Effect of the Electrolyte Concentration on the Reversibility of a Nickel Oxide Electrode in a Nickel-Zinc Battery

The degree of charging of a nickel oxide electrode composed of spherical nickel hydroxide in a nickel-zinc battery was studied in anodic oxidation of the electrode in KOH solutions of different concentrations, containing hydroxozincate ions.     

Formation of peroxide compounds on the oxidation of lignin by oxygen in an organic solvent

The results are given of a determination of the steady-state concentrations of peroxide compounds on the oxidation of lignin by oxygen in dioxane. An iodometric method of determining peroxides was used, with spectrophotometric control of the amount of iodine formed. It was established that the achievable steady-state concentration of peroxide compounds on the oxidation of lignin is 0.28–0.44 wt. % of O_act (oxygen pressure 1 atm, temperature 50–80°C). With a rise in the temperature, the steady-state concentration of peroxide compounds decreased. The addition of water (30 vol. %) to the organic solvent led to an increase in the rate of accumulation of peroxide compounds. It has been shown that the presence of alkaline and acidic catalysts exerts no appreciable influence on the achievable steady-state concentration and the rate of accumulation of peroxide compounds during the oxidation of lignin.Bratsk Industrial Institute. Nickel-Zinc Battery with Nickel Oxide Electrode Made of Spherical Nickel Hydroxide on Foamed Nickel Support

Electrochemical and working characteristics of a nickel-zinc battery with nickel oxide electrode made of spherical nickel hydroxide on foamed nickel support were determined.     

Influence of Zinc Intercalation on Processes in Nickel Oxide Electrode and on Service Life of Nickel-Zinc Battery

The dependence of capacity and service life of a nickel-zinc battery on the mechanism of zinc transfer and the rate of zinc intercalation into nickel oxide electrodes differing in the conductivities of the active paste and porous structures was studied.     

Preparation of 1-aryl-2-methyl-3-carbethoxy-4,5-dioxo-6-bromoindoles

1-Aryl-2-methyl-3-carbethoxy-5-hydroxy-6-bromoindoles are oxidized by nitric acid to 1-aryl-2-methyl-3-carbethoxy-4,5-dioxo-6-bromoindoles, while 1,2-dimethyl-3-carbethoxy-5-hydroxy-6-bromoindole is converted to the 4,6-dinitro derivative under similar conditions.     

Effect of Lanthanide Additives to a Nickel Oxide Electrode of a Sealed Nickel-Zinc Battery on the Self-Discharge and Hydrogen Pressure

The influence exerted by addition of a nickel-based alloy containing lanthanides (La, Ce, Nd, Pr) to the active paste of a nickel oxide electrode on the self-discharge and hydrogen pressure in a sealed nickel-zinc battery was studied.     

Participation of Zincate Ions in Processes Occurring on Nickel Oxide Electrode of Nickel-Zinc Battery

A mechanism of zinc transfer from the negative to the positive electrode of a nickel-zinc battery was studied.     

Bromination,nitration, and azo coupling of substituted 3-ethoxycarbonyl-5-hydroxybenzofurans

The bromination and nitration of 2-methyl-3-ethoxycarbonyl-5-hydroxybenzofuran (I) leads to 6-bromo and 6-nitro derivatives, while azo coupling results in substitution of the hydrogen in the 4 position.
