The conditions signaling the formation of bidisperse brushes in ordered block copolymers are investigated as an A(2) block is progressively grown onto an A(1)B diblock copolymer to form a series of molecularly asymmetric, isomorphic A(1)BA(2) triblock copolymers. Small-angle scattering and self-consistent field theory confirm that the microphase-ordered period decreases when the A(2) block is short relative to the A(1) block, but then increases as A(1)+A(2) bidisperse brushes develop. The mechanical properties systematically follow the spatial distribution of the A(2) block.  相似文献

Zero-valent palladium precatalysts containing rigid bidentate bis(arylimino)acenaphthene ligands (shown schematically) facilitate the highly stereoselective homogeneous catalytic hydrogenation of alkynes to (Z)-alkenes. Internal, terminal, aryl-substituted, and cyclic alkynes are suitable substrates, as are some enynes, which are chemoselectively hydrogenated to dienes. The sensitivity of all ion trap mass spectrometry (ITMS) methods is dependent on the trapping efficiency of the instrument. For ITMS instruments utilizing external ion sources, such as laser desorption, trapping efficiency is known to depend on the phase and amplitude of the radio frequency (RF) potential applied to the ring electrode at the time of ion introduction. It is remarkable that, in a considerable body of literature, no consensus exists regarding the effects of these parameters on the efficacy of trapping externally generated ions. In this paper, a summary of the literature is presented in order to highlight significant discrepancies. New laser desorption ion trap mass spectrometry (LD-ITMS) data are also presented, from which conclusions are drawn in our effort to clarify some of the confusion. The design, fabrication, and testing of photoelastic models of double-lap, multiple-pin connectors are discussed. Interest is in the stresses in the inner laps. These stresses are determined by constructing models with photoelastic inner laps and transparent-acrylic outer laps. The connectors have two pins, in tandem, parallel to the load direction. A photoelastic-isotropic point is shown to permit the evaluation of load sharing between the two pins. A numerical scheme, utilizing the isochromatic- and isoclinic-photoelastic data and a finite-difference representation of the planestress equilibrium equations, is used to compute the stresses around the two pins. Representative stress distributions and stress-concentration factors are shown.  相似文献

Forced Rayleigh scattering (FRS) has been used to measure the self-diffusion coefficient, D, of a lamellar-forming polystyrene-polyisoprene diblock copolymer (MPS = 1.0 X 104, MPI = 1.3 X 104) as a function of temperature. The measurements traverse the order-disorder transition (ODT), which occurs at 160°C. There is no obvious change in either D or the temperature dependence of D at the ODT, in agreement with measurements on several other systems. Electron microscopy confirms that the sample in the ordered state is quenched, with no long-range orientation of lamellae, and a typical grain size well below 1 μm. In contrast to previous measurements on a similar styrene-isoprene diblock, these FRS signals are well-described by single exponential decays; this may be largely attributed to differences in average grain size. The temperature dependence of D is modeled with several empirical expressions, based on the known monomeric friction factors for pure polystyrene and pure polyisoprene, but without quantitative success. These results underscore the need for a greater understanding of the composition and temperature dependences of local friction in polymer mixtures. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.  相似文献

The transformation from A(1)B diblock copolymer to A(1)BA(2) triblock copolymers varying in molecular asymmetry is investigated as the A(2) end block is progressively grown via chemical synthesis. Dynamic rheological measurements show that the order-disorder transition (ODT) temperatures of two copolymer series differing in composition and molecular weight decrease when the A(2) block is short relative to the A(1) block, and then increase as the length of the A(2) block is increased further. The resultant ODT minimum, predicted by mean-field theory, is attributed to mixing between long B and short A(2) blocks.  相似文献

Forced Rayleigh scattering has been employed to measure tracer and self-diffusion in block copolymer melts, for both entangled and unentangled systems, and in both the ordered and disordered states. It is shown that entanglements are particularly effective in retarding the motion of copolymers parallel to the interface between microdomains. The mechanisms of “activated reptation” and “block retraction” are proposed for parallel diffusion. The importance of large amplitude composition fluctuations in the disordered state near the ordering transition is also demonstrated, for both copolymer and homopolymer tracers; the results suggest that copolymer tracers are more affected than homopolymers of comparable molecular weight.  相似文献
