Synthesis of Palladium and Nickel Complexes with Octaphenyltetraazaporphyrins

Palladium(II) and nickel(II) complexes with octaphenyltetraazaporphyrin, octakis(4-bromophenyl)tetraazaporphyrin, and octakis(4-nitrophenyl)tetraazaporphyrin were obtained by reactions of octaphenyltetraazaporphyrin, Mg octaphenyltetraazaporphyrin, octakis(4-bromophenyl)tetraazaporphyrin, and octakis(4-nitrophenyl)tetraazaporphyrin with palladium(II) and nickel(II) chlorides in DMF.     

Synthesis and properties of ms- and β-substituted Pt(II) and Pt(IV) tetraphenylporphyrinates

The interaction of 5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin, 5,10,15,20-tetra-(4-chlorophenyl)porphyrin, 2-bromo-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin, and 2,3,12,13-tetrabromo-5,10,15,20-tetraphenylporphyrin with platinum(II) chloride in boiling phenol has been studied. The corresponding platinum(II) porphyrinates have been synthesized; their subsequent treatment with bromine in chloroform resulted in platinum(IV) porphyrinates. The Pt(II) and Pt(IV)(Br)₂ porphyrinates have been identified by elemental analysis, electron absorption, IR, and ¹H NMR spectroscopy.     

Metal exchange reaction of magnesium octaphenyltetraazaporphyrin with copper,cobalt, and zinc chlorides in DMSO and DMF

Metal exchange reaction of (octaphenyltetraazaporphyrinato)magnesium(II) with copper, cobalt, and zinc chlorides in dimethyl sulfoxide and dimethylformamide has been studied by spectrophotometry. Kinetic and thermodynamic parameters of the process have been determined, and a probable reaction mechanism has been proposed. Zinc(II), copper(II), cobalt(II), and cobalt(III) complexes of octaphenyltetraazaporphyrin have been isolated and characterized.

Complications in the Castagnoli-Cushman reaction: An unusual course of reaction between cyclic anhydrides and sterically hindered indolenines

Attempted reaction of indolenines (which represent rather sterically hindered cyclic imines) with a series of dicarboxylic acid anhydrides yielded no expected product, the Castagnoli-Cushman lactam. Instead, products presumably formed via N-acyliminium species trapping by a carboxylate anion. Among them, hydrolytically labile 2:2 adducts of an indolenine and a cyclic anhydride, containing a 16-membered cyclic core, are particularly intriguing. This result contradicts the recently reported successful Castagnoli-Cushman reaction of indolenines with homophthalic anhydride suggesting a mechanistic switch in the course of the reaction.
