Application of minimal interpolation splines to solve the Cauchy problem

Methods for solving the Cauchy problem are suggested. The use nonpolynomial splines, which ensure the required accuracy for a rather wide class of functions. Computational results are presented.     

Donor-acceptor properties, catalytic activity, and negative charge exoemission from the alumina surface modified with lithium cations

Donor-acceptor properties of alumina modified with lithium cations were studied by ESR of paramagnetic complexes of adsorbed anthraquinone. The results were compared with the data on negative ion emission (exoemission) accompanying the decomposition of isopropyl alcohol in the adsorption layer. The data on the activity measured by the pulse microcatalytic technique in isopropyl alcohol decomposition are discussed. Small additives of lithium were found to promote catalytic activity of the samples. The role of acid and basic sites in isopropyl alcohol decomposition was discussed. Cyanoacetylation of 6-aminouracils. Synthesis of 7-aminopyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4,5-triones

6-Aminouracils and N-substituted derivatives are cyanoacetylated to give 5-cyanoacetyl-6-aminouracils. In the presence of bases these are converted to pyrido[2,3-d]pyrimidine-2,4,5-triones in high yields.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 7, pp. 971–975, July, 1990.     

Plasma-Catalytic Decomposition of Phenols in Atmospheric Pressure Dielectric Barrier Discharge

This study investigated the processes for the destruction of phenol and its derivatives (resorcin and pyrocatechol) in aqueous solutions under the action of an oxygen dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) at atmospheric pressure in the presence or absence of catalysts in the plasma zone. It was shown that the DBD had a high decomposition efficiency for phenol and its derivatives (up to 99%). Phenol was the most stable and pyrocatechol was the least. In a plasma-catalytic hybrid process, the effective rate constants for phenol, resorcin and pyrocatechol decomposition were 11, 4 and 2.5 times higher, respectively, than those for the DBD treatment without catalysts. The process also resulted in a 1.4, 1.6 and 1.2 times higher rate of carboxylic acid formation for phenol, resorcin and pyrocatechol, respectively. The fractional conversion into the respective carboxylic acids reached 56% for phenol and 68% for resorcin and pyrocatechol.     

On the mechanism of proton transfer in imidazole

The force fields, in-plane vibrations, and relative intensities of Raman spectra have been calculated and analyzed for the N₁H and N₃H tautomers of imidazole, imidazolium cation, and their model structures. The results obtained for the isolated state of imidazole correspond to the intramolecular mechanism of proton transfer.

Deterministic regularization method for the problem of background line identification in experimental data analysis

Tikhonov’s regularization method is applied to develop an efficient algorithm and the corresponding programs for identifying a smooth background line. Analysis of hydrogen bonds by the IR spectra of thymine and N<Subscript>1</Subscript>,N<Subscript>3</Subscript>-deuterothymine

Calculations of the frequencies and absolute intensities of the IR bands of plane vibrations of thymine and N₁,N₃-deuterothymine in various phase states have been carried out. The effects of sample preparation methods on the variability of the electrospray ionization response for model drug compounds

A post-column infusion system was developed in order to analyze suppression of electrospray ionization (ESI) tandem mass spectrometry response in the presence of endogenous plasma interferences. By enabling direct detection of these interfering components, this experimental system was used to analyze the ability of several common extraction procedures to remove endogenous plasma components that cause changes in the ESI response of model drug substances. Methyl-t-butyl ether (MTBE) liquid-liquid, Oasis and Empore solid-phase, and acetonitrile (ACN) protein precipitation sample preparation methods were tested using the post-column infusion system. In all cases, ACN protein precipitation samples showed the greatest amount of ESI response suppression while liquid-liquid extracts demonstrated the least. In addition, the three test compounds, phenacetin, caffeine, and a representative Merck compound, demonstrated that ESI response suppression is compound dependent. Suppression was greatest with caffeine, the most polar analyte, and the smallest for the Merck compound, the least polar analyte. Copyright 1999 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
