The development of new electrocatalysts with the aim of enhancing the rate of electrochemical reactions has been a long-term goal of electrochemists. In part, this is due to the great importance of electrocatalysts in energy generation and environmental concerns. In this review, various methods of the preparation of nanostructured electrocatalysts and their applications after attachment to the electrode surface are described. Diazonium chemistry has been extensively used for the preparation and attachment of nanostructured electrocatalysts and this review thus describes the recent developments and applications of this chemistry in electrocatalysis. The preparation of nanostructured electrocatalysts including grafted molecular films and metal nanoparticles physically adsorbed on electrode surfaces and those attached to the surface by molecular links using diazonium chemistry is reviewed. Two methods for the attachment of nanoparticles by simple physical adsorption and by electrochemical deposition on molecular films are described and the electrochemical response of nanostructured electrocatalysts for some of the most common electrochemical reactions is discussed.  相似文献

The electrooxidation of dopamine (DA), uric acid (UA) and their mixture on a gold electrode modified by a self-assembled monolayer of 2-(3,4-dihydroxyphenyl)-1,3-dithialone has been studied by cyclic voltammetry (CV), chronoamperometry and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). CV was used to investigate the redox properties of the modified electrode at various scan rates and the apparent charge transfer rate constant (k(s)), and transfer coefficient (α) were calculated. The mediated oxidation of DA at the modified electrode under the optimum condition (pH = 7.0) in CV occurs at a potential about 220 mV less positive than that of the unmodified gold electrode. The values of electron transfer coefficients (α), catalytic rate constant (k) and diffusion coefficient (D) were calculated for DA, using electrochemical methods. DPV exhibited a linear dynamic range over the concentration range of 0.2-250.0 μM and a detection limit (3σ) of 0.07 μM for DA. The modified electrode was used for simultaneous determination of DA and UA by DPV. The results showed that the electrode is highly efficient for the catalytic electrooxidation of DA and UA, leading to a remarkable peak resolution (~350 mV) for two compounds. The electrode was used for the determination of DA in an injection sample.  相似文献

Some manufacturing processes of polymeric materials, such as injection molding or film blowing, cause the final product to be highly anisotropic. In this study, the mechanical behavior of drawn polyethylene (PE) tapes is investigated via micromechanical modeling. An elasto‐viscoplastic micromechanical model, developed within the framework of the so‐called composite inclusion model, is presented to capture the anisotropic behavior of oriented semicrystalline PE. Two different phases, namely amorphous and crystalline (both described by elasto‐viscoplastic constitutive models), are considered at the microstructural level. The initial oriented crystallographic structure of the drawn tapes is taken into account. It was previously shown by Sedighiamiri et al. (Comp. Mater. Sci. 2014, 82, 415) that by only considering the oriented crystallographic structure, it is not possible to capture the macroscopic anisotropic behavior of drawn tapes. The main contribution of this study is the development of an anisotropic model for the amorphous phase within the micromechanical framework. An Eindhoven glassy polymer (EGP)‐based model including different sources of anisotropy, namely anisotropic elasticity, internal stress in the elastic network and anisotropic viscoplasticity, is developed for the amorphous phase and incorporated into the micromechanical model. Comparisons against experimental results reveal remarkable improvements of the model predictions (compared to micromechanical model predictions including isotropic amorphous domains) and thus the significance of the amorphous phase anisotropy on the overall behavior of drawn PE tapes. © 2019 The Authors. The covalent attachment of various organic molecules on conductive supports including indium tin oxide (ITO) using diazonium chemistry has been known for many years. A commonly used method to achieve this is the electrochemical reduction of diazonium compounds leading to radicals, followed by binding of the radicals to the support. In the present report, an alternative method using ultrasound at different frequencies (20, 582, 863, and 1142 kHz) to induce the surface grafting of nitrobenzene diazonium onto an ITO surface is described. It is shown that the grafting on ITO is more efficient in the lower ultrasonic frequency range that is ascribed to changes in the balance between the physical and chemical effects of cavitation with frequency. Both the physical and chemical effects of cavitation play important roles at all frequencies, but at high ultrasound frequencies, the physical effects are relatively small. At 20 kHz, the physical component, including mass transport, is larger than at higher frequencies, and mechanisms based on these observations have been proposed. Ultrasonic grafting has an advantage over electrografting in that it may provide more control over surface coverage, thus it is suggested that the ultrasonic method is used where the surface concentration of the organic layer must be controlled.  相似文献

The electrochemical properties of Au electrodes grafted with 4-nitrophenyl and 4-decylphenyl groups have been studied. The electrografting of gold electrode surface with aryl groups was carried out by electroreduction of the corresponding diazonium salts in acetonitrile. The nitrophenyl film growth on gold was examined by atomic force microscopy, electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. These measurements showed that a multilayer film of nitrophenyl groups was formed. Cyclic voltammetry was used to study the blocking properties of aryl-modified gold electrodes towards the Fe(CN)63−/4− redox system. The reduction of oxygen was strongly suppressed on these electrodes as evidenced by the rotating disc electrode results.  相似文献

A new method for the preparation of metal nanoparticles in organic media is proposed. This is based on the formation of metal-carbon bonds after reduction of the corresponding diazonium derivative of the capping ligand. The particles are very stable due to the strong metal-ligand covalent bond, and the proposed method appears to be an alternative for the preparation of monolayer-protected metal nanoparticles when the formation of metal-sulfur or metal-nitrogen bonds needs to be avoided.  相似文献
