Functional Monomers and Polymers. CXXXVI. Effect of Metal Ions on the Interaction of Synthetic Nucleic Acid Analogs

The effect of metal ions on the conformation of thymine-containing poly-D-lysine was studied by CD spectra in aqueous solution. Of the metal ions studied, only copper(II) ion affected the conformation of nucleic acid analogs. Copper(II) ion also affected the specifically interacting system made up of thymine-containing poly-D-lysine and polyadenylic acid.     

Sequence-specific cleavage of RNA by designed ribozymes

Abstract

Ribozymes that distinguish a single base change in RNA were synthesized and used to specifically cleave c-Ha-ras messenger RNA. Using phosphorothioate containing oligonucleotide substrates, we have shown that Mg²⁺ binds to the pro-R oxygen of the phosphate and that the RNA cleavage reaction occurs via an in-line mechanism. Oligoribonucleotides containing a modified nucleoside are described.     

Thermal behavior and dismantlability of adhesives containing various inorganic salts

As a fundamental study on the development of dismantlable adhesives containing chemically reactive materials, the thermal behavior and dismantlability of an epoxy adhesive containing one of the twenty-seven inorganic salts (chlorides, perchlorates, and nitrates) were observed. In the thermal behavior measured by the differential scanning calorimetry, epoxy adhesives with inorganic salts containing iron, copper, zinc, and aluminum cations released heats of reaction at lower temperatures than the adhesive alone or the adhesives with other inorganic salts. Since such inorganic salts were considered to be effective candidates as fillers in dismantlable adhesives, the adhesion strengths of their mixtures with the adhesive were observed after heat aging at 270 °C for 30 min. The results showed that both chloride and perchlorate salts specifically decreased the adhesion strength after heating. On the other hand, the effect of nitrate salts on the decrease in adhesion strength was low in comparison with the chloride and perchlorate salts.     

Development of novel pyrrole synthesis for the preparation of intermediates of bioactive pyrrole alkaloids

We have developed a novel method for the synthesis of 3,4-diarylpyrrole-2,5-dicarboxylates via α-diazo esters, which are easily obtained from phenylalanine derivatives. Utilizing this method, intermediates of bioactive compounds having the structure of 3,4-diarylpyrrole-2,5-dicarboxylates were synthesized.     

Investigation of thermal hazard during the hydrosilylation of 1,6-divinyl(perfluorohexane) with trichlorosilane

In this study, we examined the reaction hazard during the hydrosilylation reaction between trichlorosilane (TCS) and 1,6-divinyl(perfluorohexane) (FDV) in the presence of a butanol solution of chloroplatinic acid (Pt-Cat) as the catalyst. Assuming the three industrial risks of excessive addition of Pt-Cat, contamination by iron rust and mixing with cooling water, we observed the temperature and pressure change of TCS/FDV with an excessive amount of Pt-Cat, TCS/FDV/Pt-Cat with Fe₂O₃ and TCS/FDV/Pt-Cat with distilled water, using an accelerating rate calorimeter (ARC). The temperature and pressure greatly increased, especially in the sample with Fe₂O₃. For instance, in TCS/FDV/Pt-Cat with 1.5 wt.% Fe₂O₃, the heat release rate exceeded 624 K · min^?1 and the pressure rose above 25 MPa during the exothermic reaction.     

Capacitance-conductance detector for high-pressure liquid chromatography. Application to alkaloids and fatty acids

Summary A new type of detector for high-pressure liquid chromatography has been designed. This detector is equipped with a RC resonance circuit, and is similar to the capacitance detector previously reported. It is operated as a capacitance detector with nonpolar eluents; while with polar solvents, it behaves as a conductance detector. Electrolytes such as salts, acids and bases are sensitively detected. The detector was successfully used for the detection of fatty acids and alkaloids.

Zusammenfassung Ein neuartiger Detektor für die Hochdruck-Flüssigchromatographie wurde entwickelt. Dieser ist mit einem Resonanzstromkreis ausgestattet und ähnelt dem kürzlich beschriebenen Kapazitanz-Detektor. Als solcher funktioniert er mit nichtpolaren Eluenten, während er sich mit polaren Lösungsmitteln wie ein Leitfähigkeitsdetektor verhält. Salze, Säuren und Basen werden empfindlich nachgewiesen. Das Gerät wurde zum Nachweis von Fettsäuren und Alkaloiden verwendet.

A novel method for synthesizing arylhydrazones, the precursor for Fischer indole synthesis, using aryllithium reagents and α-diazo esters that are easily obtained from α-amino acid esters, is described.
