Reactions of organic halides with organometallic compounds and terminal acetylenes catalyzed by palladium complexes

The results of the investigation of the cross-coupling of organometallic compounds and terminal acetylenes with organic halides catalyzed by transition metal complexes are generalized and analyzed. The influence of different factors on the rate and selectivity of catalytic cross-coupling is discussed. A detailed mechanism of the cross-coupling of Grignard reagents with organic halides is suggested. The cross-coupling reaction involving organotin compounds proceeds under very mild conditions in the presence of a ligand-free Pd catalyst. Examples of using catalytic cross-coupling of organic halides with organomagnesium, organozinc, and organotin compounds are presented.Translated fromIzvestiya Akademii Nauk. 5-(Naphth-1-yl)- and 5-[(1,1′-biphenyl)-4-yl]isoxazole-3-carbaldehyde oximes: Synthesis,complexes with palladium,and application in catalysis

1-(Naphth-1-yl)- and 1-[(1,1′-biphenyl)-4-yl-3,4,4-trichloro-3-buten-1-ones were synthesized by acylation of naphthalene and biphenyl with 3,4,4-trichloro-3-butenoyl chloride. Further reaction with hydroxylamine led to 5-(naphth-1-yl)- and 5-[(1,1′-biphenyl)-4-yl]isoxazole-3-carbaldehyde oximes. The latter form complexes with palladium, which possess high catalytic activity in the Suzuki reaction in aqueous and aqueous-alcoholic media.     

Reactions of organometallic compounds catalyzed by transition-metal complexes: XI. The palladium-catalyzed reaction of acyl chlorides with Et6Sn2 as a route to symmetrical ketones and α-diketones

The reaction of aroyl chlorides (ArCOCl) with Et₆Sn₂ gives symmetrical ketones (Ar₂CO) or α-diketones ((ArCO)₂), depending on the nature of the palladium catalyst and the reaction conditions. The synthesis of α-diketones from AlkCOCl and HetCOCl has been performed for Alk = n-C₇H₁₅ and Het = 2-C₄H₃O (furyl). The palladium-catalyzed carbonylation of aryl iodides in the presence of Et₆Sn₂ may serve as another route to symmetrical α-diketones. Such a possibility has been demonstrated for the preparation of 4,4′-dimethoxybenzil from 4-iodoanisole, carbon monoxide, and Et₆Sn₂.
