Nonlinear and nonequilibrium electrophoresis of spherical particles of radius a is shown to be possible when the solid surface allows field or current penetration. At low particle Peclet numbers, transient capacitative charging occurs until the surface polarization completely screens the external field. For a DC applied field [see text], the resulting electrokinetic velocity reaches Dukhin's maximum value of [formula: see text], where [see text] and mu are the liquid permittivity and viscosity. At high Peclet numbers, electroosmotic convection of the electroneutral bulk stops the transient charging before complete field-line exclusion. For an ion-selective and conducting spherical granule, the polarization is then determined by the steady-state Ohmic current driven by the penetrated external field. Calculations have been performed on the integral shapes of the K
lines, which are long-wave satellites of the K
1 lines, for Cl, Ti, and Fe, where allowance has been made for interference between states in the 2p–1 and 3p–2p configurations. The calculations show that these satellites represent short-wave branches of the K lines strengthened by the 3p-1s transition with simultaneous M electron ejection. The strong interference between the amplitudes of these processes in the final state means that it is in principle quite impossible to speak of the intensities of the K

The stability of a liquid electrolyte placed in a tangential electric field oscillating harmonically at high frequency is
considered assuming that the liquid is viscous and Newtonian. It is shown that, if the Peclet number calculated from the thickness
of the Debye layer is small, the problem can be solved separately for the electrodynamic part of the problem in the Debye
layer and for the hydrodynamic part of the problem in the jet. The linear stability of the trivial solution of the problem
is investigated. A dispersion relation is derived and used to study the effect of the amplitude and frequency of electric
field oscillations on the stability of the jet. It is shown that the presence of the external oscillating field has a stabilizing
