In quasi-steady operation, convection currents in a Bridgmandevice, used for producing a semi-conductor crystal, createinhomogeneities that may make the crystal unusable. It has oftenbeen suggested that additional forces due to rotation or magnetismmight be efficacious in reducing the segregation of the elementsof the alloy. It has been found that, over a wide range of rotationrates, there is no improvement in performance due to rotationabout the vertical axis. However, numerical results that havebeen obtained previously (Lee & Pearlstein, J. Crys. Growth240, 2002) indicate that, when effects of centrifugal buoyancyare introduced, a substantial reduction in segregation is achieved.In the work reported here, by contrast, in which we extend previouslarge-Rayleigh-number asymptotic analysis to include centrifugalbuoyancy, we find no improvement in radial segregation, butrather increasing segregation with increasing rotation rate.  相似文献

The 1H, 13C, 31P, and 195Pt NMR spectra of [Pt0(PPh3)2(eta-ABC(1) = C(2)XY)] compounds (ABC(1)= C(2)XY (1) A = B = X = Y = H; (3) A = B = X = H, Y = CN; (4) A = H, B = p-NO2-Ph, X = COOCH3, Y = CN; (5) A = H, B = Ph, X = COOCH3, Y = CN; (6) A = H, B = Ph, X = Y = CN; (7) A = H, B = OEt, X = Y = CN), where X and Y are electronacceptor substituents, and the 1H spectrum of [Pt0(PPh3)2(eta2-C60)] (2) are reported together with extended analyses and assignments, based also on the ring current effect of the olefin phenyl in (4-6). Deviations from first order in the 13C spectra allowed the determination of the relative signs of the coupling constants J(P(1), C) and J(P(2), C) of the alkene and of the triphenylphosphine carbons. Best fit simulation of the phosphine C ipso spectrum provided also the 13C isotopic shift on phosphorus for (1). These compounds are characterised by strong differences between the two platinum-phosphorus coupling constants in the case of asymmetric olefins (3-7). The chemical shifts of alkene C(1) and C(2) indicate notable polarisation of the olefin after complexation, while the 1J(Pt, C(1)) and 1J(Pt, C(2)) values are in agreement with a stronger interaction of Pt with C(1) than with C(2). These findings together with the trend of 195Pt chemical shifts confirm the important role played by back-donation in the bonding of platinum(0)-olefin compounds.  相似文献

A series of regioisomers of the hydroxystearic acid (HSA) was prepared, and the effect of the position of the hydroxyl group along the chain on a panel of human cancer cell lines was investigated. Among the various regioisomers, those carrying the hydroxyl at positions 5, 7, and 9 had growth inhibitor activity against various human tumor cell lines, including CaCo-2, HT29, HeLa, MCF7, PC3, and NLF cells. 10-HSA and 11-HSA showed a very weak effect. 8-HSA did not show inhibitory activity in all cell lines. The biological role of 7-HSA and 9-HSA is widely recognized, while little is known about the effects of 5-HSA. Therefore, the biological effects of 5-HSA in HeLa, HT29, MCF7, and NLF cell lines were investigated using the Livecyte’s ptychography technology, which allows correlating changes in proliferation, motility, and morphology as a function of treatment at the same time. 5-HSA not only reduces cell proliferation but also induces changes in cell displacement, directionality, and speed. It is important to characterize the biological effects of 5-HSA, this molecule being an important component of fatty acyl esters of hydroxy fatty acids (FAHFA), a class of endogenous mammalian lipids with noticeable anti-diabetic and anti-inflammatory effects.  相似文献

In the present work, a controlled growth of ZnO nanostructures by manipulating Zn metal ion concentration by the chelating action of ethylene diaminetetra acetic acid in hydrothermal method is studied. EDTA produces metal–chelate complex by the formation of bidentate ligand with Zn2+ in the solution and diminishes the reactivity of Zn metal cations. Concentration of EDTA in the mother solution was varied in different ranges like 3, 5 and 10 mM while retaining the zinc metal salt and the NaOH concentration the same. Three different morphologies of wurtzite structured ZnO nanostructures such as nanorods-bunch, separate/discrete uniformly sized hexagonal nanorods and tapered flower petals like shapes are achieved by 3, 5 and 10 mM strengths of EDTA, respectively. The medium concentration 5 mM of EDTA is found to have moderate control over producing ZnO nanostructures of uniform diameter and a high aspect (length to diameter) ratio. An array of vertically aligned free standing ZnO nanorods with uniform spacing is successfully achieved by the addition of 5 mM of EDTA in the mother solution and the same is studied for its fluorescence property at an excitation of 325 nm and it has exhibited a characteristic UV emission of ZnO around 383 nm.  相似文献

The problem of an anisotropic ellipsoidal inclusion which undergoes a stress-free transformation strain (in the sense of J.D. Eshelby) is considered, and the following theorem is proved: If an ellipsoidal region in an infinite anisotropic linear elastic medium undergoes, in the absence of its surroundings, a stress-free transformation strain which is a polynomial of degree M in the position coordinates xt, then the final stress and strain state in the transformed inclusion, when constrained by its surroundings, is also a polynomial of degree M in xt.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with an analysis of strain localization in ductile crystals deforming by single slip. The plastic flow is modelled as rate-insensitive, and localization, viewed as a bifurcation from a homogeneous deformation mode to one which is concentrated in a narrow ‘shear band’, is found to be possible only when the plastic hardening modulus for the slip system has fallen to a certain critical value hcr, sensitive to the precise form of the constitutive law governing incremental shear. We develop the general form of this constitutive law, incorporating within it the possibility of deviations from the Schmid rule of a critical resolved shear stress, and we show that hcr may in fact be positive when there are deviations from the Schmid rule. It is suggested that micromechanical processes such as ‘cross-slip’ in crystals provide specific cases for which stresses other than the Schmid stress may influence plastic response and, further, there is an experimental association of localization with the onset of large amounts of cross-slip. Thus, we give the specific form of hcr for a constitutive model that corresponds to non-Schmid effects in cross-slip, and we develop a dislocation model of the process from which we estimate the magnitude of the parameters involved. The work supports the notion that localization can occur with positive strain-hardening, hcr > 0, and the often invoked notions of the attainment of an ideally-plastic or strain-softening state for localization may be unnecessary.  相似文献

What is new in the field of neutrino detection? In addition to new projects probing both the low and high ends of the neutrino energy scale, an inexpensive, effective technique is being developed to allow tagging of antineutrinos in water Cherenkov (WC) detectors via the addition to water of a solute with a large neutron cross-section and energetic γ daughters. Gadolinium is an excellent candidate since in recent years it has become very inexpensive, now less than $8 per kilogram in the form of commercially available gadolinium trichloride. This non-toxic, non-reactive substance is highly soluble in water. Neutron capture on gadolinium yields an 8.0 MeV gamma cascade easily seen in detectors like Super-Kamiokande. The uses of GdCl3 as a possible upgrade for the Super-Kamiokande detector — with a view toward improving its performance as an antineutrino detector for supernova neutrinos and reactor neutrinos — are discussed, as are the ongoing R&;D efforts which aim to make this dream a reality within the next two years.  相似文献
