Application of hydrophilic ionic liquids as co-solvents in chloroperoxidase catalyzed oxidations

The effect of hydrophilic ionic liquids (ILs) on the activity of chloroperoxidase (CPO) was checked through kinetic and stereochemical studies. The possibility to employ this enzyme in synthesis has been demonstrated investigating the chemo- and stereoselectivity of oxidation of phenyl methylsulfide in several citrate buffer-IL mixtures.     

Fiberings with Fiber RP（κ）

Let κ be non-negative integer. The unoriented bordism classes, which can be represented as [RP（ξ^κ）] where ξ^κ is a k-plane bundle, form an ideal of the unoriented bordism ring MO.. A group of generators of this ideal expressed by a base of MO. and a necessary and sufficient condition for a bordism class to belong to this ideal are given.

The preparation of 2-iodoamides from glucals and their further transformations into oxazolines

2-Deoxy-2-iodo-glycosylamides have been prepared from a variety of protected d-glucals by their reaction with N-iodosuccinimide and amides. Benzyl protected 2-iodoamides, when treated with sodium hydride and 15-crown-5, gave stable C1 N-linked 2-glycooxazolines as the major products. Silyl protected 2-iodoamides afforded the C1 O-linked 2-glycooxazolines; presumably by the rearrangement of unstable N-acylaziridine intermediates.     

Magnetic poly(N‐isopropylacrylamide) microspheres by dispersion and inverse emulsion polymerization

The aim of this study was to develop novel thermally responsive polymer microspheres with magnetic properties. Dispersion and inverse emulsion copolymerization of N‐isopropylacrylamide (NIPAAm) and N,N′‐methylenebisacrylamide (MBAAm) was investigated in the presence of γ‐Fe₂O₃ nanoparticles. The resulting microspheres were characterized in terms of morphology, size, polydispersity, iron content, and temperature‐dependent swelling using optical microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, QELS, and AAS. The effects of several variables, such as the concentration of γ‐Fe₂O₃, MBAAm crosslinking agent, Span 80 surfactant, 2,2′‐azobis(2‐methyloctanenitrile) (AMON) initiator, and polymerization temperature on the properties of the microspheres were studied. Swelling and thermoresponsive behavior of the microspheres containing γ‐Fe₂O₃ nanoparticles were also investigated. The microspheres contained about 8 wt % of iron. The presence of magnetic nanoparticles and their concentration changes did not have any significant effect on the temperature sensitivity of the composites. The particles gradually shrink into an increasingly collapsed state when the temperature is raised to 40 °C since the increase in temperature weakens the hydration and PNIPAAm chains gradually become more hydrophobic, which leads to the collapse of the particles. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Photodiffraction in InGaAs/InGaAsP multiple quantum wells enclosed in a microcavity

We report new results on the diffraction properties of photoinduced gratings in InGaAs/InGaAsP MQW structures. The original feature of this device is that the QWs are enclosed in an asymmetric Fabry–Perot microcavity in order to increase the diffraction efficiency. We observe oscillations in the diffraction efficiency due to resonant effects in the microcavity. The experimental spectra are compared with theory. Diffraction efficiency at 1.55 μm attains a maximum value of 2.7% at a write beam fluence of 260 μ J cm⁻², and then decreases at higher fluences. We explain this phenomenon by an absorption saturation at high excitation.
