special values of the period.  相似文献

We consider optimal control problems for systems described by stochastic differential equations with delay. We state conditions for certain classes of such systems under which the stochastic control problems become finite-dimensional. These conditions are illustrated with three applications. First, we solve some linear quadratic problems with delay. Then we find the optimal consumption rate in a financial market with delay. Finally, we solve explicitly a deterministic fluid problem with delay which arises from admission control in ATM communication networks.  相似文献

In this paper we present an analytical model, which considers the effects of the switching time on the network performance in service differentiated optical packet/burst switching (OPS/OBS) networks. Our results indicate that the switching time must be less than 10 % of the packet/burst duration in order to avoid any significant reductions in the network performance. Furthermore, regarding a network with full wavelength conversion, we show that the benefits of statistical resource sharing are almost non-existent for low priority traffic when the switching time is large.  相似文献

Summary We report on novel optical techniques, based on evanescent waves, for the characterization of polymer surfaces and thin films. We first describe photo-ablation studies with polysilane films investigated by surface plasmon microscopy, a technique which is particularly well-suited for ultrathin samples. Thicker films that are homogeneous enough to carry optical waveguide modes can be characterized with high lateral resolution by the recently developed waveguide microscopy. We demonstrate this for a thin film of a solid polyelectrolyte. Finally, we report on surface plasmon field-enhanced Raman-spectroscopic and -imaging investigations of ultrathin Langmuir-Blodgett-Kuhn-layers of cadmium arachidate.W. Given a linear space F of complex-valued functions on a set X and a polynomial p(z), is there an algebraic composition operator on F whose characteristic polynomial equals p(z)? This article deals with Leibniz's reception of Descartes' “geometry.” Leibnizian mathematics was based on five fundamental notions: calculus, characteristic, art of invention, method, and freedom. On the basis of methodological considerations Leibniz criticized Descartes' restriction of geometry to objects that could be given in terms of algebraic (i.e., finite) equations: “Descartes's mind was the limit of science.” The failure of algebra to solve equations of higher degree led Leibniz to develop linear algebra, and the failure of algebra to deal with transcendental problems led him to conceive of a science of the infinite. Hence Leibniz reconstructed the mathematical corpus, created new (transcendental) notions, and redefined known notions (equality, exactness, construction), thus establishing “a veritable complement of algebra for the transcendentals”: infinite equations, i.e., infinite series, became inestimable tools of mathematical research.  相似文献
