Regiocontrolled dieckmann condensation of 3,4-Bis(methoxycarbonylmethyl) levoglucosenone derivative

The Dieckmann condensation of 3,4-bis(methoxycarbonylmethyl) levoglucosenone derivative afforded two regioisomeric 9,11-dioxatricyclo[6.2.1.0^2,6]undecane derivatives at a ratio of 5: 3. The products can be used in the synthesis of iridoids.     

Synthesis of α-bromoisolevoglucosenone and its cyclopenta annulation

4,4-Dimethyl-3-nitro-10,11-dioxatricyclo[6.2.1.0^2,6]undec-5-en-7-one possessing a bicyclic iridoid skeleton was synthesized in two steps from isolevoglucosenone which was obtained in turn from levoglucosenone through 4-benzyloxy-2-tosyloxy derivative.

Reaction of levoglucosenone with Dane’s diene

Cycloaddition of levoglucosenone to 7-methoxy-4-vinyl-1,2-dihydronaphthalene has been studied under different conditions, including heating under atmospheric pressure, in a sealed ampule, and under high pressure, as well as under microwave irradiation and in the presence of various catalysts. The chiral Diels–Alder adduct thus obtained can be used in the synthesis of estrone and its analogs.     

Reaction of nitroalkanes with levoglucosenone and its α-bromo and α-iodo derivatives. Cyclopentaannulation of α-halocyclenones

Michael reactions of levoglucosenone and its α-bromo and α-iodo derivatives with α,ω-dinitroalkanes were studied under conditions of chemical and electrochemical generation of base. Procedures were developed for stereospecific fusion of a cyclopentane ring to α-bromo- and α-iodolevoglucosenones, 2-iodocyclopent-2-en-1-one, and 2-iodocyclohex-2-en-1-one by the action of 2,2-dimethyl-1,3-dinitropropane.

Coherent X-ray diffraction imaging of nanoengineered polymeric capsules

For the first time, nanoengineered polymeric capsules and their architecture have been studied with coherent X-ray diffraction imaging technique. The use of coherent X-ray diffraction imaging technique allowed us to analyze the samples immersed in a liquid. We report about the significant difference between polymeric capsule architectures under dry and liquid conditions.
