Preparation of Silica-Bonded S-Sulfonic Acid: A Recyclable Catalyst for the Synthesis of Bis-Indolylmethanes

Silica bonded S-sulfonic acid (SBSSA) was prepared by the reaction of 3-mercaptopropylsilica (MPS) and chlorosulfonic acid in chloroform. Silica-bonded S-sulfonic acid, as a reusable solid acid catalyst, was used for the condensation reactions of indole with carbonyl compounds at ambient temperature. Tetra-(indolyl)methanes were also obtained by the condensation reaction of indole with dialdehyde compounds. Silica bonded S-sulfonic acid was recovered and reused.

NH2SO3H and H6P2W18O62 · 18H2O-Catalyzed,Three-Component,One-Pot Synthesis of Benzo[c]acridine Derivatives

We report here two simple methods for the synthesis of benzo[c]acridine derivatives from three-component, one-pot condensation of 1-naphthylamine, dimedone, and a variety of substituted aldehydes in the presence of a catalytic amount of NH₂SO₃H or H₆P₂W₁₈O₆₂ · 18H₂O under solvent-free conditions at 120 °C or in refluxing ethanol.     

1,4-Diaza-bicyclo[2,2,2]octane as a Novel and Efficient Catalyst for the Synthesis of 3,4,6-Trisubstituted 2-Pyridone Derivatives

3,4,6‐Trisubstituted 2‐pyridone derivatives have been synthesized in good to excellent yields through a condensation reaction of various 1,3‐diketones with amides in the presence of 1,4‐Diaza‐bicyclo[2,2,2]octane (DABCO) at reflux temperature.     

KHSO_4 as an Efficient Catalytic System for the Regiospecific Nitra-tion of Phenols with Metal Nitrates

Highly regiospecific mononitration of phenol and substituted phenols was accomplished employing a metal nitrate and a catalytic amount of KHSO₄ in acetonitrile. An exclusive ortho‐selectivity was observed with excellent yields. A variety of metal nitrates were used to obtain o‐nitrophenols exclusively in good to excellent yields. The use of KHSO₄ is key for the selectivity observed.     

A Novel and Efficient Catalyst to One‐Pot Synthesis of 2‐Amino‐4H‐Chromenes by Methanesulfonic Acid

Methanesulfonic acid efficiently catalyzes the one‐pot, three component reaction of an aromatic aldehyde, malonitrile and α or β‐naphthol to yield 2‐amino‐4H‐chromenes in very good yields.     

MICROWAVE-ASSISTED N-ALKYLATION OF POTASSIUM PHTHALIMIDE AND POTASSIUM SUCCINIMIDE ONTO SILICA GEL IN DRY MEDIA

Synthesis of N-alkyl phthalimides and N-alkyl succinimides through alkylation of potassium phthalimide and potassium succinimide in dry media catalyzed by phase-transfer catalyst under microwave irradiation will be reported. The reactions were with fairly high yield.     

Synthesis of 2‐Aryl‐1‐arylmethyl‐1H‐1,3‐benzimidazole Derivatives Using Silica‐bonded Propyl‐S‐sulfonic Acid as Recyclable Solid Acid Catalyst

A highly selective synthesis of 2‐aryl‐1‐arylmethyl‐1H‐1,3‐benzimidazoles from the reaction of o‐phenylenediamine and aromatic aldehydes in the presence of silica‐bonded propyl‐S‐sulfonic acid (SBSSA) at 80°C in water in good to excellent yields was developed.     

Heteropolyacid as a New,Green and Recyclable Catalyst for the Synthesis of 2‐Aryl Benzoxazole under Solvent‐Free Conditions

A simple, convenient and general method has been developed for the synthesis of 2‐arylbenzoxazole via condensation of o‐aminophenols and benzoyl chloride derivatives under solvent‐free conditions in the presence of a catalytic amount of heteropolyacids in good yields.
