The impact of hydration on the transport properties of microcrystalline Sm(0.15)Ce(0.85)O(1.925) has been examined. Dense, polycrystalline samples were obtained by conventional ceramic processing and the grain boundary regions were found, by high resolution transmission electron microscopy, to be free of impurity phases. Impedance spectroscopy measurements were performed over the temperature range 250 to 650 °C under dry, H(2)O-saturated, and D(2)O-saturated synthetic air; and over the temperature range 575 to 650 °C under H(2)-H(2)O atmospheres. Under oxidizing conditions humidification by either H(2)O or D(2)O caused a substantial increase in the grain boundary resistivity, while leaving the bulk (or grain interior) properties unchanged. This unusual behavior, which was found to be both reversible and reproducible, is interpreted in terms of the space-charge model, which adequately explains all the features of the measured data. It is found that the space-charge potential increases by 5-7 mV under humidification, in turn, exacerbating oxygen vacancy depletion in the space-charge regions and leading to the observed reduction in grain boundary conductivity. It is proposed that the heightened space-charge potential reflects a change in the relative energetics of vacancy creation in the bulk and at the grain boundary interfaces as a result of water uptake into the grain boundary core. Negligible bulk water uptake is detected under both oxidizing and reducing conditions. 相似文献
The electrical memory characteristics of the n‐channel organic field‐effect transistors (OFETs) employing diverse polyimide (PI) electrets are reported. The synthesized PIs comprise identical electron donor and three different building blocks with gradually increasing electron‐accepting ability. The distinct charge‐transfer capabilities of these PIs result in varied type of memory behaviors from the write‐one‐read‐many (WORM) to flash type. Finally, a prominent flexible WORM‐type transistor memory is demonstrated and shows not only promising write‐many‐read‐many (WMRM) multilevel data storage but also excellent mechanical and retention stability.
T(2) contrast is gaining importance in high field strength MRI. We report a strategy for developing a T(2) contrast agent from paramagnetic metal ions synthesized within an engineered protein cage. The manganese-ferritin nanocomposite showed high T(2) relaxivity indicating its potential as an ultrasensitive T(2) contrast agent. 相似文献
This paper describes the use of arrays of horizontally-oriented reservoirs to deliver liquids through microchannels at a constant flow rate over extended periods of time (hours to days). The horizontal orientation maintains a constant hydraulic pressure drop across microfluidic channels even as the volumes of liquids within the reservoirs change over time. For a given channel-reservoir system, the magnitude of the flow velocity depends linearly on the height difference between reservoirs. The simple structure and operation mechanism make this pumping system versatile. A one-inlet-one-outlet system was used to continuously deliver media for perfusion cell culture, and an array of inlet reservoirs coupled to an outlet reservoir via microchannels was used to drive flows of multiple laminar streams. The parallel pumping scheme conveniently generated various smooth and step concentration gradients, and allowed evaluation of the effect of colchicine on myoblasts. Since the reservoir arrays are configured to be compatible with commercialized multichannel pipettors designed for 96 well plate handling, this simple pumping scheme is envisioned to be broadly useful for medium to high throughput microfluidic perfusion cell culture assays, cell migration assays, multiple laminar flow drug tests, and any other applications needing multiple microfluidic streams. 相似文献
