The condensation of water vapor on a volatile polymeric solution leads to a porous surface after evaporation of both solvent and water. However, the stabilization of the water microdroplet is of great importance, which can be achieved using specific polymer or adding a third substance to the polymer solution. Short chain alcohols (methanol, ethanol, and n‐propanol) are utilized to fabricate a self‐assembled porous honeycomb film of linear, low molecular weight polystyrene using the breath figure technique. A combination of breath figure processing and the effect of alcohol on a water droplet can stabilize the pattern and make pores on the surface of the polymer film. The quality of the porous honeycomb film is strongly dependent on the type of alcohols and the concentration of polymer. In a specific range of polymer and alcohol concentration, pores cover all the surface of the polymer film. This method offers the possibility of producing a honeycomb structure with no trace of additive residual after the fabrication process and avoiding polymer modification. © 2015 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In this article, a photonic crystal channel drop filter (CDF) based on \(2\times 3\) ring resonators is presented. At first, the effects of changing the radius of lattice rods and the lattice dielectric constant on the dropping efficiency of a 3-port CDF with one resonator are investigated. Then by developing this base structure, a new 4-port heterostructure CDF composed of two regions with rods made of silicone and germanium is presented, which can operate in the ‘S’ band of the communication window. The photonic crystal heterostructure CDF consists of a horizontal waveguide and two ring resonators that have been installed, in symmetry to the horizontal axis, in two regions with different refractive indices. These ring resonators act as energy couplers and capture at their resonant frequencies the electromagnetic energy which is propagated in the bus waveguide. For the analysis of transmission characteristics and the band structure of the filter, two methods have been employed: the two-dimensional Finite–difference time domain method and the Plane Wave Expansion method. In the final structure, dropping efficiencies of 97 and 89 % can be achieved at ports D and B, respectively, and also an acceptable quality factor can be obtained in the communication window. The overall size of this device is 174.14  \(\upmu \hbox {m}^{2}\) . Due to its small size, this structure can be used in Wavelength Division Multiplexer applications in the Optical Integrated Circuits.  相似文献

Four different sheathless electrospray ionization (ESI) configurations were investigated for a nano liquid chromatography (LC) system. The studied configurations were: a column with an integrated emitter, with the ESI potential applied before or after the column, and a column with separate emitter, with the ESI voltage applied at a union before the emitter or at the emitter tip. The results indicates that the efficiency of the LC system is rather independent of the configuration when using 95 microm i.d. columns, acetic mobile phase and standard peptides as a sample. Introduction of post column dead volume seems not to be a critical issue at least with flow rates down to 600 nl/min.  相似文献

The electrospray ionization (ESI) voltage is shown to interfere with liquid chromatographic separations performed with packed porous graphitic carbon (PGC) capillary columns. This interference is ascribed to the presence of an electric field over the conductive column in the absence of an earth point between the column and the ESI emitter. The current evolved alters the chromatographic behavior of the catecholamine metabolite 3-O-methyl-DOPA significantly, as both peak splitting and a dramatic decrease in the retention time were observed. Furthermore, the response from the mass spectrometer was decreased by 33% at the same time. A related compound, tyrosine, exhibited decreased retention times but no peak splitting, whereas no shifts in the retention times (or peak splitting) were seen for the less retained dopamine and noradrenaline. When the current through the PGC column was eliminated by the use of an earth point between the column and the ESI emitter, the chromatographic behavior of the column was found to return slowly to normal after hours of equilibration with 60 : 40 (v/v) methanol-ammonium formate buffer of pH 2.9. The behavior of the PGC column with and without the earth point was found to be highly reproducible during a period of 1 month. We propose that the effect of the ESI voltage on the chromatographic behavior of the PGC column is due to associated redox reactions affecting both the PGC particles and the analytes. It is concluded that (for analytical reasons), care should be taken to ensure that no current is flowing through the chromatographic system when interfacing PGC columns, and conducting parts in general, to ESI mass spectrometry.  相似文献

We investigated the acoustic and thermal features of a polymeric system by a heterodyne detected transient grating technique. We studied two polymers characterized by different molecular weights. Transient grating experiments could reveal a reliable series of information on sound velocity, acoustic damping time, and thermal diffusion of the polymers. The temperature and molecular weight dependence of the polymer acoustic and thermal properties are reported. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. J Polym Sci Part B: Polym Phys, 2011  相似文献

