Complexation of Macrocyclic Compounds with Silver Ions in Surfactant Media

This paper is a report on the complexation studies of silverions with certain water soluble crown ethers viz., 15-crown-5,18-crown-6, cyclam, diaza 15-crown-5 and certain water insolublecrown ethers viz., benzo 15-crown-5, dibenzodiaza 15-crown-4,dibenzyldiaza 18-crown-6 in some nonionic surfactants viz.,polyoxyethylated alkyl phenol (TX 100), polyoxyethylene (20)sorbiton monolaurate (Tween 20), polyoxyethylene (20) sorbitonmonoleate (Tween 80) and polyoxyethylated glyco monolaurylether (Brij 35) by potentiometry. In addition, conductometry wasalso used to study the complexation of oxa crown ethers to comparethe results obtained by potentiometry, which were found to be ingood agreement with each other. The complexation studies indicate1:1 complex formation between the silver ion and macrocycle, thelog_ML ⁿ⁺ values being in the range 1 to 9.     

Extractive spectrophotometric determination of Cobalt(II) in synthetic and pharmaceutical samples using Cyanex 923.

Cyanex 923 has been proposed as a sensitive analytical reagent for the direct extractive spectrophotometric determination of cobalt(II). Cobalt(II) forms a blue-colored complex with Cyanex 923 in the organic phase. The maximum absorbance of the complex is measured at 635 nm. Beer's law was obeyed in the range 58.9 - 589.0 microg of cobalt. The molar absorptivitiy and Sandell's sensitivity of the complex was calculated to be 6.79 x 10920 l mol(-1) cm(-1) and 0.088 microg cm(-2), respectively. The nature of the extracted species was found to be Co(SCN)2 x 2S. An excellent linearity with a correlation coefficient value of 0.999 was obtained for the Co(II)-Cyanex 923 complex. Stability and regeneration of the reagent (Cyanex 923) for reuse is the main advantage of the present method. The method was successfully applied to the determination of cobalt in synthetic mixtures and pharmaceutical samples was found to give values close to the actual ones. Standard alloy samples, such as high-speed tool BCS 484 and 485, have been tested for the determination of cobalt for the purpose of validating the present method. The results of the proposed method are comparable with atomic absorption spectrometry and were found to be in good agreement.     

Green chemical synthesis of fluorinated 1,3,5-triaryl-s-triazines in aqueous medium under microwaves as potential antifungal agents

Reasonable pure fluorinated s-triazines were synthesized in quantitative yield (96-99%) in 2-3 min in aqueous medium under microwaves, by reaction of fluorinated anilines and aqueous formaldehyde. All synthesized compounds have been screened in vitro for their antifungal activity against Rhizoctonia solani, Fusarium oxysporum, and Collectotrichum capsici.     

Investigation of the reactions of fluorinated isatins and N-acetylisatins with thiocarbohydrazide: Synthesis of a novel spiro system: 2-oxo-1′,2′,4′,5′-tetrahydrospiro[3H-indole-3,3′-1,2,4,5-tetrazine]-6′-thione

A novel system 2-oxo-1′,2′,4′,5′-tetrahydrospiro[3H-indole-3,3′-1,2,4,5-tetrazine]-6′-thione has been synthesized by the treatment of fluorinated isatins with thiocarbohydrazide in aqueous ethanolic medium. Under exactly similar conditions, N-acetylisatin gave exclusively thiocarbohydrazone. The spiro product, on treatment with acetic acid, gave fluorinated isoindigo. Characterization of these products have been done by elemental analyses, ir, pmr and mass spectral studies.     

Structure-activity study of antiepilepticN-aryl-isoxazolecarboxamides/N-isoxazolylbenzamide analogs using Wiener's topological index

The relationship between Wiener's topological index and the antiepileptic activity of a series ofN-aryl-isoxazole carboxamides/N-isoxazolylbenzamide analogs has been investigated. Values of Wiener's topological index for 69 compounds constituting the training set were computed and an active range was identified. Each analog was subsequently assigned an activity which was then compared with the reported antiepileptic activity against the maximal electroshock seizure (MES) test. Due to significant correlation between antiepileptic activity and Wiener's topological index, it was possible to predict antiepileptic activity with an accuracy of 91 % in the active range.     

Microwave assisted green chemical synthesis of novel spiro[indole-pyrido thiazines]: a system reluctant to be formed under thermal conditions

Spiro [3H-indole-3,2′-[4H] pyrido [3,2-e]-1,3-thiazine]-2,4′ (1H) diones, a class of previously unknown compound which does not form under conventional conditions, can be prepared by treatment of ‘in situ’ generated 3-indolylimine derivatives with 2-mercaptonicotinic acid under microwave irradiation in absence of any solvent or solid support in 85-92% yields in 3-8 min. The facile one pot reaction is generalized for a variety of ketones and amines to give pure pyrido [3,2-e] thiazine derivatives, which do not require further purification processes.     

Purification and characterization of a solvent stable protease from Pseudomonas aeruginosa PseA

A solvent tolerant Pseudomonas aeruginosa PseA strain was isolated from soil. It secreted a novel alkaline protease, which was stable and active in the presence of range of organic solvents, thus potentially useful for catalysis in non-aqueous media. The protease was purified 11.6-fold with 60% recovery by combination of ion exchange and hydrophobic interaction chromatography using Q-Sepharose and Phenyl Sepharose 6 Fast Flow matrix, respectively. The apparent molecular mass based on the sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) was estimated to be 35,000 Da. The enzyme was stable in the pH range of 6.0-9.0, the optimum being 8.0. The Km and Vmax towards caseinolytic activity were found to be 2.7 mg/ml and 3 micromol/min, respectively. The protease was most active at 60 degrees C and characterized as a metalloprotease because of its sensitivity to EDTA and 1,10-phenanthroline. It was tested positive for elastase activity towards elastin-orcein, thus appears to be an elastase, which is known as pseudolysin in other strains of P. aeruginosa. The protease withstands range of detergents, surfactants and solvents. It is stable and active in all the solvents having log P above 3.2, at least up to 72 h. These two properties make it an ideal choice for applications in detergent formulations and enzymatic peptide synthesis.     

Studies in spiroheterocycles. Part XVII. synthesis of novel fluorine containing spiro[indole-pyranobenzopyran] and spiro[indenopyran-indole] derivatives

An elegant one-step synthesis of two novel spiro ring systems viz: spiro[3H-indole-3,4′-(2′-amino-3′-carbonitrile-[4′H]-pyrano[3,2-c]benzopyran)]-2,5′(1H)-dione8 and spiro[(2-amino-3-carbonitrile-indeno[1,2-b]pyran)-4(5H)>3′-[3H]indole]-2′,5(1′H)-diones in 80–85% yields is described. The spiro heterocycles were prepared by the reactions of fluorine containing 3-dicyanomethylene-2H-indol-2-ones with 4-hydroxy-2H-1-benzopyran-2-one and 1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione respectively. The synthesized compounds have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, ir, pmr, ¹⁹F nmr and mass spectral data.
