The calculation of the bond-length alternation (BLA) in trans-polyacetylene has been chosen as benchmark to emphasize the effect of the self-interaction error within density-functional theory (DFT). In particular, the BLA of increasingly long acetylene oligomers has been computed using the M?ller-Plesset wave-function method truncated at the second order and several DFT models. While local-density approximation (LDA) or generalized gradient corrected (GGA) functionals strongly underestimate the BLA, approaches including self-interaction corrections (SIC) provide significant improvements. Indeed, the simple averaged-density SIC scheme (ADSIC), recently proposed by Legrand et al. [J. Phys. B 35, 1115 (2002)], provides better results for the structure of large oligomers than the more complex approach of Krieger et al. [Phys. Rev. A 45, 101 (1992)]. The ADSIC method is particularly promising since both the exchange-correlation energy and potential are improved with respect to standard LDA/GGA using a physically appealing correction, through a different route than the more popular approach through the Hartree-Fock exchange inclusion within the hybrid functionals.  相似文献

As an alternative to conventional charge-separation functional molecular models based on long-range ET within redox cascades, a "compact approach" has been examined. To this end, spacer elements usually inserted between main redox-active units within polyad systems have been removed, allowing extended rigidity but at the expense of enhanced intercomponent electronic communication. The molecular assemblies investigated here are of the P-(theta (1))-A type, where the theta (1) twist angle is related to the degree of conjugation between the photosensitizer (P, of {Ru(bpy)(3)}(2+) type) and the electron-acceptor (A). 4-N- and 4-N-,4'-N-(2,4,6-triphenylpyridinio)-2,2'-bipyridine ligands (A(1)-bpy and A(2)-bpy, respectively) have been synthesized to give complexes with Ru(II), 1-bpy and 2-bpy, respectively. Combined solid-state analysis (X-ray crystallography), solution studies ((1)H NMR, cyclic voltammetry) and computational structural optimization allowed verifying that theta (1) angle approaches 90 degrees within 1-bpy and 2-bpy in solution. Also, anticipated existence of strong intercomponent electronic coupling has been confirmed by investigating electronic absorption properties and electrochemical behavior of the compounds. The capability of 1-bpy and 2-bpy to undergo PET process was evaluated by carrying out their photophysical study (steady state emission and time-resolved spectroscopy at both 293 and 77 K). The conformational dependence of photoinduced processes within P-(theta (1))-A systems has been established by comparing the photophysical properties of 1-bpy (and 2-bpy) with those of an affiliated species reported in the literature, 1-phen. A complementary theoretical analysis (DFT) of the change of spin density distribution within model [1-bpy(theta (1))](-) mono-reduced species as a function of theta (1) has been undertaken and the possibility of conformationally switching emission properties of P was derived.  相似文献

Experiments by Gittings, Bandyopadhyay and Durian (Europhys. Lett. 65, 414 (2004)) demonstrate that light possesses a higher probability to propagate in the liquid phase of a foam due to total reflection. The authors term this observation photon channelling which we investigate in this article theoretically. We first derive a central relation in the work of Gitting et al. without any free parameters. It links the photon's path-length fraction f in the liquid phase to the liquid fraction ɛ. We then construct two-dimensional Voronoi foams, replace the cell edges by channels to represent the liquid films and simulate photon paths according to the laws of ray optics using transmission and reflection coefficients from Fresnel's formulas. In an exact honeycomb foam, the photons show superdiffusive behavior. It becomes diffusive as soon as disorder is introduced into the foams. The dependence of the diffusion constant on channel width and refractive index is explained by a one-dimensional random-walk model. It contains a photon channelling state that is crucial for the understanding of the numerical results. At the end, we shortly comment on the observation that photon channelling only occurs in a finite range of ɛ.  相似文献

The capillary electrophoresis separation of four inorganic anions (NO3-, I-, Br- and SCN-) was investigated over the whole range of methanol-water mixture composition. As the separation selectivity was strongly dependent on the solvent composition, the influence of ion-pairing and solvation phenomena was examined in depth in an attempt to explain this modification. First, a series of experiments was performed in methanolic background electrolytes, with counter-ions of different size. Ion-pair formation involving electrolyte ions was assessed to allow for a correction for free electrolyte ion concentration. Ion-pair formation constants between each inorganic anion and electrolyte counter-ion were next determined from the variations of the anion mobility as a function of the free counter-ion concentration. In view of the low values obtained, ion-pair formation alone failed to explain the selectivity variations. Solvation phenomena were then investigated with the help of a theoretical quantum model, the density functional theory (DFT), coupled with a polarizable continuum model to mime non-specific solvent effects. Whereas this model proved successful at predicting the mobility order at infinite dilution in water, it failed to predict the correct order in methanol.  相似文献

An integrated quantum mechanical approach for the structural and magnetic characterization of flexible free radicals in solution has been applied to a model of the glycyl radical engaged in peptidic chains. The hyperfine couplings computed using hybrid density functionals and purposely tailored basis sets are in good agreement with experiment when vibrational averaging effects from low frequency motions and solvent effects (both direct H bonding and bulk) are taken into the proper account. The g tensor shows a smaller dependence on the specific form of the density functional, the extension of the basis set over a standard double-zeta+polarization level, vibrational averaging, and bulk solvent effects. However, hydrogen bridges with solvent molecules belonging to the first solvation shell play a significant role. Together with their intrinsic interest, our results show that a comprehensive and reliable computational approach is becoming available for the complete characterization of open-shell systems of biological interest in their natural environment.  相似文献

Nearly 50-nm thick La0.7Sr0.3MnO3 (LSMO) films were grown on Si substrates using molecular beam epitaxy on (001) Si substrates over-layered by a 20 nm thick SrTiO3 (STO) or by a 20 nm thick CaTiO3 (CTO) film. In addition, a reference LSMO film was directly deposited on a (001) STO substrate by pulsed laser deposition. For all the samples, X-ray diffraction revealed an excellent epitaxy of the LSMO film and small mosaicity around (001), with in-plane [100] and [010] cubic axes. The LSMO/CTO films are in-plane compressed while the LSMO/STO ones are in-plane extended. The temperature dependence of their static magnetic properties was studied using a SQUID, showing a Curie temperature overpassing 315 K for all the samples. Hysteresis loops performed at room temperature (294 K) with the help of a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM) are also discussed. At 294 K Micro-strip ferromagnetic resonance (MS-FMR) was used to investigate the dynamic magnetic properties. It allows concluding to a strong anisotropy perpendicular to the films and to a weak fourfold in-plane anisotropy with easy axes along the [110] and [1[`1]0 1\bar{1}0 ] directions. Their values strongly depend on the studied sample and are presumably related to the strains suffered by the films.  相似文献

We present a periodic density functional theory investigation of twoproton‐ordered phases of ice. Their equilibrium lattice parameters,relative stabilities, formation energies, and densities of states havebeen evaluated. Nine exchange‐correlation functionals, representativeof the generalized gradient approximation (GGA), global hybrids,range‐separated hybrids, meta‐GGA, and hybrid meta‐GGA families havebeen taken into account, considering two oxygen basis sets. Althoughthe hydrogen‐bond network of ice is well reproduced at the B3LYP,M06‐L, or LC‐ wPBE levels, formation energies are only correctlyevaluated with the two former functionals. Band gaps on the other handare only quantitatively reproduced at the B3LYP level. These resultsindicate that this last functional, a de facto reference formolecular calculations, gives in average the most accurate results forthe considered ice properties. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
