Chemical Constituents of the Essential Oil of <Emphasis Type="Italic">Nepeta oxyodonta</Emphasis>

Water-distilled essential oil from the aerial parts of Nepeta oxyodonta Boiss. was analyzed by GC/MS for the first time. Fifty-eight components were identified. The major components were (E)-caryophyllene (12.6%), spathulenol (8.5%), β-bourbonene (8.1%), germacrene-D (7.4%), α-cadinol (7.3%), germacrene-D-4-ol (6.8%), T-cadinol (5.6%), and caryophyllene oxide (5.3%).__________Published in Khimiya Prirodnykh Soedinenii, No. 2, pp. 141–142, March–April, 2005.     

Ru-catalyzed synthesis of substituted phthalides through C–H bond activation and functionalization

Synthesis of substituted phthalides through a ruthenium-catalyzed reaction of phthalic anhydrides with acrylates is described. The reaction proceeds via CH bond activation and leads to the formation of vinylated phthalides through a successive double vinylation accompanied by decarboxylation and annulation reactions.     

Laguerre Wavelet Approach for a Two-Dimensional Time–Space Fractional Schrödinger Equation

This article is devoted to the determination of numerical solutions for the two-dimensional time–spacefractional Schrödinger equation. To do this, the unknown parameters are obtained using the Laguerre wavelet approach. We discretize the problem by using this technique. Then, we solve the discretized nonlinear problem by means of a collocation method. The method was proven to give very accurate results. The given numerical examples support this claim.     

Gamow Temperature in Tsallis and Kaniadakis Statistics

Relying on the quantum tunnelling concept and Maxwell–Boltzmann–Gibbs statistics, Gamow shows that the star-burning process happens at temperatures comparable to a critical value, called the Gamow temperature (T) and less than the prediction of the classical framework. In order to highlight the role of the equipartition theorem in the Gamow argument, a thermal length scale is defined, and then the effects of non-extensivity on the Gamow temperature have been investigated by focusing on the Tsallis and Kaniadakis statistics. The results attest that while the Gamow temperature decreases in the framework of Kaniadakis statistics, it can be bigger or smaller than T when Tsallis statistics are employed.     

Grignard-Addition an Pyridin-N-oxid

Addition of phenyl-, alkyl-, alkenyl- and alkinyl-Grignard reagents to pyridine-N-oxide in THF leads to 5-substituted (2Z, 4E)-pentadien-aldoximes 6 having (E) (syn)-configuration of the C, N-double bond. The unsaturated oximes are shown to arise through an electrocyclic ring opening reaction from the primary Grignard adducts 5 . These can be trapped by protonation at low temperature.     

Volatile constituents of flowers and leaves of Anthemis hyalina

The chemical composition of the essential oils of the flowers and leaves of Anthemis hyalina were analyzed by GC and GC-MS for the first time. The oils were found to contain seventy-two components. cis-Chrysanthenyl acetate (14.9% and 17.8%), camphor (11.6% and 1.7%), terpinen-4-ol (8.3% and 1.2%), germacrene-D (5.1% and 2.1%), β-caryophyllene (4.1% and 5.4%), myrcene (3.6% and 16.9%), bicyclogermacrene (3.5% and 0.9%), α-pinene (2.3% and 4.1%), cis-β-ocimene (2.1% and 4.3%) and isospathulenol (0.4% and 4.3%) were found to be the major constituents of the oils of flowers and leaves respectively. Heat-resistant and soluble fluorinated poly(amide imide)s based on non-coplanar ortho-linked diimide-dicarboxylic acid

A series of novel fluorinated heat-resistant poly(amide imide)s (PAIS) based on non-coplanar diimide-diacid monomer (DIDA) were synthesized and characterized. The poly(amide imide)s were obtained in high yields and possessed inherent viscosities in the range of 0.47-0.91 dL g⁻¹. All of the polymers were amorphous in nature, showed outstanding solubility and could be readily soluble in common organic solvents such as N,N-dimethylacetamide, N-methyl-2-pyrrolidinoned, dimethyl sulfoxide, N,N-dimethylformamide, pyridine and tetrahydrofuran. Glass transition temperatures were in the range of 221-263 °C, as determined by differential scanning calorimetry. Degradation temperatures for 10% weight loss occurred all above 520 °C and char yields was more than 50% at 700 °C in nitrogen atmosphere. Moreover, these PAIs possessed low refractive indexes (n = 1.58-1.59), birefringence (Δn = 0.008-0.013), and dielectric constants (? ≈ 2.5) due to the trifluoromethyl pendent groups and ortho-catenated aromatic rings that interrupt chain packing and increase free volume.     

Isocyanide-based multicomponent reactions: synthesis of alkyl-2-(1-(alkylcarbamoyl)-2,2-dicyanoethyl)benzoate and isochromeno[3,4-b]pyrrole derivatives

A novel four-component reaction between 2-formylbenzoic acids, malononitrile, isocyanides, and alcohols has been developed for a highly efficient preparation of alkyl-2-(1-(alkylcarbamoyl)-2,2-dicyanoethyl)benzoate derivatives. This high atom economy reaction led to the construction of two carbon-carbon bonds, one amide, and one ester group in a single synthetic step. Furthermore, a three-component reaction between 2-formylbenzoic acids, malononitrile, and isocyanides in dichloromethane for the preparation of isochromeno[3,4-b]pyrroles has been reported.     

Spectrophotometric Study of Complexation of Tri-Aza Dibenzosulfide and Dibenzosulfoxide Macrocyclic Compounds with Heavy Metal Ions

The complexation reactions between 7,10,13-triaza-1-thia-4,16-dioxa-20,24-dimethyl-2,3;17,18-dibenzo-cyclooctadecane-6,14-dione ( TTD ) and 7,10,13-triaza-1-sulfoxo-4,16-dioxa-20,24-dimethyl-2,3;17,18-dibenzo-cyclooctadecane-6,14-dione ( TSD ) macrocycles with Ag⁺, Cd²⁺, Cu²⁺, Pb²⁺, Sr²⁺, Tl⁺, and Zn²⁺ ions have been studied in ethanol and methanol solutions at 25°C. The complexes formed between macrocycles ( TTD ) and ( TSD ) with these metals cations had a stiochiometry of 1:1 and 1:2, respectively. The stability constants of the resulting complexes were determined and found to decrease in the order Cu²⁺ > Zn²⁺ > Ag⁺ > Tl⁺ > Cd²⁺ > Pb²⁺ > Sr²⁺ with macrocycle ( TTD ) and Tl⁺ > Zn²⁺ > Cd²⁺ > Pb²⁺ > Cu²⁺ > Ag⁺ > Sr²⁺ with macrocycle ( TSD ).
