New Polyampholyte Polymers Based on Polypropylene Glycol Fumarate with Acrylic Acid and Dimethylaminoethyl Methacrylate

The possibility of preparing new polyampholyte polymers based on polypropylene glycol fumarate–acrylic acid–dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate terpolymers was demonstrated. The main relationships of radical terpolymerization in dioxane, including binary systems participating in the terpolymerization, were studied. The block lengths, transition probabilities, and Harwood block structure parameter were calculated for the terpolymers from the copolymerization constants for the binary systems. These parameters reflect the arrangement of the macroradicals in the chain. The morphology of the polymer surface was studied by scanning electron microscopy, and the surface pore size was estimated. The influence of organic solvents and pH on the sample swelling was studied, and the isoelectric point (pH 6.00) of the terpolymer was determined.     

Enthalpy of swelling of crosslinked copolymers of acrylic acid β-vinyloxyethylamide in water and ethanol

The thermodynamics of swelling of copolymers of acrylic acid β-vinyloxyethylamide with acrylamide and N-vinylpyrrolidone of various compositions in water and ethanol is investigated. It is established that the swelling of the copolymers in water is characterized by high negative enthalpy values and that the swelling in ethanol is an endothermic process. It is found experimentally that the hydrogels obtained experience contraction at elevated temperatures.

Effect of external factors on the swelling of hydrogels based on poly(ethylene glycol) maleate with some vinyl monomers

Effect of the pH of the medium, temperature, and nature of solvents and inorganic salt on the behavior of hydrogels based on copolymers of poly(ethylene glycol) maleate with acrylic and methacrylic acids and acrylamide was studied. It was shown experimentally that the susceptibility of the hydrogels to changes in the factors mentioned above, depending on the nature of a comonomer.
