The formation of iron carbides by reactive milling of α-Fe and C powders is reported. The products formed were analyzed by Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. It was found that iron carbide phases start forming after an incubation period of about 3 h depending on the ball-to-powder weight ratio (BPR). Carbide amounts increased with increasing milling time while α-Fe content decreased. Energy transfer increased with increasing BPR and high BPR resulted in an increase in the reaction rate. Although it was not possible to selectively synthesise a specific Fe x C phase, samples containing predominantly one type of carbide phase, either Hägg carbide or cementite, were successfully prepared. The formation of the different iron carbide phases is discussed within the context of the Fe–C phase diagram for non-equilibrium processes.  相似文献

This study examines the difficulties college students experience when creating and interpreting graphs in which speed is one of the variables. Nineteen students, all preservice elementary or middle school teachers, completed an upper‐level course exploring algebraic concepts. Although all of these preservice teachers had previously completed several mathematics courses, including calculus, they demonstrated widespread misconceptions about the variable speed. This study identifies four cognitive obstacles held by the students, provides excerpts of their graphical constructions and verbal interpretations, and discusses potential causes for the confusion. In particular, misconceptions arose when students interpreted the behavior and nature of speed within a graphical context, as well as in situations where they were required to construct a graph involving speed as a variable. The study concludes by offering implications for the teaching and learning of speed and its interpretation within a graphical setting.  相似文献

We report high-performance liquid chromatographic methods using ultraviolet detection, developed for the first time in our laboratory with sensitivity to detect clinically significant concentrations of metrifonate (MTF), an experimental drug for Alzheimer disease, and its active anticholinesterase metabolite, dichlorvos (DDVP). The determination limit of the method for MTF and DDVP was 1 microgram/ml and 40 ng/ml, respectively. Stability of MTF and DDVP at various temperatures in water, buffered solutions and in human plasma were also studied.  相似文献

The successive addition of KCN and Ph3CCl to B(C6F4-C6F5-2)3 (PBB) affords triphenylmethyl salts of the [NC-PBB]- anion. By contrast, the analogous reaction with sodium dicyanamide followed by treatment with Ph(3)CCl leads to the zwitterionic aminoborane H2NB(C12F9)2C12F8, via nucleophilic attack on an o-F atom, together with CPh3[F-PBB]. Whereas treatment of [NC-PBB]- with either PBB or B(C6F5)3 fails to give isolable cyano-bridged diborates, the reaction of Me3SiNC-B(C6F5)3 with PBB in the presence of Ph3CCl affords [Ph3C][PBB-NC-B(C6F5)3]. Due to steric hindrance this anion is prone to borane dissociation. The longer linking group N(CN)2- gives the very voluminous anions [N[CNB(C6F5)3]2]- and [N(CN-PBB)2]-. A comparison of propylene polymerisations with rac-Me2Si(Ind)2ZrMe2 activated with the various boranes or trityl borates gives an anion-dependent activity sequence, in the order [NC-PBB]- < [MeB(C6F5)3]- < [MePBB]- approximately [PBB-NCB(C6F5)3]- approximately [N[CNB(C6F5)3]2]- < [F-PBB]-< [B(C6F5)4]- < [N(CN-PBB)2]-. The anion [N(CN-PBB)2]- gives a catalyst productivity about 2500 times higher than that of [NC-PBB]- and exceeds that of [B(C6F5)4]- based catalysts. The van der Waals volumes and surface areas of the anions have been calculated and provide a rationale for the observed reactivity trends in polymerisation reactions.  相似文献

