An ab initio study of the role of electronic curve crossing in the photodissociation dynamics of the alkyl halides is presented. Recent experimental studies show that curve crossing plays a deterministic role in deciding the channel of dissociation. Coupled repulsive potential energy curves of the low-lying n-sigma(*) states are studied including spin-orbit and relativistic effects. Basis set including effect of core correlation is used. Ab initio vertical excitation spectra of CH(3)I and CF(3)I are in agreement with the experimental observation. The curve crossing region is around 2.371 A for CH(3)I and CF(3)I. The potential curves of the repulsive excited states have larger slope for CF(3)I, suggesting a higher velocity and decreased intersystem crossing probability on fluorination. We also report the potential curves and the region of curve crossing for CH(3)Br and CH(3)Cl.  相似文献

Generalized van Vleck perturbation theory (GVVPT2) for molecular electronic structures is applied to examine the azabenzene series: benzene, pyridine, pyrazine, symmetric triazine and symmetric tetrazine. The spectra of azabenzenes are complex with large numbers of excited states at low energies comprising n --> pi* and pi --> pi* excited states and also doubly excited states of the n,n --> pi*,pi* type. The calculations are complicated due to strong correlation effects in the nitrogen lone-pair orbitals and the pi electrons. This study is the first to use GVVPT2 on conjugated systems. Comparison is made with experimental data and complete active space second-order perturbation theory, equation of motion coupled cluster and similarity transformed equation of motion coupled cluster theory data. Using polarized valence double split basis sets for benzene and pyrazine (cc-pVDZ) and pyridine (ANO-S) and polarized triple split basis sets (ANO-L) for triazine and tetrazine, the n --> pi* and pi --> pi* states are computed with an average error of 0.28 eV in comparison with available experimental data.  相似文献

The photodissociation of bromoiodomethane has been investigated by spin-orbit ab initio calculations. The experimentally observed A- and B-bands and the corresponding photoproducts were assigned by multistate second-order multiconfigurational perturbation theory in conjunction with spin-orbit interaction through complete active space state interaction potential energy curves, vertical excitation energies, and oscillator strengths of low-lying excited states. The present conclusions with respect to the dissociation process in the B-band are different compared with those of previous studies. The reaction between the iso-CH(2)Br-I and iso-CH(2)I-Br species has also been studied. Finally, a set of stable excited states was identified for both isomers. These species might be of importance in the recombination process that follows the photodissociation in a solvent.  相似文献

Six water molecules have been used for microsolvation to outline a hydrogen bonded network around complexes of ethylene epoxide with nucleotide bases adenine (EAw), guanine (EGw) and cytosine (ECw). These models have been developed with the MPWB1K-PCM/6-311++G(3df,2p)//MPWB1K/6-31+G(d,p) level of DFT method and calculated S(N)2 type ring opening of the epoxide due to amino group of the nucleotide bases, viz. the N6 position of adenine, N2 position of guanine and N4 position of cytosine. Activation energy (E(act)) for the ring opening was found to be 28.06, 28.64, and 28.37 kcal mol(-1) respectively for EAw, EGw and ECw. If water molecules were not used, the reactions occurred at considerably high value of E(act), viz. 53.51 kcal mol(-1) for EA, 55.76 kcal mol(-1) for EG and 56.93 kcal mol(-1) for EC. The ring opening led to accumulation of negative charge on the developing alkoxide moiety and the water molecules around the charge localized regions showed strong hydrogen bond interactions to provide stability to the intermediate systems EAw-1, EGw-1 and ECw-1. This led to an easy migration of a proton from an activated water molecule to the alkoxide moiety to generate a hydroxide. Almost simultaneously, a proton transfer chain reaction occurred through the hydrogen bonded network of water molecules and resulted in the rupture of one of the N-H bonds of the quaternized amino group. The highest value of E(act) for the proton transfer step of the reaction was 2.17 kcal mol(-1) for EAw, 2.93 kcal mol(-1) for EGw and 0.02 kcal mol(-1) for ECw. Further, the overall reaction was exothermic by 17.99, 22.49 and 13.18 kcal mol(-1) for EAw, EGw and ECw, respectively, suggesting that the reaction is irreversible. Based on geometric features of the epoxide-nucleotide base complexes and the energetics, the highest reactivity is assigned for adenine followed by cytosine and guanine. Epoxide-mediated damage of DNA is reported in the literature and the present results suggest that hydrated DNA bases become highly S(N)2 active on epoxide systems and the occurrence of such reactions can inflict permanent damage to the DNA.  相似文献

