The performance of a range density functional theory functionals combined in a quantum mechanical (QM)/molecular mechanical (MM) approach was investigated in their ability to reliably provide geometries, electronic distributions, and relative energies of a multicentered open‐shell mechanistic intermediate in the mechanism 8R–Lipoxygenase. With the use of large QM/MM active site chemical models, the smallest average differences in geometries between the catalytically relevant quartet and sextet complexes were obtained with the B3LYP* functional. Moreover, in the case of the relative energies between 4II and 6II , the use of the B3LYP* functional provided a difference of 0.0 kcal mol–1. However, B3LYP± and B3LYP also predicted differences in energies of less than 1 kcal mol–1. In the case of describing the electronic distribution (i.e., spin density), the B3LYP*, B3LYP, or M06‐L functionals appeared to be the most suitable. Overall, the results obtained suggest that for systems with multiple centers having unpaired electrons, the B3LYP* appears most well rounded to provide reliable geometries, electronic structures, and relative energies. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.  相似文献

Recently, chalcogen bonding has been investigated in more detail in organocatalysis and the scope of activated functionalities continues to increase. Herein, the activation of imines in a Povarov [4+2] cycloaddition reaction with bidentate cationic chalcogen bond donors is presented. Tellurium-based Lewis acids show superior properties compared to selenium-based catalysts and inactive sulfur-based analogues. The catalytic activity of the chalcogen bonding donors increases with weaker binding anions. Triflate, however, is not suitable due to its participation in the catalytic pathway. A solvent screening revealed a more efficient activation in less polar solvents and a pronounced effect of solvent (and catalyst) on endo : exo diastereomeric ratio. Finally, new chiral chalcogen bonding catalysts were applied but provided only racemic mixtures of the product.  相似文献

The dehydrotropylium–Co2(CO)6 ion was generated by the action of HBF4 or BF3 ? OEt2 on the corresponding cycloheptadienynol complex, which in turn has been prepared in four steps from a known diacetoxycycloheptenyne complex. The reaction of the cycloheptadienynol complex via the dehydrotropylium–Co2(CO)6 ion with several nucleophiles results in substitution reactions with reactive nucleophiles (N>1) under normal conditions, and a radical dimerisation reaction in the presence of less reactive nucleophiles. Competitive reactions of the cycloheptadienynol complex with an acyclic trienynol complex show no preference for generation of the dehydrotropylium–Co2(CO)6 ion over an acyclic cation. DFT studies on the dehydrotropylium–Co2(CO)6 ion, specifically evaluation of its harmonic oscillator model of aromaticity (HOMA) value (+0.95), its homodesmotic‐reaction‐based stabilisation energy (≈2.8 kcal mol?1) and its NICS(1) value (?2.9), taken together with the experimental studies suggest that the dehydrotropylium–Co2(CO)6 ion is weakly aromatic.  相似文献

The interaction of the nitric oxide ions NO+ and NO- with benzene (C6H6) and the aromatic R-groups of the amino acids phenylalanine (Phe), tyrosine (Tyr), histidine (His), and tryptophan (Trp) have been examined using the DFT method B3LYP and the conventional electron correlation method MP2. In particular, the structures and complexation energies of the resulting half-sandwich Ar...NO+/- and sandwich [Ar...NO...Ar]+/- complexes have been considered. For the Ar...NO+ complexes, the presence of an electron rich heteroatom within or attached to the ring is found to not preclude the cation...pi bound complex from being the most stable. Furthermore, unlike the anionic complexes, the pi...cation...pi ([Ar...NO...Ar]+) complexes do not correspond to a "doubling" of the parent half-sandwich.  相似文献
