Two new terpyridine dimanganese oxo complexes [Mn(2)(III,IV)(mu-O)(2)(terpy)(2)(CF(3)CO(2))(2)](+) (3) and [Mn(2)(III,III)(mu-O)(terpy)(2)(CF(3)CO(2))(4)] (4) (terpy = 2,2':6,2' '-terpyridine) have been synthesized and their X-ray structures determined. In contrast to the corresponding mixed-valent aqua complex [Mn(2)(III,IV)(mu-O)(2)(terpy)(2)(H(2)O)(2)](3+) (1), the two Mn atoms in 3 are not crystallographically equivalent. The neutral binuclear monooxo manganese(III,III) complex 4 exhibits two crystallographic forms having cis and trans configurations. In the cis complex, the two CF(3)CO(2)(-) ligands on each manganese adopt a cis geometry to each other; one CF(3)CO(2)(-) is trans to the oxygen of the oxo bridge while the second is cis. In the trans complex, the two coordinated CF(3)CO(2)(-) have a trans geometry to each other and are cis to the oxo bridge. The electrochemical behavior of 3 in organic medium (CH(3)CN) shows that this complex could be oxidized into its corresponding stable manganese(IV,IV) species while its reduced form manganese(III,III) is very unstable and leads by a disproportionation process to Mn(II) and Mn(IV) complexes. Complex 4 is only stable in the solid state, and it disproportionates spontaneously in CH(3)CN solution into the mixed-valent complex 3 and the mononuclear complex [Mn(II)(terpy)(2)](2+) (2), thereby preventing the observation of its electrochemical behavior.  相似文献

Spin-labeled Cys89 of the soluble methane monooxygenase regulatory protein (MMOB) from Methylococcus capsulatus (Bath) binds within 15 +/- 4 A of the hydroxylase (MMOH) diiron center, placing the MMOB docking site in the MMOH "canyon" region on iron-coordinating helices E and F of the alpha-subunit.  相似文献

A negatively charged region on the surface of photosystem II (PSII) near Q(A) has been identified as a docking site for cationic exogenous electron acceptors. Oxygen evolution activity, which is inhibited in the presence of the herbicide 3-(3,4-dichlorophenyl)-1,1-dimethylurea (DCMU), is recovered by adding Co(III) complexes. Thus, a new electron-transfer pathway is created with Co(III) as the new terminal electron acceptor from Q(A)(-). This binding site is saturated at ~2.5 mM [Co(III)], which is consistent with the existence of low-affinity interactions with a solvent-exposed surface. This is the first example of a higher plant PSII in which the electron-transfer pathway has been redirected from the normal membrane-associated quinone electron acceptors to water-soluble electron acceptors. The proposed Co(III) binding site may enable efficient collection of electrons generated from photochemical water oxidation by PSII immobilized on an electrode surface.  相似文献

A novel class of derivatized acetylacetonate (acac) linkers for robust functionalization of TiO2 nanoparticles (NPs) under aqueous and oxidative conditions is reported. The resulting surface adsorbate anchors are particularly relevant to engineering photocatalytic and photovoltaic devices since they can be applied to attach a broad range of photosensitizers and photocatalytic complexes and are not affected by humidity. Acac is easily modified by CuI-mediated coupling reactions to provide a variety of scaffolds, including substituted terpy complexes (terpy = 2,2':6,2'-terpyridine), assembled with ligands coordinated to transition-metal ions. Since Mn-terpy complexes are known to be effective catalysts for oxidation chemistry, functionalization with Mn(II) is examined. This permits visible-light sensitization of TiO2 nanoparticles due to interfacial electron transfer, as evidenced by UV-vis spectroscopy of colloidal thin films and aqueous suspensions. The underlying ultrafast interfacial electron injection is complete on a subpicosecond time scale, as monitored by optical pump-terahertz probe transient measurements and computer simulations. Time-resolved measurements of the Mn(II) EPR signal at 6 K show that interfacial electron injection induces Mn(II) --> Mn(III) photooxidation, with a half-time for regeneration of the Mn(II) complex of ca. 23 s.  相似文献

Sodium periodate was characterized as a primary chemical oxidant for the catalytic evolution of oxygen at neutral pH using a variety of water-oxidation catalysts. The visible spectra of solutions formed from Cp*Ir(bpy)SO(4) during oxygen-evolution catalysis were measured. NMR spectroscopy suggests that the catalyst remains molecular after several turnovers with sodium periodate. Two of our [Cp*Ir(bis-NHC)][PF(6)](2) complexes, along with other literature catalysts, such as the manganese terpyridyl dimer, Hill's cobalt polyoxometallate, and Meyer's blue dimer, were also tested for activity. Sodium periodate was found to function only for water-oxidation catalysts with low overpotentials. This specificity is attributed to the relatively low oxidizing capability of sodium periodate solutions relative to solutions of other common primary oxidants. Studying oxygen-evolution catalysis by using sodium periodate as a primary oxidant may, therefore, provide preliminary evidence that a given catalyst has a low overpotential.  相似文献

