Cobalt(II) and nickel(II) chloride complexes with some 2-(4′-Methyl-2′-pyridyl and 2′- or 8′-quinolyl)benz-X-azoles

Summary Complexes of general formula ML_mCl₂ · nH₂O, where M=cobalt(II) or nickel(II); L=2-(4-methyl, 2-pyridyl)-benzimidazole (mpbi), 2-(4-methyl, 2-pyridyl)benzothiazole (mpbt), 2-(4-methyl, 2-pyridyl)benzoxazole (mpbo), 2-(4-methyl, 2-quinolyl)benzoxazole (mqbo), or 2-(4-methyl, 8-quinolyl)benzoxazole (mqbo); m=1,2; n=0–3, were prepared and characterized by t.g.a., conductance and magnetic measurements, i.r. and diffuse-reflectance electronic spectra.All the ligands behave as bidentate and coordinate through the pyridine- and isoxazole-nitrogen atoms.The nickel complexes have distorted octahedral or fivecoordinate structures. The cobalt complexes arepseudo-tet- rahedral except Co(mpbo)₂Cl₂·2H₂O where the metal is six-coordinate.     

Spectrophotometric determination of advanced products of non-enzymatic glycosylation of lysine by means of their reaction with diazonium salts

A typical product (glycosyl lysine) formed by reaction of lysine with glyceraldehyde is measured at 490 nm after coupling with diazotized sulfanilic acid. Reaction with 4-dimethylaminobenzaldehyde was less satisfactory.     

On the self-condensation of aminoguanidine leading to 1,1,4,10,10-pentaamino-2,3,5,6,8,9-hexaazadeca-1,3,5,7,9-pentaene (structure elucidation through X-ray powder diffraction)

Chemical and spectroscopic (UV; ¹H, ¹³C, ¹⁵N NMR; HRMS) studies determined the structure of 1,1,4,10,10-pentaamino-2,3,5,6,8,9-hexaazadeca-1,3,5,7,9-pentaene for the red-violet compound, which was obtained by treating aminoguanidine hydrochloride with KOH. X-ray powder diffraction and lattice-constrained PBC-DFT optimization confirmed this structure and defined a linear all-trans configuration.     

Copper(II) chloride complexes of 2-(4′-Methyl-2′-pyridyl)-benzoxazole,their sulphur and nitrogen analogues and 2-(4′-Methyl-2′ {or8′} -quinolyl)benzoxazoles

Summary Copper(II) complexes CuLCl₂, where L=2-(4-methyl-2-pyridyl)benzimidazole(mpbi); 2-(4-methyl-2-pyridyl)benzothiazole(mpbt); 2-(4-methyl-2-pyridyl)benzoxazole (mpbo); 2-(4-methyl-2-quinolyl)benzoxazole (mqbo); 2-(4-methyl8-quinolyl)benzoxazole (mqbo), and Cu(mpbi)₂Cl₂(H₂O) have been synthesized and characterized by conductivity and magnetic measurements as well as by i.r., electronic and e.s.r. spectra. The ligands are bidentate donors through the pyridine and isoxazole nitrogen atoms. The CuLCl₂ complexes exhibit spectral properties consistent with CuN₂Cl₂ chromophores differing in the degree of tetrahedral distortion, which is found to parallel the steric hindrance near the donor sites. Cu(mpbi)₂ Cl₂(H₂O) is five-coordinate.

Employment of Phenolic Compounds from Olive Vegetation Water in Broiler Chickens: Effects on Gut Microbiota and on the Shelf Life of Breast Fillets

Olive vegetation water (OVW) is a by-product with a noticeable environmental impact; however, its polyphenols may be reused food and feed manufacture as high-value ingredients with antioxidant/antimicrobial activities. The effect of dietary supplementation with OVW polyphenols on the gut microbiota, carcass and breast quality, shelf life, and lipid oxidation in broiler chickens has been studied. Chicks were fed diets supplemented with crude phenolic concentrate (CPC) obtained from OVW (220 and 440 mg/kg phenols equivalent) until reaching commercial size. Cloacal microbial community (rRNA16S sequencing) was monitored during the growth period. Breasts were submitted to culture-dependent and -independent microbiological analyses during their shelf-life. Composition, fatty acid concentration, and lipid oxidation of raw and cooked thawed breasts were measured. Growth performance and gut microbiota were only slightly affected by the dietary treatments, while animal age influenced the cloacal microbiota. The supplementation was found to reduce the shelf life of breasts due to the growth of spoilers. Chemical composition and lipid oxidation were not affected. The hydroxytyrosol (HT) concentration varied from 178.6 to 292.4 ug/kg in breast muscle at the beginning of the shelf-life period. The identification of HT in meat demonstrates that the absorption and metabolism of these compounds was occurring efficiently in the chickens.
