On variable stepsize Runge-Kutta approximations of a Cauchy problem for the evolution equation

We consider a Cauchy problem for the sectorial evolution equation with generally variable operator in a Banach space. Variable stepsize discretizations of this problem by means of a strongly A(φ)-stable Runge-Kutta method are studied. The stability and error estimates of the discrete solutions are derived for wider families of nonuniform grids than quasiuniform ones (in particular, if the operator in question is constant or Lipschitz-continuous, for arbitrary grids).     

Maximum Norm Resolvent Estimates for Elliptic Finite Element Operators

We study a finite element approximation A _h, based on simplicial Lagrange elements, of a second order elliptic operator A under homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions in two and three dimensions, where h is thought of as a meshsize. The main result of the paper is a new resolvent estimate for the operator A _h in the L -norm. This estimate is uniform with respect to h for the case with at least quadratic elements. In the case with linear elements, the estimate contains on the right a factor proportional to (log log ), where = 1 or = in two or three dimensions, respectively.This revised version was published online in October 2005 with corrections to the Cover Date.     

Platinum- and palladium-containing carbon nanomaterials as catalysts for hydrogenation and hydrogenating amination

The catalytic activity of the carbon nanomaterials containing platinum and palladium in the model reactions of liquid-phase hydrogenation of nitrobenzene and hydrogenating amination was investigated. The catalytic systems based on nanodiamonds are more efficient than platinum-containing fullerene black, multi-walled nanotubes, and carbon nanofibers.
