Summary Optically pure (+)-beta-eudesmol is a possible starting material for the synthesis of several termite defense compounds. A two step procedure for the isolation of gram quantities of (+)-beta-eudesmol from commercially availableAmyris balsamifera oil (syn. West Indian sandalwood oil), containing 8% beta-eudesmol, was developed. Step one consisted of an efficient vacuum distillation of the total oil. Step two was a medium pressure LC separation with an AgNO3 impregnated silica gel stationary phase. Several other separation procedures failed due to the presence of many closely related sesquiterpene alcohols (75% of the oil).  相似文献

We try to explain the short-range repulsive force between surfaces as a consequence of a decrease in the configurational entropy of liquid molecules in the gap region as the width of the gap decreases. A simple model shows that the density has an oscillating variation when the surfaces are pushed towards each other. As a consequence, an oscillating repulsive force appears between the macroscopic surfaces, which is the result of a loss of configurational freedom of the liquid molecules because of their orientation in the gap. A series of polylactide-poly(ethylene glycol) (PLA-PEG) block copolymers with a high PEG fraction were synthesized by the ring-opening polymerization of L- or D-lactide in the presence of mono- or dihydroxyl PEG using nontoxic zinc lactate as a catalyst. Micelles were then prepared by direct dissolution of the obtained water-soluble copolymers in an aqueous medium without heating or using any organic solvents. Large anisotropic micelles instead of conventional spherical ones were observed from a transmission electron microscopy examination. Various parameters influencing the structure of the novel micelles were considered, such as the copolymer chain structure, molar mass, PEG fraction, copolymer concentration, and stereocomplexation between L- and D-PLA blocks. Anisotropic micelles were obtained for both diblock and triblock copolymers but vanished with increasing molar mass of the copolymers. The morphology of micelles strongly depends on the PEG fraction. Anisotropic micelles were found only in an intermediate EO/LA ratio range in which a higher PEG fraction leads to a higher length/width ratio of micelles. Stereocomplexation between L- and D-PLA or a lower concentration disfavors the formation of anisotropic micelles. Under appropriate concentrations, spherical and anisotropic micelles coexist in the same micellar solution. Moreover, it was found that anisotropic micelles are susceptible to further self-assemble into more organized complex aggregates. Similar results were obtained from light scattering and aqueous gel permeation chromatography measurements. A novel model is proposed to explain the formation of anisotropic micelles and the effects of various parameters on the structure of micelles in an aqueous medium.  相似文献

Mesoporous carbons containing cobalt nanoparticles are synthesized by tri-or quad-constituent self assembly of Pluronic F127, phenol-formaldehyde oligomer (resol), cobalt acetylacetonate (acac), and optionally tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS, optional). Upon pyrolysis in N2 atmosphere, the resol provides sufficient carbon yield to maintain the ordered structure, while decomposition of the Co(acac) yields cobalt nanoparticles. To provide increased surface area, the dispersed silicate from condensation of TEOS can be etched after carbonization to yield micropores, Without silica templated micropores, the surface area decreases as the cobalt content increases, but there is a concurrent increase in the volume-average pore diameter (BHJ) and a dramatic increase in the adsorption capacity of methylene green with the equilibrium adsorption capacity from 2 to 90 mg/g with increasing Co content. Moreover, the surface area and pore size of mesoporous composites can be dramatically increased by addition of TEOS and subsequent etching. These composites exhibit extremely high adsorption capacity up to 1151 mg/g, which also increases with increases in the Co content. Additionally, the inclusion of cobalt nanoparticles provides magnetic separation from aqueous suspension. The in situ synthesis of the Co nanoparticles yields to a carbon shell that can partially protect the Co from leaching in acidic media; after 96 h in 2 M HCl, the powders remain magnetic.  相似文献

Ring-opening polymerization of D,L-lactide was carried out in the presence of monohydroxylated poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) with Mn of 2000 and 5000, using zinc powder as catalyst. The resulting PEG-b-polylactide (PEG-PLA) diblocks with various ethylene oxide/lactyl (EO/LA) ratios were coupled with adipoyl chloride to yield PEG-PLA-PEG triblock copolymers. N-Dimethylaminopyridine (DMAP) was used as catalyst. The obtained PEG-PLA-PEG triblock copolymers were characterized by various analytical techniques such as IR, 1H NMR, size exclusion chromatography, X-ray diffraction, and differential scanning calorimetry. Data showed that all the copolymers were semicrystalline with the PEG-type crystalline structure, the crystallinity decreasing with increasing PLA block length. Bioresorbable hydrogels were prepared from the water-soluble triblock copolymers. Rheological measurements showed a gel-sol transition with increasing temperature and gelation was found to be thermoreversible. The copolymer solution behaves like a viscoelastic liquid above the gel point and like a viscoelastic solid below the gel point. The critical gelation concentration, the gel-sol transition temperature at a given concentration, and corresponding moduli depend on both the EO/LA ratio and the molecular weight of the copolymers. It is assumed that gelation results from interactions between PEG blocks at low temperatures and that these interactions are disrupted as the temperature is elevated. The shrinking of PEG blocks with increasing temperature seems to be in agreement with the variation of the gel-sol transition temperatures.  相似文献

Detailed diagnostic of antiproton beams at low energies is required for essentially all experiments at the Antiproton Decelerator (AD), but will be particularly important for the future Extra Low ENergy Antiproton ring (ELENA) and its keV beam lines to the different experiments. Many monitors have been successfully developed and operated at the AD, but in particular beam profile monitoring remains a challenge. A dedicated beam instrumentation and detector test stand has recently been setup at the AE \(\bar {g}\) IS experiment (Antimatter Experiment: Gravity, Interferometry, Spectroscopy). Located behind the actual experiment, it allows for parasitic use of the antiproton beam at different energies for testing and calibration. With the aim to explore and validate different candidate technologies for future low energy beam lines, as well as the downstream antihydrogen detector in AE \(\bar {g}\) IS, measurements have been carried out using Silicon strip and pixel detectors, a purpose-built secondary emission monitor and emulsions. Here, results from measurements and characterization of the different detector types with regard to their future use at the AD complex are presented.  相似文献

The adsorption of proteinase K on PLLA and PDLA films was studied by CA, surface tension, and microscopic measurements. ESEM clearly shows that proteinase K can irreversibly adsorb on PLLA film. In contrast, no enzyme adsorption was detected on PDLA film under the same conditions. The CA of PLLA film rapidly decreases after immersion in Tris buffer containing proteinase K, whereas that of PDLA remains unchanged. These findings indicate that enzyme adsorption may be a prerequisite for enzymatic degradation of polylactide substrates. Surface tension measurements allow calculation of the average area occupied per proteinase K molecule. The results show that the enzyme molecules exhibit a more compact conformation at higher temperature.  相似文献
