We have made direct pump–probe measurements of spin lifetimes in long wavelength narrow-gap semiconductors at wavelengths between 4 and 10 μm and from 4 to 300 K. In particular, we measure remarkably long spin lifetimes, τs300 ps, even at 300 K for epilayers of degenerate n-type InSb. In this material the mobility is approximately constant between 77 and 300 K, and we find that τs is approximately constant in this temperature range. In order to determine the dominant spin relaxation mechanism we have investigated the temperature dependence of τs in non-degenerate lightly n-type Hg0.78Cd0.22Te of approximately the same band gap as InSb, and find that τs varies from 356 ps at 150 K to 24 ps at 300 K. Our results, both in magnitude and temperature dependence of τs, imply that the Elliott–Yafet model dominates in these materials. 相似文献

Summary Molecular dynamics simulations have been performed on a number of conformationally flexible pyrethroid insecticides. The results indicate that molecular dynamics is a suitable tool for conformational searching of small molecules given suitable simulation parameters. The structures derived from the simulations are compared with the static conformation used in a previous study. Various physicochemical parameters have been calculated for a set of conformations selected from the simulations using multivariate analysis. The averaged values of the parameters over the selected set (and the factors derived from them) are compared with the single conformation values used in the previous study. 相似文献

2, for the dissociation of the NH+ charge center of the zwitterionic buffer compounds 4-(N-morpholino)butanesulfonic acid (MOBS), and N-(2-hydroxyethyl)piperazine-N-4-butanesulfonic acid (HEPBS) have been determined from 5 to 55°C, including, 37°C at intervals of 5°C. Free energy profiles for alanine racemase from Bacillus stearothermophilus have been determined at pH 6.9 and 8.9 from global analysis of racemization progress curves. This required a careful statistical design due to the problems in finding the global minimum in mean square for a system with eight adjustable parameters (i.e., the eight rate constants that describe the stepwise chemical mechanism). The free energy profiles obtained through these procedures are supported by independent experimental evidence: (1). steady-state kinetic constants, (2). solvent viscosity dependence, (3). spectral analysis of reaction intermediates, (4). equilibrium overshoots for progress curves measured in D(2)O, and (5). the magnitudes of calculated intrinsic kinetic isotope effects. The free energy profiles for the enzyme are compared to those of the uncatalyzed and the PLP catalyzed reactions. At pH 6.9, PLP lowers the free energy of activation for deprotonation by 8.4 kcal/mol, while the inclusion of apoenzyme along with PLP additionally lowers it by 11 kcal/mol. 相似文献

Solubilization environment afforded by several of the novel allyl glycidyl ether-modified methylhydrosiloxane polymers are investigated using a common polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon fluorescence probe, pyrene. The backbone of the polymer has been modified by the addition of an alkyl chain of varying length (either C8, C12, or C18) and to differing degrees of substitution. The nomenclature adopted for the purposes of these studies is as follows: "AGENT" represents the backbone polymer with no alkyl substitution, and "OAGENT", "DAGENT", and "SAGENT" are substituted with n-octyl, n-dodecyl, and n-octadecyl, respectively. The percentage of alkyl substitution is designated as 10, 15, and 20%. The pyrene polarity scale (defined as the ratio of the intensity of peak I to peak III) was used to determine the relative dipolarity of the cybotactic region provided by approximately 1 w/w% aqueous polymer solutions compared to 10 mM sodium dodecylsulfate (SDS) micellar solution. Results indicate that 10-15% DAGENT afforded the most hydrophobic solubilization site, followed by 15% OAGENT and 15% SAGENT. In addition, as the degree of alkyl substitution of DAGENT increased from 10 to 20%, the cybotactic region appeared to become more hydrophobic. Furthermore, a deeper investigation into the relative size of the solubilization site revealed that all alkyl-substituted polymers promoted excimer formation at relatively low pyrene concentrations, indicating the possibility of localized concentration enhancement within the solvation pockets and/or compartmentalization of the solute molecules. The pyrene fluorescence excitation data strongly indicates ground-state heterogeneity that is most prominent in AGENT and decreases as the alkyl chain length is increased. This provides a relative sense of the size and shape of the solvation pockets afforded by each polymer solution. An overall analysis of the collected data indicated that these alkyl-substituted polymers may provide a more selective and efficient pseudostationary phase in electrokinetic chromatography with better solvation capacity for hydrophobic compounds compared to SDS. 相似文献

