The volatile oils of the leaves and the stem bark of Acacia mearnsii de Wild obtained by hydro-distillation were analysed by gas chromatography–mass spectrometry. A total of 20, 38, 29 and 38 components accounted for 93.8%, 92.1%, 78.5% and 90.9% of the total oils of the fresh, dry leaves and fresh, dry stem bark, respectively. The major components of the oil were octadecyl alcohol (25.5%) and phytol (10.5%); cis-verbenol (29.5%); phytol (10.1%) and phytol (23.4%) for the fresh leaves, dried leaves, fresh stem, dry stem bark, respectively. Oral administration of essential oils at a dose of 2% showed significant (p < 0.05) anti-inflammatory properties in the albumin-induced test model in rats. Oils from the fresh leaves and dry stems inhibited inflammation beyond 4 h post treatment. The potent anti-inflammatory activity of essential oils of A. mearnsii hereby confirmed its traditional use in treating various inflammatory diseases.  相似文献

Epoxy resin composites reinforced with hollow glass microspheres, microlight microspheres, 3D parabeam glass, and E-Glass individually were subjected to accelerated thermal degradation conditions. X-ray microcomputed tomography (XμCT) was used to evaluate density changes, reinforcement filler damage, homogeneity, cracks and microcracks in the bulk of the different epoxy resin composites. XμCT 3D images, 2D reconstructed images and voids calculations revealed microspheres damage, filler distributions and showed cracks in all composites with different shapes and volume in response to the thermal degradation conditions. In addition, expansion of air bubbles/voids was observed and recorded in the microsphere and microlight epoxy composite samples. In a complementary way, optical coherence tomography (OCT) was used as a novel optical characterisation technique to study structural changes of the surface and near-surface regions of the composites, uncovering signs of surface shrinkage caused by the thermal treatment. Thus, combining XμCT and OCT proved useful in examining epoxy resin composites' structure, filler-resin interface and surface characteristics.  相似文献

We present the theoretical formalism and an experimental demonstration of a technique for two-dimensional quantitative imaging of two-component samples using polychromatic X-rays. The technique takes into account the full spectral information of the incident polychromatic beam to quantify the total X-ray attenuation, due to each component presented in the sample, as functions of both energy and thickness. As a result, this technique is able to effectively ameliorate the effects of beam hardening. Here, we demonstrate the application of this technique to a two-component sample. The technique makes it possible for laboratory-based polychromatic X-ray sources to be used for critical quantitative purposes.  相似文献

Absorption tomography has been a unique technique for 3D imaging in many scientific research and applications. However, the use of polychromatic x-ray sources for quantitative tomography has been limited due to the well-known beam hardening effect. In this article, we will describe the theoretical details of a new technique for quantitative tomography using polychromatic x-rays. The technique incorporates the full spectral information of the incident beam into the tomographic reconstruction process. Consequently, beam-hardening effects are eliminated and the result is quantitative. We will also demonstrate the technique experimentally using a single-component specimen. This technique promises great opportunities for laboratory-based x-ray sources to be used in quantitative applications.  相似文献

The continual rise in sulfadoxine (SDX) resistance affects the therapeutic efficacy of sulfadoxine-pyrimethamine; therefore, careful monitoring will help guide its prolonged usage. Mutations in Plasmodium falciparum dihydropteroate synthase (Pfdhps) are being surveilled, based on their link with SDX resistance. However, there is a lack of continuous analyses and data on the potential effect of molecular markers on the Pfdhps structure and function. This study explored single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in Pfdhps that were isolated in Africa and other countries, highlighting the regional distribution and its link with structure. In total, 6336 genomic sequences from 13 countries were subjected to SNPs, haplotypes, and structure-based analyses. The SNP analysis revealed that the key SDX resistance marker, A437G, was nearing fixation in all countries, peaking in Malawi. The mutation A613S was rare except in isolates from the Democratic Republic of Congo and Malawi. Molecular docking revealed a general loss of interactions when comparing mutant proteins to the wild-type protein. During MD simulations, SDX was released from the active site in mutants A581G and A613S before the end of run-time, whereas an unstable binding of SDX to mutant A613S and haplotype A437A/A581G/A613S was observed. Conformational changes in mutant A581G and the haplotypes A581G/A613S, A437G/A581G, and A437G/A581G/A613S were seen. The radius of gyration revealed an unfolding behavior for the A613S, K540E/A581G, and A437G/A581G systems. Overall, tracking such mutations by the continuous analysis of Pfdhps SNPs is encouraged. SNPs on the Pfdhps structure may cause protein–drug function loss, which could affect the applicability of SDX in preventing malaria in pregnant women and children.  相似文献
