Gel permeation chromatographic characterization of sodium hyaluronate and its fractions prepared by ultrasonic degradation

Summary High-molecular-weight sodium hyaluronate isolated from rooster combs was degraded by ultrasonication. The molecular weight of hyaluronate and its polydispersity was determined by gel-permeation chromatography. During 75-min treatment the molecular weight value decreased from 1.39×10⁶ Da to 2.25×10⁵ Da while the polydispersity of the molecular weight increased from 1.29 to 2.36. The reciprocal value of the square of the hyaluronate's molecular weight was linearly proportional to the time of ultrasonication.     

Size exclusion chromatographic characterization of sodium hyaluronate fractions prepared by high energetic sonication

Summary A high molecular weight sodium hyaluronate isolated from rooster combs was degraded by ultrasonication. High-performance size exclusion chromatography allowed rapid and accurate determination of molecular weight parameters (M_z, M_w, M_n) and distributions. The time dependence of hyaluronan ultrasonication to the molecular characteristics of the polymer was investigated. A non-random nature of the degradation process was demonstrated and the reciprocal M_n value was found to be linearly proportional to the time of ultrasonication.     

Hexaphenylbenzene as a rigid template for the straightforward syntheses of "star-shaped" glycodendrimers

Original glycodendrimers emanating from propargylated hexaphenylbenzene cores and containing up to 54 peripheral sugar ligands have been synthesized by Cu(I)-catalyzed [1,3]-dipolar cycloadditions using both convergent and divergent approaches.     

High temperature NMR in vanadium: Electron paramagnetism and atomic diffusion effects

We present preliminary results on Knight shift T₁ and T₂ measurements between 300 and 1700 K. We have observed the motional narrowing due to the self diffusion as well as a strong quadrupolar contribution to T₁ due to the diffusion of interstitial gases. K varies from 0.58 to 0.63%. This temperature dependence is shown to be mainly due to an intrinsic temperature effect. The high temperature Korringa like behaviour of T₁ with T₁T = 1.05 sec. K is explained in terms of the temperature dependence of the d spin contribution.     

Expeditive synthesis of glycodendrimer scaffolds based on versatile TRIS and mannoside derivatives

A new family of glycodendrimer scaffolds containing 12 and 18 peripheral alpha-d-mannopyranosidic units has been synthesized by Cu(I)-catalyzed [1,3]-dipolar cycloadditions using sulfurated dendritic scaffolds bearing alkyne functionalities and novel TRIS derivatives.     

Glycomimetics and glycodendrimers as high affinity microbial anti-adhesins

Adhesion to epithelial surface is often the first step in bacterial and viral infection. In this process, the microbes use a variety of proteins for interaction with host carbohydrates presented as glycoconjugates on cell surfaces. Crystal structures of adhesin and lectin binding sites in complexes with oligosaccharide open the route for design and synthesis of glycomimetics, glycodendrimers, and glycopolymers that are able to block infection at an early stage.
