Synthesis of 4-Formyl-3-cyclopentene-1,1,2-tricarbonitriles

β,β,γ,γ-Tetracyanoalkanones react with acrolein at a high rate to afford the corresponding 2-substituted 4-formyl-3-cyclopentene-1,1,2-tricarbonitriles in high yields. The reaction occurs under mild conditions and is quite applicable for modification of natural and biologically active compounds possessing an R′CHC(O)CR₃ fragment to obtain their derivatives containing three cyano groups.     

Luminescent properties of three structures built from 3‐cyano‐4‐dicyanomethylene‐5‐oxo‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐pyrrol‐2‐olate and cadmium

Yellow–orange tetraaquabis(3‐cyano‐4‐dicyanomethylene‐5‐oxo‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐pyrrol‐2‐olato‐κN³)cadmium(II) dihydrate, [Cd(C₈HN₄O₂)₂(H₂O)₄]·2H₂O, (I), and yellow tetraaquabis(3‐cyano‐4‐dicyanomethylene‐5‐oxo‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐pyrrol‐2‐olato‐κN³)cadmium(II) 1,4‐dioxane solvate, [Cd(C₈HN₄O₂)₂(H₂O)₄]·C₄H₈O₂, (II), contain centrosymmetric mononuclear Cd²⁺ coordination complex molecules in different conformations. Dark‐red poly[[decaaquabis(μ₂‐3‐cyano‐4‐dicyanomethylene‐5‐oxo‐4,5‐dihydro‐1H‐pyrrol‐2‐olato‐κ²N:N′)bis(μ₂‐3‐cyano‐4‐dicyanomethylene‐1H‐pyrrole‐2,5‐diolato‐κ²N:N′)tricadmium] hemihydrate], [Cd₃(C₈HN₄O₂)₂(C₈N₄O₂)₂(H₂O)₁₀]·0.5H₂O, (III), has a polymeric two‐dimensional structure, the building block of which includes two cadmium cations (one of them located on an inversion centre), and both singly and doubly charged anions. The cathodoluminescence spectra of the crystals are different and cover the wavelength range from UV to red, with emission peaks at 377 and 620 nm for (III), and at 583 and 580 nm for (I) and (II), respectively.

One-pot synthesis of 2-(dicyanomethylene)-1,2-dihydropyridine derivatives

The synthesis of 2-(dicyanomethylene)-1,2-dihydropyridine derivatives from the reactions of arylmethylidene derivatives of malononitrile dimers with 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds is described.     

Reaction of 2,2,3,3-tetracyanocyclopropyl ketones with water

3-Benzoylcyclopropane-1,1,2,2-tetracarbonitrile reacted with water to give 2-benzoyl-1,3-dicyanocyclopropane-1-carboxamide as a result of hydrolysis of the cyano group in the trans position with respect to the carbonyl group and subsequent decarboxylation. The reaction of 3-benzoyl-3-methylcyclopropane-1,1,2,2-tetracarbonitrile with water involved heterocyclization with participation of the carbonyl group and cis-cyano groups, leading to 8-methyl-3,6-dioxo-1-phenyl-2,7-diazatricyclo[3.2.1.0^4,8]octane-4,5-dicarbonitrile. Hydrolysis of 3-alkylcyclopropane-1,1,2,2-tetracarbonitrile followed both reaction paths to produce mixtures of products, including 7-alkyl-4-amino-7-hydroxy-1,9-dioxo-3,8-diazatricyclo[4.3.0.0^1,5]non-3-ene-5-carbonitriles. In all cases, the three-membered ring was retained.     

Three-component synthesis and optical properties of triarylpyridines containing a buta-1,3-diene-1,1,3-tricarbonitrile fragment

The synthesis of triarylpyridine derivatives containing a buta-1,3-diene-1,1,3-tricarbonitrile fragment via the base-promoted reactions of aromatic aldehydes, 2-phenylacetophenone and a malononitrile dimer in the presence of an oxidant is described. The influence of aryl substituents in the 4-position on the optical properties is also reported.     

Synthesis and optical properties of new coumarin derivatives based on 2-(2-chlorobenzylidene)malononitrile

A procedure has been developed for the conversion of the CS gas [2-(2-chlorobenzylidene)-malononitrile] to new 3-cyanocoumarin derivatives, 4-(2-chlorophenyl)-2-oxo-2H-chromene-3-carbonitriles. Study of the optical properties of the synthesized compounds has revealed strong fluorescence in the violet and blue regions.     

Synthesis of fused derivatives of 1,8-naphthyridine

Reactions of aromatic aldehyde, 2-aminoprop-1-ene-1,1,3-tricarbonitrile and cyclic enhydrazinoketones led to the formation of N-substituted 5-aryl-2,4-diamino-6-oxo-5,6,7,8,9,10-hexahydrobenzo[b][1,8]- naphthyridine-3-carbonitriles