In this work, the dynamical nucleation theory (DNT) model using the ab initio based effective fragment potential (EFP) is implemented for evaluating the evaporation rate constant and molecular properties of molecular clusters. Predicting the nucleation rates of aerosol particles in different chemical environments is a key step toward understanding the dynamics of complex aerosol chemistry. Therefore, molecular scale models of nanoclusters are required to understand the macroscopic nucleation process. On the basis of variational transition state theory, DNT provides an efficient approach to predict nucleation kinetics. While most DNT Monte Carlo simulations use analytic potentials to model critical sized clusters, or use ab initio potentials to model very small clusters, the DNTEFP Monte Carlo method presented here can treat up to critical sized clusters using the effective fragment potential (EFP), a rigorous nonempirical intermolecular model potential based on ab initio electronic structure theory calculations, improvable in a systematic manner. The DNTEFP method is applied to study the evaporation rates, energetics, and structure factors of multicomponent clusters containing water and isoprene. The most probable topology of the transition state characterizing the evaporation of one water molecule from a water hexamer at 243 K is predicted to be a conformer that contains six hydrogen bonds, with a topology that corresponds to two water molecules stacked on top of a quadrangular (H(2)O)(4) cluster. For the water hexamer in the presence of isoprene, an increase in the cluster size and a 3-fold increase in the evaporation rate are predicted relative to the reaction in which one water molecule evaporates from a water hexamer cluster.  相似文献

The pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease is characterized by the aggregation and fibrillation of the 40-residue A beta(1-40) and 42-residue A beta(1-42) peptides into amyloid plaques. The structural changes associated with the conversion of monomeric A beta peptide building blocks into multimeric fibrillar beta-strand aggregates remain unknown. Recently, we established that oxidation of the methionine-35 side chain to the sulfoxide (Met35(red) --> Met35(ox)) significantly impedes the rate of aggregation and fibrillation of the A beta peptide. To explore this effect at greater resolution, we carefully compared the (1)H, (15)N, and (13)C NMR chemical shifts of four A beta peptides that had the Met35 reduced or oxidized (A beta(1-40)Met35(red), A beta(1-40)Met35(ox), A beta(1-42)Met35(red), and A beta(1-42)Met35(ox)). With the use of a special disaggregation protocol, the highly aggregation prone A beta peptides could be studied at higher, millimolar concentrations (as required by NMR) in aqueous solution at neutral pH, remaining largely monomeric at 5 degrees C as determined by sedimentation equilibrium studies. The NOE, amide-NH temperature coefficients, and chemical shift indices of the (1)H alpha, (13)C alpha, and (13)C beta established that the four peptides are largely random, extended chain structures, with the Met35(ox) reducing the propensity for beta-strand structure at two hydrophobic regions (Leu17-Ala21 and Ile31-Val36), and turn- or bendlike structures at Asp7-Glu11 and Phe20-Ser26. Additional NMR studies monitoring changes that occur during aging at 37 degrees C established that, along with a gradual loss of signal/noise, the Met35(ox) significantly hindered upfield chemical shift movements of the 2H NMR signals for the His6, His13, and His14 side chains. Taken together, the present NMR studies demonstrate that the Met35(red) --> Met35(ox) conversion prevents aggregation by reducing both hydrophobic and electrostatic association and that the A beta(1-40)Met35(red), A beta(1-40)Met35(ox), A beta(1-42)Met35(red), and A beta(1-42)Met35(ox) peptides may associate differently, through specific, sharp changes in structure during the initial stages of aggregation.  相似文献

In the current work, we followed a green chemistry route to prepare and characterize the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) using Syzygium aromaticum (clove) extract at room temperature. Suitably, the clove extract acted as a reducing agent as well as a capping agent, and these reactions occurred rapidly. The formation of the AgNPs was confirmed by the observation of the distinct absorption peak at a wavelength of 418 nm using ultraviolet–visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy, and a morphological study confirmed the uniform distribution of the optimally spherical nanoparticles. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results indicated the methoxy and allyl functional groups of eugenol of the clove extract to be responsible for the bioreduction of silver ions and for the stabilization of the resulting nanoparticles (flavonoids). We also found the AgNPs to be effective catalysts of the degradation of three pollutant organic dyes viz., 4‐nitrophenol, methylene blue and rhodamine B, in the presence of excess NaBH4. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of the bio‐synthesized AgNPs were also explored. Overall, the results suggested the potential use of clove extract as a resource for the synthesis of AgNPs having a broad range of possible commercial and biomedical applications.  相似文献
