Antioxidant activities and bioactive compounds of five Jalopeno peppers (Capsicum annuum) cultivars

The present study was designed to evaluate the contents of different antioxidants compounds and their antioxidant activities in Jalopeno peppers (Capsicum annuum) cultivars (El Dorido, Grande, Tula, Sayula and El Rey) extracts. Free radical scavenging activity of Grande was recorded as high as 87% followed by El Dorido (83%). Results of reducing power (Fe³⁺ to Fe²⁺) showed that Grande (0.85%) and El Dorido (0.81%) fruit extract absorbance value were close to synthetic antioxidant BHT (0. 97%) obtained at100 μg/mL. The results showed that total phenolic content of El Dorido and Grande were significantly higher compared to other Jalapeno pepper. Results indicated strong and positive correlation between antioxidant activity and carotenoids content (r = 0.75), vitamin C (r = 0.78) and total capsaicinoids (r = 0.84), respectively. The results of the antioxidant activity assays showed that the El Dorido and Grande had strongest antioxidant activity compared to other peppers cultivars in this study.     

Controlled synthesis of ZnO nanoparticles from a Zn(II) coordination polymer: Structural characterization,optical properties and photocatalytic activity

A zinc coordination polymer derived from pyridine-2,6-dicarboxylate (PDC), {[Zn₂(PDC)₂]}_n, was successfully prepared via conventional, sonication and microwave-irradiation methods. The composition and characteristics of the obtained coordination polymers (CPs) were investigated by elemental analysis, TGA/DTA, X-ray diffraction and spectroscopic techniques. The so obtained CPs were heat-treated in the air at 600 °C for 2 h to produce ZnO of nanosized particles (NPs). It is of interest to note that the synthesis approach of the precursor greatly affects both the nanoparticle size and the structure of the resulting ZnO NPs. Moreover, the smallest particle size was associated with the sample derived from the ultrasonically prepared precursor. TEM analysis revealed that all samples have sphere-like morphologies. Structural analysis of the prepared ZnO samples was conducted and compared using Rietveld analysis of their PXRD patterns. Optical band gap calculations based on analysis of the UV–vis spectra of ZnO samples using Tauc's power law were achieved. The highest band gap of 3.63 eV was observed for ZnO sample obtained from the ultrasonically prepared precursor. Furthermore, the photocatalytic activity of ZnO NPs for the removal of Eosin Y color was monitored. The highest removal efficiency was recorded for ZnO originated from the ultrasonically synthesized precursor. Enhancement of removal efficiency that reached 98% was attained in only a period of 8 min. Its recycling test showed that it can be reused without structural changes over four cycling experiments.     

Sampling with a String

Kramer's sampling theorem forms a bridge between the Whittaker-Shannon-Kotel'nikov sampling theorem and boundary-value problems. It has been shown that sampling expansions associated with Sturm-Liouville boundary-value problems are Lagrange-type sampling series, i.e., Lagrange series with infinitely many terms converging to entire functions. String theory as developed by Feller, Kac, and Krein, is a generalization of the Sturm-Liouville theory. We investigate sampling series associated with strings and compare them with those associated with Sturm-Liouville problems. We show that unlike sampling series associated with Sturm-Liouville problems, those associated with strings include not only Lagrange-type sampling series, but also Lagrange polynomial interpolation.     

Exact controllability of infinite dimensional systems persists under small perturbations

This paper studies the concept of controllability for infinite-dimensional linear control systems in Banach spaces. First, we prove that the set of admissible control operators for the semigroup generator is unchanged if we perturb the generator by the Desch–Schappacher perturbations. Second we show that exact controllability is not changed by such perturbations.     

Task Specific Onium Salts and Ionic Liquids as Soluble Supports in Grieco ’s Multicomponent Synthesis of Tetrahydroquinolines

In this work was presented an application of the use of task specific onium salts (TSOSs) as soluble supports in Grieco’s multicomponent synthesis of tetrahydroquinolines. These soluble supports are of wide applicability and combine advantages of solid phase synthesis without its limitations with those of solution phase chemistry. After a simple washing step, products were cleaved from the supports and obtained in pure form and good yields.     

Growth of InP/InGaAs multiple quantum well structures by chemical beam epitaxy

InP/InGaAs multiple quantum well structures with up to 200 periods have been grown by CBE. These structures exhibit exceptional lateral uniformity, measured as ±1 Å in period, ±13 ppm in lattice mismatch and ±0.5 nm in wavelength across a 2 inch wafer. Good surface morphology, sharp interfaces and excellent growth control have all been demonstrated.     

Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Bisphosphonate Esters. Synthesis, Selective Hydrolysis, and Isomerization

Two simple and efficient one-pot procedures for the synthesis of a series of α-branched N-heterocycle-substituted methane-1,1-bisphosphonates are outlined. In the first method, the parent halosubstrates were reacted with cyanomethylphosphonate followed by reaction with dialkyl phosphonates to give asymmetrical or symmetrical bisphosphonates (BPs). In the second approach, the same halocompounds were reacted with tetraethyl methyl-1,1-bisphosphonate to give the requisite BPs. Partial and complete hydrolysis of the prepared BPs were also investigated. The products contain functional groups advantageous for further synthetic modification as structural units for coupling with the drug.
