Novel homologous series of supramolecular hydrogen bonded liquid crystals have been investigated. Hydrogen bonds are formed between p-n octyloxy benzoic acid and various p-n alkyloxy benzoic acids whose carbon chain length varied from pentyl to dodecyl. These complexes are characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, polarizing optical microscopy (POM), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Phase diagram is constructed from POM and DSC data. The order of the phase transitions is determined by Navard and Cox ratio (N R). Characteristic phases like nematic, smectic C, and smectic F are identified. A new smectic ordering observed in this series is investigated by constructing phase diagram obtained from two binary mixtures of the present homologs. Inter-digitation of lamellar layers is observed to be one of the reasons for the occurrence of new smectic ordering. Optical tilt angle in smectic C phase is fitted to a power law. The magnitude of exponent of the power law is found to concur with the Mean Field theory predicted value. 相似文献

In this study, complexes belonging to supramolecular hydrogen-bonded liquid crystal homologous series are synthesized and characterized. Hydrogen bond is formed between p-n-alkyloxy benzoic acids (nBAO, where n?=?5–11) and chlorobenzoic acid (ClBAO), respectively. The isolated homologues are characterized by various techniques such as polarizing optical microscopic (POM) studies, differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and Fourier transform–infrared spectroscopy. Based on the POM and DSC studies, the phase diagram has been constructed and discussed. A new smectic ordering, labeled as smectic R, has been characterized, which exhibits a ribbon-like texture. This phase is observed in the complexes pertaining to the higher homologous series. Tilt angle in this phase has been experimentally deduced and the results are fitted to the power law which concurs with the mean-field theory predicted value. Optical shuttering action in the homologue has been detected in the nematic phase and the results are also discussed. 相似文献

A facile biosynthesis route was followed to prepare zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) using Euphorbia milii (E. milii) leaf constituents. The SEM images exhibited presence of spherical ZnO NPs and the corresponding TEM images disclosed monodisperse nature of the ZnO NPs with diameter ranges between 12 and 20 nm. The Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) analysis revealed that the ZnO NPs have specific surface area of 20.46 m2/g with pore diameter of 2 nm–10 nm and pore volume of 0.908 cm3/g. The EDAX spectrum exemplified the existence of Zn and O elements and non-appearance of impurities that confirmed pristine nature of the ZnO NPs. The XRD pattern indicated crystalline peaks corresponding to hexagonal wurtzite structured ZnO with an average crystallite size of 16.11 nm. The FTIR spectrum displayed strong absorption bands at 512 and 534 cm?1 related to ZnO. The photocatalytic action of ZnO NPs exhibited noteworthy degradation of methylene blue dye under natural sunlight illumination. The maximum degradation efficiency achieved was 98.17% at an illumination period of 50 min. The reusability study proved considerable photostability of the ZnO NPs during photocatalytic experiments. These findings suggest that the E. milii leaf constituents can be utilized as suitable biological source to synthesis ZnO NPs for photocatalytic applications. 相似文献

Electrochemical studies of direct orange 8 were carried out with a bare glassy carbon electrode (GCE) and a polypyrrole-coated GCE in aqueous acetonitrile medium using voltammetric techniques. One reversible couple around 0.3?V due to the redox reaction of the phenol group, one reduction peak around ?0.4?V due to reduction of the azo group and one oxidation peak around 1.0?V due to oxidation of the amino group were observed. Chronocoulometric studies revealed dye adsorption on the GCE. A square-wave stripping method was developed for the determination of the dye at pH 13.0, and a linear calibration equation obtained. The reproducibility in the measurement of peak currents was confirmed from the RSD value 2.8% at 0.001?mg?mL?1 concentration. A comparison of the stripping voltammetric method with the UV-Vis spectrophotometric method was made. The determination limits are wider and the RSD value is lower in the stripping voltammetric method. The concentration of the dye present in dye effluent was determined using this method. 相似文献

The study is focused on examining 2,5-Substituted 4-Pyrone based compounds through quantum chemical and topological analysis techniques, evaluating the properties of these compounds, including their geometrical structure, intermolecular interactions and assess their possible applications. Additionally, the molecular stability, charge delocalization and UV-Visible data was investigated and compared with the calculated energy and oscillator strength using the TD-DFT approach. The researchers observed that charge transfer occurred within the molecule, indicated by the HOMO and LUMO energies. It was also found that the compound exhibited planarity and higher chemical reactivity. The calculated Mulliken charges and molecular electrostatic potential were used to interpret the Fukui index data that help predict reactive sites and understand the reactivity patterns of specific atoms in a compound. The study is aimed to understand the role of NCI in the molecule under investigation using electron localization functions and localized orbit locator methods. Molecular docking and ADMET studies were conducting involving a detailed MD simulation of a protein-ligand complex using the OPLS3e force field and the SPC water model. These findings could prove to be beneficial in developing new therapeutic agents with various pharmacological effects and potential toxicities. 相似文献

Red spider mite (RSM), Oligonychus coffeae (Nietner) (Acarina: Tetranychidae), has gained special attention in view of their widespread occurrence as a pest on tea [Camellia sinensis L. (O. Kuntze)]. The development of acaricide (fenpropathrin) resistance has been screened in field populations (FPs) of RSMs from different tea-growing regions of south India and compared with a laboratory-susceptible population (SP) based on toxicity bioassay, detoxifying enzyme activities, analysis of acetylcholine esterase gene (AChE, 2064 bp), and their expression pattern using semiquantitative RT-PCR. The increased resistance ratio (RR, 1.39 to 2.13) in LC50 of fenpropathrin observed in field populations of RSM provides a baseline for screening the development of resistance to fenpropathrin. This resistance developed due to hyperexpression of detoxifying enzymes, i.e., esterase (RR of 1.43 to 2.53) and glutathione S-transferase (RR of 1.11 to 1.86), and overexpression of AChE gene at 1.4 to 2.7-fold. These results necessitate molecular studies and warrant the continuous monitoring of acaricide susceptibility and resistance pattern in order to analyze the usefulness of AChE gene as target for developing alternate pest control strategies and management of pesticide resistance in tea ecosystem. 相似文献

LiNiPO4 compound with an orthorhombic structure with fine crystallite size. Presence of preferred local cation environment is understood
from Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) studies. XRD and FTIR studies show that doped yttrium ion entered in the
lattice of LiNiPO4. It has been found that the ionic conductivity of LiNiPO4 is enhanced by around two orders of magnitude by doping yttrium. Dielectric spectra show the decrease in dielectric constant

A novel collision strategy has been implemented for simulation of particulate flows using a Lagrange multiplier/fictitious domain method. In this Note, we present this new collision strategy that is based on Newton's principle of transfer of momentum.