Fast atom bombardment, combined with high-energy collision-induced tandem mass spectrometry, has been used to investigate gas-phase metal-ion interactions with captopril, enalaprilat and lisinopril, all angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors.Suggestions for the location of metal-binding sites are presented. For captopril, metal binding occurs most likely at both the sulphur and the nitrogen atom. For enalaprilat and lisinopril, binding preferably occurs at the amine nitrogen. Ag nanowires and nanoparticles have been formed on hybrid λ-DNA/conducting polymer templates. The strong, but non-covalent, interaction of the conducting polymer with the double helix allowed us to incorporate chemical functionalities (alkynyl) into the DNA/conducting polymer strands by synthesis of functional monomers. Oxidative polymerisation of alkynyl-thienylpyrrole in the presence of λ-DNA produced conductive nanowires bearing alkyne groups; we show, using a combination of AFM, cAFM and EFM phase measurements that the alkyne functionality strong influences the subsequent templating reaction of Tollens’ reagent to produce uniform conductive nanowires comprised of many connected Ag clusters.  相似文献

Modified iron phosphate glasses have been prepared with nominal molar compositions [(1?x)·(0.6P2O5–0.4Fe2O3)]·xRySO4, where x = 0–0.5 in increments of 0.1 and R = Li, Na, K, Mg, Ca, Ba, or Pb and y = 1 or 2. In most cases the vast majority or all of the sulfate volatalizes and quarternary P2O5–Fe2O3–FeO–RyOz glasses or partially crystalline materials are formed. Here we have characterized the structure, thermal properties, chemical durability and redox state of these materials. Raman spectroscopy indicates that increasing modifier oxide additions result in depolymerization of the phosphate network such that the average value of i, the number of bridging oxygens per –(PO4)– tetrahedron, and expressed as Qi, decreases. Differences have been observed between the structural effects of different modifier types but these are secondary to the amount of modifier added. Alkali additions have little effect on density; slightly increasing Tg and Td; increasing α and Tliq; and promoting bulk crystallization at temperatures of 600–700 °C. Additions of divalent cations increase density, α, Tg, Td, Tliq and promote bulk crystallization at temperatures of 700–800 °C. Overall the addition of divalent cations has a less deleterious effect on glass stability than alkali additions. 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy confirms that iron is present as Fe2+ and Fe3+ ions which primarily occupy distorted octahedral sites. This is consistent with accepted structural models for iron phosphate glasses. The iron redox ratio, Fe2+/ΣFe, has a value of 0.13–0.29 for the glasses studied. The base glass exhibits a very low aqueous leach rate when measured by Product Consistency Test B, a standard durability test for nuclear waste glasses. The addition of high quantities of alkali oxide (30–40 mol% R2O) to the base glass increases leach rates, but only to levels comparable with those measured for a commercial soda-lime-silica glass and for a surrogate nuclear waste-loaded borosilicate glass. Divalent cation additions decrease aqueous leach rates and large additions (30–50 mol% RO) provide exceptionally low leach rates that are 2–3 orders of magnitude lower than have been measured for the surrogate waste-loaded borosilicate glass. The P2O5–Fe2O3–FeO–BaO glasses reported here show particular promise as they are ultra-durable, thermally stable, low-melting glasses with a large glass-forming compositional range.  相似文献

This paper describes a rapid technique for reconstruction of the internal area function of a duct using blockage-induced eigenvalue shifts determined from eigenfrequencies measured under two sets of duct termination boundary conditions. A single broad band maximum length sequence (MLS) measurement of short duration is utilized to obtain the transfer function of the duct, which in turn can be utilized to determine its eigenvalue shifts and subsequently its internal area function using an inverse perturbation technique. The reconstruction results display the same order of accuracy as those obtained previously using swept sine measurements of extended duration. An expression for the determination of the area function is presented utilizing resonant frequency information alone, thus rendering duct length determination unnecessary. A computational routine further simplifies the process such that the accuracy of the technique could be ascertained for a range of configurations including longer ducts and ducts that initially have nonuniform internal cross section over their length. Development of a relationship between obstacle length and wavelength of the lowest eigenfrequency required for successful reconstruction is also described. This is an important result for longer ducts where measurement of lower eigenfrequencies may present problems using standard measurement equipment.  相似文献
