Studies on Fused Azoles: Synthesis of Several Polyfunctionally Substituted Fused Azoles

The synthesis of several new polyfunctionally substituted fused pyrazoles via reaction of 5‐amino‐3‐methylthio‐1H‐pyrazole‐4‐carboxylate ( 2 ) with different reagents is described.     

Influence of substrate temperature on the properties of electron beam evaporated ZnSe films

ZnSe films were deposited on glass substrates keeping the substrate temperatures, at room temperature (RT), 75, 150 and 250 °C. The films have exhibited cubic structure oriented along the (111) direction. Both the crystallinity and the grain size increased with increasing deposition temperature. A very high value of absorption co‐efficient (10⁴ cm^‐1) is observed. The band gap values decrease from a value of 2.94 eV to 2.69 eV with increasing substrate temperature. The average refractive index value is in the range of 2.39 – 2.41 for the films deposited at different substrate temperatures. The conductivity values increases continuously with temperature. Laser Raman spectra showed peaks at 140.8 cm^‐1, 246.7 cm^‐1and 204.5 cm^‐1which are attributable to 2TA LO phonon and TO phonon respectively. (© 2010 WILEY‐VCH Verlag GmbH & Co. Selective colorimetric and fluorometric sensing of Cu(II) by iminocoumarin derivative in aqueous buffer

A new iminocoumarin based receptor L (C(27)H(26)N(4)OS) is synthesized with pyridyl and benzothiazolyl functionality. Synthesis of L is easy and it is isolated in good yield. L shows a selective and distinct color change from yellow to orange with Cu(2+) over Li(+), Na(+), Ca(2+), Mg(2+), Cr(2+), Mn(2+), Fe(2+), Co(2+), Ni(2+), Cu(2+), Zn(2+), Cd(2+), Pb(2+), and Ag(+) whereas a slight change in color is also observed in the case of Hg(2+) but L shows selective fluorescent quenching only in the presence of Cu(2+) in aqueous HEPES buffer (pH 7.0). The naked eye detection limit of Cu(2+) is determined at 2 μM whereas an emission experiment shows a lower detection limit at 200 nM. Selectivity studies of L in presence of 50 equivalents of other ion(s) by emission experiment show no interference toward the detection of 1 equivalent of Cu(2+). Both UV-Vis and fluorescence studies in the presence of Cu(2+)-salts of different counter anions with various sizes and shapes (Cl(-), ClO(4)(-), NO(3)(-), CF(3)SO(3)(-), SO(4)(2-) and BF(4)(-)) show almost similar spectral output in buffer media irrespective of the nature of the counter anions. The detailed UV-Vis and fluorescence titration experiments suggest the existence of both 1:1 and 2:1 (L:Cu(2+)) complexation stoichiometry and EPR study shows d(x(2)-y(2)) ground state of the Cu(II) centre in the complex. Furthermore the formation of a mononuclear [Cu(L)(CH(3)CN)].2ClO(4) complex and the flexible conformation of L in the solid state are confirmed by the single-crystal X-ray structural study.     

A new three-component reaction: green synthesis of novel isoindolo[2,1-a]quinazoline derivatives as potent inhibitors of TNF-α

Concurrent construction of five and six membered fused N-heretocyclic ring was achieved via a conceptually new three-component reaction affording 6,6a-dihydroisoindolo[2,1-a]quinazoline-5,11-diones as novel inhibitors of TNF-αin vitro. This represents one of the few examples of direct TNF-α inhibition by small molecules.     

CONTROLLING THE 3D NANOSCALE ORGANIZATION OF BULK HETEROJUNCTION POLYMER SOLAR CELLS

Phytochemical analysis, cytotoxic activity and constituents-activity relationships of the leaves of Cinnamomum iners (Reinw. ex Blume-Lauraceae)

The leaves of Cinnamomum iners (Reinw. ex Blume-Lauraceae) have been refluxed successively with chloroform and alcohol to get chloroform extract and alcoholic extract. Both the extracts have been assayed for cytotoxicity against human colorectal tumour cells. The chloroform extract exhibited significant cytotoxicity with IC(50) 31?μg mL(-1) (p??200?μg mL(-1). The chloroform extract has been further proceeded for chemical analysis by GC-TOFMS and 178 components were identified including acids, amines, amides, aldehydes, alcohols, esters, benzene derivatives, bicyclic compounds, terpenes, hydrocarbons, naphthalene derivatives, furan derivatives, azulenes, etc. Nine components representing 51.73% of the total chloroform extract were detected as major components. Caryophyllene (14.41%) and Eicosanoic acid ethyl ester (12.17%) are the most prominent components of the chloroform extract. β-Caryophyllene (14.41%) as most abundant compound supports potent cytotoxicity as shown by chloroform extract.     

Tunable energy transfer distributed feedback dye laser using pyronin B and crystal violet dye mixture

Using pyronin B and crystal violet dye mixture, the characteristics of energy transfer distributed feedback dye laser (ETDFDL) pumped by 532 nm Nd:YAG laser were investigated. The characteristics of donor DFDL and acceptor DFDL as well as the dependence of their pulse widths and output powers on pump power and acceptor concentrations were studied. The output energy of DFDL was measured at the emission peaks of donor and acceptor dyes for different pump powers and acceptor concentrations, and tunability was observed from 570 to 645 nm using prism dye cell arrangement.     

Plutonium Isotopes in Sediments from the Sudanese Coast of the Red Sea

This paper presents the activity concentrations of Pu isotopes in surface marine sediments collected from the Sudanese coast of the Red Sea. The following concentration ranges were determined: ²³⁸Pu, 4.7–28.6 mBq/kg; ^239+240Pu, 53–343 mBq/kg dry weight. The average activity ratios of ²³⁸Pu/^239+240Pu (0.075±0.045 mBqk/kg) and ^239+240Pu/¹³⁷Cs (0.026±0.025 mBq/kg) are appropriately comparable to the literature values that are characteristic of the global fallout from the atmospheric nuclear weapon tests. However, ^239+240Pu/¹³⁷Cs ratio in sediments collected from the biologically rich fringing reef is an order of magnitude higher compared to other sampling locations.
