The synthesis is reported of copolymers of N,N‐dimethylacrylamide (DMA) and methacrylates containing 2,2′‐dihydroperfluorodecanoyl (RF) groups separated from the methacrylate by long polyethylene glycol (PEG) tether groups (between 1000 and 14,000 Da). At concentrations of between 1 and 8 wt % the copolymers with macromonomer contents of 1 mol % or less give gels in organic solvents such as dioxane, THF, or methanol, as well as in water. Given the low molecular weights, this indicates very efficient association of very low numbers of RF groups. Association and gel formation is enormously enhanced in the presence of longer PEG tethers. This is consistent with smaller poly(N,N,‐dimethylacrylamide) (PDMA) intermolecular excluded volume effects that are mediated by the longer PEG tethers and possibly by the incompatibility of PEG and PDMA that may lead to the formation of PEG microdomains. This increases the local concentrations of the RF groups in the PEO domains that are not diluted by the PDMA chains, as would be the case in the absence of PEG tethers. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. We report here an in‐depth analysis of the reaction mechanisms involved in the formation of polymer dimers formed by the coupling of polystyryllithium (PSLi) with dichloromethane (DCM), dibromomethane (DBM), and diiodomethane (DIM) in tetrahydrofuran at ?78 °C. The DBM‐mediated reactions give a high degree of coupling but generate 1,2‐diphenyl linkages in addition to the expected 1,3‐diphenyl linkages and small amounts of β‐substituted styrenic end groups that are detectable by fluorescence measurements. This is consistent with the formation of bromobenzyl end groups by lithium–bromine exchange and PSLi‐mediated elimination. The formation of α‐substituted styrenic end groups by conventional displacement and elimination is also possible. Although reactions of PSLi with DCM show no coupling at all, DIM is a much better coupling agent than DBM, significantly suppressing side reactions. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In filaments of the moss Ceratodon purpureus , phototropism is controlled by the photoreceptor phytochrome. Thirty-three aphototropic mutants with a proposed defect in phytochrome-chromophore biosynthesis were isolated and analyzed. The phototropic response of those mutants was rescued with the precursor of the phytochrome chromophore, biliverdin. Phytochrome spectral activity was measured in 19 arbitrarily chosen mutants. All contained low but still measurable quantities of photoactive phytochrome; the highest level was around 15% of the wild-type. The level of total phytochrome (apophytochrome and holophytochrome) as assayed by immunoblotting was indistinguishable from wild-type. The content of photoactive phytochrome in Ceratodon is light-regulated. Phytochrome of wild-type kept for 24 h in red light was reduced to 50% as compared to dark controls but was unaffected by blue. The red-light-induced decrease was partially reversible by far-red light, indicating that phytochrome itself is the photoreceptor for this response. This regulation was further analyzed with the mutant ptr114 , which contains 15% photoactive phytochrome as compared to the wild-type. In this mutant, continuous red light given for 6 days decreased the level of spectrally active phytochrome down to 25% of dark controls, whereas the amount of phytochrome found on immunoblots was hardly reduced. This indicates that the loss of phytochrome affects only the holoprotein and implies that Ceratodon phytochrome is specifically degraded as a far-red-absorbing phytochrome. 相似文献

Properties such as shear modulus, gelation time, structure of supramolecular hydrogels are strongly dependent on self-assembly, gelation triggering mechanism and processes used to form the gel. In our work we extend reported rheology analysis methodologies to pH-triggered supramolecular gels to understand structural insight using a model system based on N−N’ Dibenzoyl-L-Cystine pH-triggered hydrogelator and Glucono-δ-Lactone as the trigger. We observed that Avrami growth model when applied to time-sweep rheological data of gels formed at lower trigger concentrations provide estimates of fractal dimension which agree well compared with visualization of the microstructure as seen via Confocal Laser Scanning Microscopy, for a range of gelator concentrations. 相似文献

Analysis of the γ-ray angular distributions measured at 16 36S(p, γ)37Cl resonances yields the spins and/or parities of 21 bound states of 37Cl in addition to the resonance spins. Among the latter are four resonances. For several other bound states the possible spins have been restricted. Multipolarity mixing ratios have been deduced from the same data. Lifetimes (or lifetime limits) of 29 bound states have been deduced from DSA measurements.This extensive experimental information allows a comparison with the results of a shell-model calculation for both the even- and odd-parity states of 37Cl. In this calculation either zero, one or two particles are promoted from the 2s or 1d to the 1f or 2p subshells. Up to an excitation energy of about 5 MeV a one-to-one correspondence is found between experimental and calculated levels. 相似文献
