Interactions des alcynes avec les complexes carbéniques du tungstène portant une double liaison carbone— carbone: Accès aux dérivés bicyclo[4,1,0] heptaniques par insertion-cyclopropanation

Treatment of VO(acac)₂ with the facial-tridentate organometallic ligand [η-CpCo{P(O)(OEt)₂}₃]^? affords a new binuclear compound [η-CpCo{P(O)(OEt)₂}₃VO(acac)] (I). This compound undergoes protonation with HPF₆ in the presence of 1,10-phenanthroline (phen), or 2,2′-bipyridyl (bipy), to yield binuclear cationic derivatives [η-CpCo{P(O)(OEt)₂}₃VO(phen))]⁺PF₆^? (II), and [η-CpCo{P(O)(OEth)₂}₃VO(bipy)]⁺PF₆^? (III). The X-ray crystal structure determination and full characterization of I has been performed. The catalytic oxygenation and oxygen transfer to 3,5-di-t-butylcatechol in the presence of I, II⁺, or III⁺ complexes is reported.     

Studium der Reduktion von Resazurin

Zusammenfassung In dieser Arbeit wurden Schlußfolgerungen über den simultanen Verlauf der beiden Reduktionsphasen von Resazurin überprüft.Weiters wurden Bedingungen für die quantitative titanometrische Bestimmung von Resazurin und seiner Derivate ermittelt.

The conclusions about the simultaneous course of reduction of Resazurin to Resorufin and Resorufin to Dihidroresorufin were verified in this work.The conditions for the quantitative titanometric determination of Resazurin and its derivatives were found.

Selective functionalizations of 2-phenylpyridine: lactones upon organic versus organometallic activations

2-Phenylpyridine activated by chromium tricarbonyl reacts with bis(TMS) ketene acetals to give pyridine-substituted bicyclic γ-lactones. On the other hand, its reaction with the same acetals leads, upon activation with methylchloroformate, to dihydropyridines which can be oxidized to highly substituted, lactone-containing piperidines.     

One-pot synthesis of β-amino acid derivatives via addition of bis(O-silyl) ketene acetals on iminium salts

We report here our findings on a new and highly efficient strategy for the synthesis of β-amino acids involving the addition of bis(O-silyl) ketene acetals on Mannich type iminium electrophiles.     

Short Loop Decompositions of Surfaces and the Geometry of Jacobians

Given a Riemannian surface, we consider a naturally embedded graph which captures part of the topology and geometry of the surface. By studying this graph, we obtain results in three different directions.     

Fixed point free involutions on Riemann surfaces

In this paper, involutions without fixed points on hyperbolic closed Riemann surface are discussed. For an orientable surface X of even genus with an arbitrary Riemannian metric d admitting an involution τ, it is known that min _p∈X d(p, τ(p)) is bounded by a constant which depends on the area of X. The corresponding claim is proved to be false in odd genus, and the optimal constant for hyperbolic Riemann surfaces is calculated in genus 2. Uncertainty calculations in the certification of reference materials

To serve as a measurement standard, a (certified) reference material must be stable. For this purpose, the material should undergo stability testing after it has been prepared. This paper looks at the statistical aspects of stability testing. Essentially, these studies can be described with analysis of variance statistics, including variant regression analysis. The latter is used in practice for both trend analysis and for the development of expressions for extrapolations. Extrapolation of stability data is briefly touched upon, as far as the combined standard uncertainty of the reference material is concerned. There are different options to validate the extrapolations made from initial stability studies, and some of them might influence the uncertainty of the reference material and/or the shelf-life. The latter is the more commonly observed consequence of what is called ’stability monitoring’. Received: 6 October 2000 Accepted: 4 December 2000     

Collars and partitions of hyperbolic cone-surfaces

For compact Riemann surfaces, the collar theorem and Bers’ partition theorem are major tools for working with simple closed geodesics. The main goal of this article is to prove similar theorems for hyperbolic cone-surfaces. Hyperbolic two-dimensional orbifolds are a particular case of such surfaces. Synthesis of poly(1.4.-benzamide) in solutions of randomly coiled polymers

The polycondensation of p-aminobenzoic acid by the use of triphenylphospine and hexachloroethane is described. One way to obtain a mixed solution of rigid rod and flexible coil polymers is the polycondensation of the rigid chains in a solution of a flexible polymer matrix. Results on matrix polycondensation of poly(p-benzamide) in solutions of poly(methyl methacrylate), poly(methyl methacrylate-co-styrene), polystyrene and polyacrylonitrile are reported. It is shown that there exists an interrelation between the phase behavior of the mixed polymer solutions and the influence of the matrix polymer on the synthesis of poly(1.4.-benzamide). The ternary phase diagrams of the rigid rod/flexible coil polymer solutions were determined.