With the use of high-resolution transmission electron microscopy the structure and morphology of montmorillonite (MMT), a material of current interest for use in polymer nanocomposites, was characterized. Using both imaging theory and experiment, the procedures needed to generate lattice images from MMT were established. These procedures involve careful control of the microscope's objective lens defocus to maximize contrast from features of a certain size, as well as limiting the total dose of electrons received by the sample. Direct images of the MMT lattice were obtained from neat Na+ MMT, organically modified MMT, and organically modified MMT/epoxy nanocomposites. The degree of crystallinity and turbostratic disorder were characterized using electron diffraction and high-resolution electron microscopy (HREM). Also, the extent of the MMT sheets to bend when processed into an epoxy matrix was directly visualized. A minimum radius of curvature tolerable for a single MMT sheet during bending deformation was estimated to be 15 nm, and from this value a critical failure strain of 0.033 was calculated. HREM can be used to improve the understanding of the structure of polymer nanocomposites at the nanometer-length scale. 相似文献

A millimetre wavelength (MMW) Fabry-Perot cavity spectrometer described in earlier work has been applied to the measurement of oxygen absorption at 60 GHz and atmospheric pressure in a gas matrix of nitrogen. The spectrometer has also been modified such that the MMW source is stabilised by a sub-harmonic microwave signal transmitted by an infrared carrier on a single mode telecommunications fibre optic. This is a step towards developing an instrument comprising minimal electronic components that can perform MMW spectrometry remotely. Oxygen determinations were achieved by monitoring the change in the quality factor (Q) of a resonant Fabry-Perot cavity due to the presence of an absorbing sample. The MMW absorption of the sample was determined by incrementing the frequency modulation (FM) deviation of the source frequency scanning the cavity resonance profile. The response curve of absorption signal versus fraction of oxygen in nitrogen was found to be linear throughout the working range of 1-100% O2 (v/v) in N2 with a slope of (1.407±0.007)×10−4 m−1 (% O2)−1. The detection limit (3× standard deviation of the background) was found to be ∼0.8% (v/v). The MMW technique employed is advantageous since, unlike common MMW techniques, there is no vacuum requirement. Application of this method, to the monitoring of oxygen in gas mixtures of practical importance, is proposed. Values of the oxygen spectral absorption coefficients of lines between 55 and 60 GHz were measured at reduced pressure and found to be within ±2% of previous literature values. A pressure correction coefficient for O2 absorption at 60 GHz in the 45-121 kPa range was obtained and found to be (1.354±0.014)×10−4 m−1 kPa−1. 相似文献

The shell phase forms when certain picolinates are subjected to energy input (via sonication or vortexing) while exposed to a water/toluene mixture. A shell, about 600 A thick and containing the picolinate and (very likely) toluene, surround the water droplets that are always produced during the mixing process. Solubility in either phase appears to be deleterious to shell formation. The shells, stable for months, are not easily distorted but can be punctured, even skewered, with a syringe needle without destroying the sphere, yet there is enough mobility among the molecules to repair the physical damage after the needle is removed. This, plus the absence of evidence for crystallinity, suggests a solid or semisolid film forms when picolinates, with the aid of an aromatic solvent, are provided the energy to rearrange themselves on water droplet surfaces. Structure-activity comparisons among the 10 compounds studied indicate that chain-chain association and intermolecular hydrogen bonding are dominant forces in a side-by-side self-assembly of the molecules within the shells. 相似文献
