The structure of nanodiamond water dispersions prepared under different conditions was investigated by small-angle neutron scattering at the scale of 1 to 100 nm. The study of diluted dispersions was regarded as of paramount importance. Similarly to previous studies, strong clustering of particles was revealed in the solutions. The typical size of clusters (40 nm and above) depends on the modification of the dispersions. A common property can be distinguished for different systems: the fractal dimension of the clusters is in the range of 2.3?C2.4, which indicates that there is a common clustering mechanism in such systems. Using contrast variation, the existence of a nondiamond component in the colloidal particles of the dispersions was confirmed; it correlates with the presence of a graphene shell on crystallite surfaces.  相似文献

The structure of filament amyloid aggregates of hen egg white lysozyme in water has been investigated by the small-angle X-ray scattering method. The experimental data are described by different cylindrical models, among which the best agreement is reached with the long helix model. A comparison of the results with the small-angle neutron scattering data reveals the influence of the heavy component of the solvent (a H2O/D2O mixture) on the structure of the filaments.  相似文献

The structural aspects of the formation of Ti-Ce-O nanoclusters in silicate glasses doped with oxides TiO2 and CeO2 have been studied by means of small-angle neutron scattering. It has been obtained that, in such glasses, complex oxide nanoclusters with sizes of 300–380 Å are formed; their average size increases and the fractal dimension is changed as the concentration of the initial oxides increases. Correlation between the structural characteristics of the nanoclusters and the optical properties of the doped silicate glasses is discussed.  相似文献

In order to directly observe neutron scattering by heavy fermion quasiparticles at low temperatures, a CeRu2Si2 single crystal has been studied by the small-angle neutron scattering method. In the experiment, neutron scattering is observed at T = 0.85 K for momentum transfers q ≤ 0.04 Å?1, which is treated as the orbital component of magnetic scattering by heavy fermion quasiparticles. It has been found that the application of a magnetic field H = 1 T leads to both an increase in the observed scattering and its anisotropy with respect to the field direction. Moreover, measurements in the magnetic field reveal additional scattering for q > 0.04 Å?1, which is well described by a Lorentzian and is interpreted as neutron magnetic scattering by spin-density fluctuations with a correlation radius Rc ≈ 30 Å.  相似文献

We use tools of the equilibrium statistical mechanics of disordered systems to study analytically the statistical properties of an ecosystem composed of N species interacting via random mutual interactions, as well as via deterministic self-interactions of order p>/=2. We show that the main effect of increasing the order of the interactions among the species is to make the system less competitive, in the sense that the fraction of extinct species is greatly reduced. In addition, we find that for p>2 there is a threshold value which gives a lower bound to the concentration of the surviving species, preventing then the existence of rare species and, consequently, increasing the robustness of the ecosystem to external perturbations.  相似文献

The fractal properties of xerogels of hydrated zirconium dioxide ZrO2, which are synthesized by precipitation from a zirconyl nitrate solution at various pH values, are studied. Small-angle neutron scattering data and low-temperature nitrogen adsorption data indicate the strong effect of the acidity of the medium on the fractal dimension of xerogels and the size of constituent monomer particles. It is shown that this effect is also characteristic of xerogels of hydrated hafnium dioxide HfO2, which is a chemical analogue of hydrated zirconium dioxide.  相似文献

The characteristics of the tripoli porous structure have been investigated by small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). Tripoli is a finely porous sedimentary rock formed by small spherical opal particles. Its main component is aqueous silica SiO2 · nH2O (80–90%). Tripoli is widely used in practice as a working medium for sorption filters and in some other commercial and construction technologies. The shape of the experimental SANS curves indicates the presence of small and large pores in tripoli. The small-pore size was estimated to be ~100 Å. The size of large pores turned out to be beyond the range of neutron wave vector transfers Q that are available for the instrument used; however, their size was indirectly estimated to be ~(2000–2500) Å. The pores of both groups behave as surfacetype fractal scatterers with the fractal dimension D ~ 2.2‐2.6. The densities of pores of these two groups differ by approximately three orders of magnitude (~1016 and ~1013 cm?3 for small and large pores, respectively); the fraction of large pores amounts to 70–80% of the total pore volume. The found pore characteristics (their densities, sizes, and relative volumes) are in satisfactory agreement (when a comparison is possible) with the absorption data.  相似文献

The influence of spacer group on the geometrical shape of micelles formed by quaternary-bis dimeric (Gemini) surfactants C(12)H(25)N(CH(3))(2)(CH(2))(s)N(CH(3))(2)C(12)H(25) (12-s-12) has been investigated with small-angle neutron scattering (SANS). Dimeric surfactants with a short spacer unit (12-3-12 and 12-4-12) are observed to form elongated general ellipsoidal micelles with half axes a < b < c, whereas SANS data demonstrate that 12-s-12 surfactants with 6 ≤ s ≤ 12 form rather small spheroidal micelles rather than strictly spherical micelles. By means of comparing our present SANS results with previously determined growth rates using time-resolved fluorescence quenching, we are able to conclude that micelles formed by 12-6-12, 12-8-12, 12-10-12, and 12-12-12 are shaped as oblate rather than prolate spheroids. As a result, our present investigation suggests a never before reported structural behavior of Gemini surfactant micelles, according to which micelles transform from elongated ellipsoids to nonelongated oblate spheroids as the length of the spacer group is increased. The aggregation number of oblate micelles is observed to monotonously decrease with an increasing length of the surfactant spacer group, mainly as a result of a decreasing minor half axis (a), whereas the major half axis (b) is rather constant with respect to s. We argue that geometrically heterogeneous elongated micelles are formed by dimeric surfactants with a short spacer group mainly as a result of the surface charges becoming less uniformly distributed over the micelle interface. As the length of the spacer group increases, the distance between intramolecular charges become approximately equal to the average distance between charges on the micelle interface, and as a result, rather small oblate spheroidal micelles with a more uniform distribution of surface charges are formed by dimeric 12-s-12 surfactants with 6 ≤ s ≤ 12.  相似文献

The morphology and distribution of zirconium oxide and zirconium phosphates in a matrix of sulfonated poly(ether ether ketone) (SPEEK) were investigated with anomalous small‐angle X‐ray scattering (ASAXS) and electron microscopy. ASAXS revealed that ZrO2 was distributed in the SPEEK matrix in the form of nanoparticles smaller than 13 Å. A decrease in the conductivity suggested that the sulfonic groups were bound to the zirconium oxo species at the particle surface. Furthermore, two kinds of membranes containing zirconium phosphate were investigated. In one case, the phosphate was directly dispersed in the polymer solution for the casting of the membrane. In the other case, the phosphate was previously treated with n‐propyl ammonium and polybenzimidazole. From ASAXS data, the fractal dimension could be estimated. Mass‐fractal behavior was confirmed for the SPEEK membrane containing previously exfoliated zirconium phosphate, with aggregates of 6.3–165 Å. Surface‐fractal behavior was detected for membranes with untreated phosphates, with aggregates of 6.4–185 Å. The untreated phosphates caused an increase in the permeability, without changing the proton conductivity much. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Results of a study of a carbon material (carbonizate) obtained in processing of a solid cellulose-containing waste with concentrated sulfuric acid are presented. The mass fractions of water, water-soluble and-insoluble ash, and total pore volume for water were determined. Data furnished by electron microscopy and small-angle neutron scattering were used to analyze the structure of the material and identify factors affecting the cluster organization. Areas in which the carbonizate can be used are suggested.  相似文献
