In this article, we study the adsorption of protein ovalbumin (OVA) at corn oil (CO), soybean oil (SBO), olive oil (OO), and water interfaces along with the emulsification of these oils in water. The dynamic interfacial tension (IFT) measurements show a reduction in IFT in the order SBO–water?~?CO–water?>?OO–water, with OVA adsorption being dominated by the free diffusion of OVA at the interfaces. CO–water, OO–water, and SBO–water emulsions cream with time. The cream phase consists of jammed closed-packed oil droplets due to depletion-induced inter-droplet attractions with higher G′ and G″ (~700?Pa) for emulsions with 1?wt% OVA.  相似文献

A tri-armed-pyrene-linked molecular receptor, 5 has been designed, synthesised and evaluated for ionic recognition. It has been observed that the synthesised molecular receptor can recognise mercury and cyanide ions through a change in colour, UV–Vis and fluorescence intensity. The binding stoichiometry of the receptor and these ionic species has been found to be 1:1 through Job’s plots, Benesi–Hildebrand plots and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC).  相似文献

Surfaces of simple fcc metals such as Cu with nonzero and unequal Miller indices are intrinsically chiral. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations are a useful way to study the enantiospecific adsorption of small chiral molecules on these chiral metal surfaces. We report DFT calculations of seven chiral molecules on several structurally distinct chiral Cu surfaces. These surfaces include two surfaces with (111)-oriented terraces and one with (100)-oriented terraces. Calculations are also described on a surface that was modified to mimic the surface structures that typically appear on real metal surfaces following thermally driven fluctuations in step edges. Our results provide initial information on how variation in the surface structure of intrinsically chiral metal surfaces can affect the enantiospecific adsorption of small molecules on these surfaces.  相似文献

The reactivity of the cobalt(III) complexes dichlorido[tris(2‐aminoethyl)amine]cobalt(III) chloride, [CoCl2(tren)]Cl, and dichlorido(triethylenetetramine)cobalt(III) chloride, [CoCl2(trien)]Cl, towards different amino acids (l ‐proline, l ‐asparagine, l ‐histidine and l ‐aspartic acid) was explored in detail. This study presents the crystal structures of three amino acidate cobalt(III) complexes, namely, (l ‐prolinato‐κ2N,O)[tris(2‐aminoethyl)amine‐κ4N,N′,N′′,N′′′]cobalt(III) diiodide monohydrate, [Co(C5H8NO2)(C6H18N4)]I2·H2O, I , (l ‐asparaginato‐κ2N,O)[tris(2‐aminoethyl)amine‐κ4N,N′,N′′,N′′′]cobalt(III) chloride perchlorate, [Co(C4H7N2O3)(C6H18N4)](Cl)(ClO4), II , and (l ‐prolinato‐κ2N,O)(triethylenetetramine‐κ4N,N′,N′′,N′′′)cobalt(III) chloride perchlorate, [Co(C4H7N2O3)(C6H18N4)](Cl)(ClO4), V . The syntheses of the complexes were followed by characterization using UV–Vis spectroscopy of the reaction mixtures and the initial rates of reaction were obtained by calculating the slopes of absorbance versus time plots. The initial rates suggest a stronger reactivity and hence greater affinity of the cobalt(III) complexes towards basic amino acids. The biocompatibility of the complexes was also assessed by evaluating the cytotoxicity of the complexes on cultured normal human fibroblast cells (WS1) in vitro. The compounds were found to be nontoxic after 24 h of incubation at concentrations up to 25 mM.  相似文献

In this work, we report the effect of concentration of bovine serum albumin (BSA) on the micellization of a cationic surfactant, dodecyldimethylethylammonium bromide (DDAB). Several samples covering a wide range of concentrations of protein and surfactant have been investigated. The interactions between the moieties are investigated by measuring fluorescence quenching of BSA molecules. The aggregation number of DDAB micelles is found to be small in the presence of BSA. The formation of DDAB-BSA complex is confirmed by FTIR. Absorbance spectroscopy indicates that at higher concentration, the conformational stability of BSA in DDAB is higher. The viscosity data for protein-surfactant systems confirm conformational changes in protein chains induced by the surfactant. The cmc values for DDAB increase with increasing concentration of BSA. At higher temperatures the micellization-complexation becomes enthalpy-dominated.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Integrated photonics enables the miniaturization of bulk optical components for biosensing applications such as optical coherence tomography (OCT) and is therefore promising for future lab-on-chip solutions. Here, we report the design and simulation of a compact low loss broadband beam splitter with arbitrary coupling ratios on silicon nitride platform for OCT systems. The reported coupler uses asymmetric waveguide-based phase control section for 10:90, 20:80, 30:70, 40:60, and 50:50 splitting ratios and is broadband over 100 nm with the central wavelength of 850 nm. The couplers are realized for transverse electric, transverse magnetic, and fully vectorial modes, and maximum excess loss for all mode types is reported to be less than 0.19 dB. The design tolerance of waveguide width and thickness of the designed coupler is further calculated and is within fabrication limit.  相似文献

A pyrene functionalized oxacalix[4]arene architecture (DPOC) was utilized as a fluorescence probe for selective recognition of cyanide ions. The receptor DPOC shows excellent selectivity towards cyanide ion with a red shift of 108 nm in absorption band along with a significant change in colour from light yellow to pink. The fluorescence titration experiments further confirm the lower limit of detection as 1.7µM with no significant influences of competing anions. 1 H-NMR titration experiments support the deprotonation phenomena, as the -NH proton disappears upon successive addition of cyanide ions. The DFT calculation also indicates a certain increment of -NH bond length upon interaction with cyanide ions. The spectral properties as well as colour of DPOC-CN? system may be reversed upon the addition of Ag+/ Cu2+ ions up to 5 consecutive cycles. Moreover, DPOC coated “test strips” were prepared for visual detection of cyanide ions.
