Spin diffusion between inequivalent quadrupolar nuclei by double-quantum flip-flops

A new mechanism for spin diffusion between quadrupolar nuclei whose NMR lines do not overlap is proposed. For spin-1 nuclei, double-quantum flip-flop transitions allow the diffusion of Zeeman order, but not quadrupolar order, without requiring an extraneous energy reservoir. The flip-flop rate is sensitive to the relative signs of the quadrupolar splittings.     

A Comparison of Two Variational Methods

A discussion is given of the relation between the maximum functionaltheorem and Schwinger's variational principle, and it is shownthat the bound given by Schwinger's principle is better thanor the same as that given by the maximum functional theorem.     

Deuterium double-quantum NMR with magic angle spinning

The combination of double-quantum NMR with magic angle spinning is demonstrated for deuterium in solids Under magic angle spinning the single-quantum resonance lines are extremely sensitive to spinner angle adjustment and stability while the double-quantum lines are not. This provides an additional approach to high resolution.     

Further Gurtin-type Variational Principles for Linear Initial Value Problems

Following the variational principles for linear initial valueproblems associated with the wave and heat conduction equationsdiscussed by Gurtin and Leitmann and using time convolutionsit is shown that general variational principles exist for theseproblems with sources on the boundaries and within the regionunder consideration.
