Simultaneous DSC-TG and DTA-TG were used to investigate the calatytic effect of the metal on the thermal decomposition of a cellulose matrix containing small copper particles. The techniques were also used to demonstrate the effect of the metal particles on the subsequent activation of the carbon matrix, a process which develops the pore structure necessary to expose the metal particles to the gas phase. Temperature programmed desorption was used to study the initial mass loss found on activation. To quantify the catalytic effect of the copper particles on the activation process an estimate was made of the activation energy of the catalysed and uncatalysed reactions. The work gives valuable information on the processes involved in the preparation of a new range of metal-carbon catalysts. In celebration of the 60th birthday of Dr. Andrew K. Galwey  相似文献

The crystal structure of bis(betaine)-selenic acid has been determined by X-ray diffraction as orthorhombic, space group Pbca, with a = 11.591(2), b = 22.930(5), c = 12.045(2) Å and Z = 8. The crystal comprises hydrogen selenate ions, HSeO4, and two distinct betaine molecules, which are held together into a complex by short hydrogen bonds. One of the betaine molecules is present as the zwitterion form (CH3)3N+---CH2---COO and the second occurs as the protonated form (CH3)3N+---CH2---COOH. Powder FTIR and Raman spectra were measured. An assignment of the observed bands to vibrations of the hydrogen bonds and internal vibrations of the hydrogen selenate ion and the betaine molecules is proposed.  相似文献

Topical application of the isoflavone equol immediately following solar-simulated UV (SSUV) radiation exposure has previously been demonstrated to have significant photoprotective effects. Equol reduced both the inflammatory edema and the systemic suppression of the contact hypersensitivity reaction in hairless mice. Furthermore, daily topical equol application immediately following irradiation during a 10-week chronic SSUV exposure regime also reduced photocarcinogenesis severity in the mouse. This study examines the potential for topical equol to prevent photoaging in response to chronic SSUV irradiation for up to 30 weeks. We did not find consistent expression of the characteristic markers of photoaging until 30 weeks, although moderate epidermal hyperplasia and a transient increase in dermal mast cell numbers were evident after 1 week. Daily application of 10 muM equol lotion significantly reduced these early changes. However after 30 weeks of SSUV exposure, photoaging was well developed, as shown histologically by markedly increased epidermal hyperplasia, increased dermal mast cell number, pronounced focal elastotic deposits, degraded dermal collagen and deposition of glycosaminoglycans in the lower dermis. Topical equol treatment protected significantly from each of these impairments, as demonstrated histologically and quantitatively. Additionally, equol was found to have strong antioxidant action against acute UVA (320-400 nm)-induced lipid peroxidation of mouse skin, this property accounting for its antiphotoaging mechanism. The evidence for equol's antiphotoaging activity, taken together with its anti-inflammatory, immunoprotective and anticarcinogenic efficacy against SSUV irradiation in the mouse, suggests that equol could be developed as a helpful topical photoprotective agent for daily use by humans.  相似文献

Four diterpenes and a nor-diterpenoid, all of which possess unusual carbocyclic skeletons, were isolated from the hexane solubles of the West Indian gorgonian Pseudopterogorgia elisabethae. The structures and relative configurations of novel metabolites elisabethin D (2), elisabethin D acetate (3), 3-epi-elisabanolide (5), elisapterosin A (6), and elisapterosin B (7) were elucidated by interpretation of overall spectral data, which included 2D NMR correlation methods, IR, UV, and accurate mass measurements (HREI-MS and HRFAB-MS), chemical reactions, and X-ray diffraction analyses. The tetracyclic carbon skeleton of the elisapterosins is undescribed and constitutes a new class of C(20) rearranged diterpenes. Elisapterosin B displays strong in vitro anti-tuberculosis activity.  相似文献

Analysis of very small particles can present problems. This paper describes the application of temperature programmed solid insertion probe mass spectrometry (TP-SIP-MS), scanning electron microscopy and SEM X-ray microanalysis to the identification of foreign particles present in an industrial product. The relative advantages and limitations of the techniques are discussed. It is shown that TP-SIP-MS is a powerful tool for such work and complements the use of more conventional microanalytical methods.  相似文献

The wavelength dependence for immediate pigment darkening (IPD) was investigated by exposing the midback skin of volunteers to a series of incremental fluences of narrow waveband radiation isolated by band-pass filters in the310–400 nm region. The threshold IPD fluence for each waveband was determined by visual assessment of the skin responses immediately after each exposure. The action spectrum, constructed from the mean threshold fluences, was broad and extended from 320 nm to 400 nm with a peak at around 340 nm. No IPD could be evoked at 310 nm, even after erythemogenic fluences. The spectrum was similar in each of the three skin types investigated (III, IV, V). The broad nature of the action spectrum within the UVA region suggests that IPD may serve as an alternative endpoint for measuring photoprotection against these wavelengths.  相似文献

Semiquantitative analysis with accuracy of ±30 to 50% is a valuable tool for rapid screening of samples prior to quantitative determination of trace metals. In this study semiquantitative analysis software available with commercial inductively coupled plasma–mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) instrumentation is applied for rapid multielemental analysis, and the accuracy and precision of this semiquantitative analysis approach is evaluated with biological certified reference materials. Samples were prepared by high-pressure, high-temperature nitric acid vapor-phase digestion. For most elements the measured semiquantitative results are in the range of the certified values. With appropriate analyte solution dilution, the measured concentrations of the major elements (e.g., Ca) also agree with certified values. The accuracy is within ±10% for 28 element determinations that include 16 individual elements (Ag, As, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Mo, Ni, Pb, Rb, Sb, Sr, Tl, and Zn) and ±20% for 54 element determinations that include three more elements (Mg, V, and U) in eight certified reference materials including water. The method precision is 11 ± 11% (relative standard deviation,n= 65).  相似文献