Small-angle X-ray scattering was used to study the mixture of C12E5 (pentaethylene glycol monododecyl ether)/H2O/n-decane microemulsion and polyethylene glycol (PEG). The size, shape and the structure factor of the microemulsion were investigated by adding the polymer (PEG) to the mixture. Attractive depletion potential was induced between the microemulsion droplets by the non-adsorb polymer. The range and strength of the attractive potential were changed by varying the molecular weight and concentration of PEG. The forward scattering, S(0), of the spherical microemulsion, declined gradually as the polymer concentration decreased. For PEG with the molecular weight of Mn = 285?315, the microemulsion morphology remained spherical, but the main peak of the structure factor moved towards a bigger q. When PEG with molecular weights of Mn = 2200 and Mn = 6000 were used, a shape transition from spherical to cylindrical was induced in line with increasing polymer concentration.  相似文献

Second harmonic generation (SHG) is used to monitor the reorientation a dopant chromophore in slightly entangled poly(methy1 methacrylate) (PMMA). The effect of charge and temperature on both the decay and the much less studied onset modes of SHG signal at temperatures above the glass transition has been examined. At variance with the theoretical predictions, it is shown that the onset and the decay times are not coincident. An isothermal experiment above the glass transition shows a lengthening of relaxation time of the decay mode due to successive poling process, which is ascribed to charge memory effects. In contrast, the latter do not affect the onset characteristic time. The effect of temperature above the glass transition on dopant rotation and polymer relaxations has been also examined. As temperature increases the relaxation times of both the onset and the decay modes decrease. If the surface charge and the charge memory effect are erased, the decay time compares quite well with the structural relaxation time. Differently, the onset time exhibits a partial decoupling.  相似文献

A grade TSX graphite was irradiated by a 2.5 MeV proton and a dose of 1.47 × 1018 ion cm−2 at 330 K. The displacement per atom under this irradiation condition was about 0.02. The lattice parameter, crystallite size and the vacancies density in the graphite was measured before and after irradiation. It was found that the proton irradiation led to an increase in the volume of the sample. The volume change in the irradiated sample was confirmed by atomic force and scanning electron microscopes observations as increased roughness and pore size. Also, FTIR results showed that graphite is slightly oxidized by irradiation.

Gold-coated fused-silica electrospray (ES) emitters based on vapor-deposited adhesion layers of titanium have been manufactured to investigate the possibilities of producing durable ES emitters applicable in chip-based analytical devices. The stabilities of the emitters were studied by both electrospray and electrochemical experiments and a marked increase in the emitter lifetime, compared to that for Cr/Au coated emitters, was found for the Ti/Au emitters in the ES durability tests. This indicates that Ti (rather than Cr) adhesion layers should be used in association with large-scale fabrication of ES emitters by vapor-deposition techniques. The lifetime of about 500-700 hours also allowed the Ti/Au-coated emitter to be used as an integrated part of a capillary liquid chromatography column coupled to a mass spectrometer in a series of LC/MS experiments. The Ti/Au coating was further studied by electrochemical techniques and scanning electron microscopy in conjunction with X-ray spectroscopy. It is shown that the eventual failure of the Ti/Au emitters in ES experiments was due to an almost complete detachment of the gold layer. Experimental evidence suggests that the detachment of the gold coating was due to a reduced adhesion to the titanium layer during oxidation in positive electrospray. Most likely, this was caused by the formation of an oxide layer on the titanium film. It is thus shown that unlimited emitter stabilities are not automatically obtained even if the metallic adhesion layer is stabilized by an oxide formation under positive electrospray conditions.  相似文献

The adsorption of hydroxyethylcellulose (HEC), ethyl(hydroxyethyl)cellulose (EHEC), and their hydrophobically modified counterparts HM-HEC and HM-EHEC has been studied on planar gold and citrate-covered gold surfaces by means of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring (QCM-D), and on citrate-covered gold particles with the aid of dynamic light scattering (DLS). The QCM-D results indicate that larger amounts of polymer are adsorbed from aqueous solutions of HM-HEC and HM-EHEC on both substrates than from solutions of their unmodified analogues. The adsorption affinity for all the polymers, except EHEC, is higher on the citrate-covered surfaces than on the bare gold substrate. This indicates that more adsorption sites are activated in the presence of the citrate layer. The experimental adsorption data for all the polymers can be described fairly well by the Langmuir adsorption isotherm. However, at very low polymer concentrations significant deviations from the model are observed. The value of the hydrodynamic thickness of the adsorbed polymer layer (delta h), determined from DLS, rises with increasing polymer concentration for all the cellulose derivatives; a Langmuir type of isotherm can be used to roughly describe the adsorption behavior. Because of good solvent conditions for HEC the chains extend far out in the bulk at higher concentrations and the value of delta h is much higher than that of HM-HEC. The adsorption of EHEC and HM-EHEC onto gold particles discloses that the values of delta h are considerably higher for the hydrophobically modified cellulose derivative, and this finding is compatible with the trend in layer thickness estimated from the QCM-D measurements.  相似文献