Nonplatinum metals are needed to perform cost-effective water reduction electrocatalysis to enable technological implementation of a proposed hydrogen economy. We describe electrocatalytic proton reduction and H(2) production by two organometallic nickel complexes with tridentate pincer ligands. The kinetics of H(2) production from voltammetry is consistent with an overall third order rate law: the reaction is second order in acid and first order in catalyst. Hydrogen production with 90-95% Faradaic yields was confirmed by gas analysis, and UV-vis spectroscopy suggests that the ligand remains bound to the catalyst over the course of the reaction. A computational study provides mechanistic insights into the proposed catalytic cycle. Furthermore, two proposed intermediates in the proton reduction cycle were isolated in a representative system and show a catalytic response akin to the parent compound.  相似文献

A dimer-of-dimers model compound for the oxygen-evolving complex of photosystem II, [[(H(2)O)(terpy)Mn(IV)(micro-O)(2)Mn(IV)(terpy)](2)(micro-O)](ClO(4))(6) (terpy = 2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine), has been prepared and characterized by X-ray crystallography and ESI-MS. Low pH was found to promote the disproportionation of [Mn(III/IV)(2)O(2)(terpy)(2)(OH(2))(2)](3+) to Mn(2+) and a Mn(IV/IV)(2)O(2)(terpy)(2) species; the latter complex slowly dimerizes to form the title complex. Protonation of a micro-oxo bridge is proposed to initiate the disproportionation, based on analogy with the [Mn(III/)(IV)(2)O(2)(bpy)(4)](3+) system.  相似文献

An unprecedented atom connectivity, MnIV(mu-O)MnIV(mu-O)2MnIV(mu-O)MnIV, is found in the complex [MnIV4O4(EtO-terpy)4(OH)2(OH2)2](ClO4)(6).8H2O (EtO-terpy=4'-ethoxyl-2,2':6',2' '-terpyridine), which has been characterized by X-ray crystallography, X-ray powder diffraction, EPR spectroscopy, and magnetic studies. This complex is the first example of a compound where a MnIV ion is coordinated by all three types of water-derived ligands: oxo, hydroxo, and aqua. Bond distances and angles for this complex are consistent with a MnIV4 oxidation state assignment. The di-mu-oxo- and mono-mu-oxo-bridged Mn-Mn distances are 2.80 and 3.51 A, respectively. The variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility data for this complex, in the range of 10-300 K, are consistent with an S=0 ground state and were fit using the spin Hamiltonian HHDvV=-J1S2S1-J2S1S1A-J1S1AS2A (S1=S1A=S2=S2A=3/2) with J1=-432 cm-1 and J2=-164 cm-1 (where J1 and J2 are exchange constants through the mono-mu-oxo and the di-mu-oxo bridges, respectively). The first excited spin state of this tetramer is a spin triplet state at 279 cm-1 above the diamagnetic ground state. The next spin states are the S=1 and S=2 levels at about 700 and 820 cm-1 above the S=0 ground state, respectively. These large energy gaps are consistent with the absence of an EPR signal for this complex, even at high temperature.  相似文献

The reaction of (μ‐Cl)2Ni2(NHC)2 (NHC=1,3‐bis(2,6‐diisopropylphenyl)‐1,3‐dihydro‐2H‐imidazol‐2‐ylidene (IPr) or 1,3‐bis(2,6‐diisopropylphenyl)imidazolidin‐2‐ylidene (SIPr)) with either one equivalent of sodium cyclopentadienyl (NaCp) or lithium indenyl (LiInd) results in the formation of diamagnetic NHC supported NiI dimers of the form (μ‐Cp)(μ‐Cl)Ni2(NHC)2 (NHC=IPr ( 1 a ) or SIPr ( 1 b ); Cp=C5H5) or (μ‐Ind)(μ‐Cl)Ni2(NHC)2 (NHC=IPr ( 2 a ) or SIPr ( 2 b ); Ind=C7H9), which contain bridging Cp and indenyl ligands. The corresponding reaction between two equivalents of NaCp or LiInd and (μ‐Cl)2Ni2(NHC)2 (NHC=IPr or SIPr) generates unusual 17 valence electron NiI monomers of the form (η5‐Cp)Ni(NHC) (NHC=IPr ( 3 a ) or SIPr ( 3 b )) or (η5‐Ind)Ni(NHC) (NHC=IPr ( 4 a ) or SIPr ( 4 b )), which have nonlinear geometries. A combination of DFT calculations and NBO analysis suggests that the NiI monomers are more strongly stabilized by the Cp ligand than by the indenyl ligand, which is consistent with experimental results. These calculations also show that the monomers have a lone unpaired‐single‐electron in their valence shell, which is the reason for the nonlinear structures. At room temperature the Cp bridged dimer (μ‐Cp)(μ‐Cl)Ni2(NHC)2 undergoes homolytic cleavage of the Ni?Ni bond and is in equilibrium with (η5‐Cp)Ni(NHC) and (μ‐Cl)2Ni2(NHC)2. There is no evidence that this equilibrium occurs for (μ‐Ind)(μ‐Cl)Ni2(NHC)2. DFT calculations suggest that a thermally accessible triplet state facilitates the homolytic dissociation of the Cp bridged dimers, whereas for bridging indenyl species this excited triplet state is significantly higher in energy. In stoichiometric reactions, the NiI monomers (η5‐Cp)Ni(NHC) or (η5‐Ind)Ni(NHC) undergo both oxidative and reductive processes with mild reagents. Furthermore, they are rare examples of active NiI precatalysts for the Suzuki–Miyaura reaction. Complexes 1 a , 2 b , 3 a , 4 a and 4 b have been characterized by X‐ray crystallography.  相似文献
