Characterization of an Algerian diatomite by inverse gas chromatography: Specific and non-specific contribution and Lewis acid–base parameters

The fundamental understanding of the behavior of a solid is intimately related to the understanding of the interactions on the surface of the latter, a major challenge in particular if the material is natural and ecological. The infinite dilution-inverse gas chromatography was used to evaluate the surface thermodynamic properties of several phases (grafted and/or coated) diatomite. A series of non- or polar-solute probes were injected at temperatures of 45?°C and 90?°C. The dispersive surface free energies values of the supports decrease with increasing temperature and their active surface is amphoteric with predominantly acidic character.

The m-terphenyl 4-mercaptomethyl-2,6-diphenylbenzoic acid (3), was prepared and shown to form omega-carboxyl terminated self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold with high surface pKa(10.1 +/- 0.2) and low density favourable for the binding of biological macromolecules.     

On some algorithms for limiting average Markov decision processes

We consider limiting average Markov decision processes (MDP) with finite state and action spaces. We propose some algorithms to determine optimal strategies for deterministic and general MDPs. These algorithms are based on graph theory and the construction of levels in some aggregated MDP.     

Recent Analytical Method for Detection of Chemical Adulterants in Herbal Medicine

Herbal medicine has become popular in recent years as an alternative medicine. The problem arises when herbal medicines contain an undeclared synthetic drug that is illegally added, since it is a natural product that does not contain any chemical drugs due to the potential cause of harmful effects. Supervision of herbal medicines is important to ensure that these herbal medicines are still safe to use. Thus, developing a reliable analytical technique for the determination of adulterated drugs in herbal medicine is gaining interest. This review aims to provide a recent analytical method that has been used within the past 5 years (2016–2021) for the determination of chemical adulterants in herbal medicine.

A New Decomposition Approach for Non-Cyclic Continuous Material Flow Lines with a Merging Flow of Material

We extend the decomposition approaches for flow lines with unreliable machines and limited buffer capacity as proposed by Gershwin and refined by Dallery, David, and Xie and by Burman by incorporating a new building block in the decomposition. This new building block is a three-machine, one buffer system which models a merging flow of material. While previous decomposition approaches led to a decomposition of the original network into virtual two-machine lines, we now use both virtual two- and three-machine lines. This requires a new set of decomposition equations for the virtual machines of the two-machine lines that surround the new building block modelling the merge. We present these equations, show how to solve them in an algorithm and present numerical results for non-cyclic networks in order to determine production rate and inventory level estimates.
