The noncovalent interactions between 4′, 6‐diamidino‐2‐phenylindole (DAPI) and sulfobutylether β‐cyclodextrin (SBE7β‐CD) are evaluated by using photochemical measurements and compared with that of native β‐CD. Contrasting recognition behavior and intriguing modulations in the photochemical behavior of DAPI were observed. In particular, a large enhancement in the fluorescence emission and excited‐state lifetime were seen upon binding to SBE7β‐CD, with the SBE7β‐CD inclusion complex being approximately 1000 times stronger than that of β‐CD. The ensuing fluorescence “turn on” was demonstrated to be responsive to chemical stimuli, such as metal ions and adamantylanmine (AD). Upon addition of Ca2+/AD, nearly quantitative dissociation of the complex was established to regenerate the free dye and result in fluorescence “turn off”. The SO3? groups are believed to be critical for the strong and selective binding of the chromophore and the stimuli‐responsive tuning. This is as an important design criterion for the optimization of host–guest properties through supramolecular association, which is relevant for drug‐delivery applications.  相似文献

The intriguing dual‐emission behavior of p‐ dimethylaminobenzonitrile (DMABN) and the identity of the associated excited states is, arguably, the most extensively investigated and also controversially discussed molecule‐ specific phenomenon of modern photochemistry. We have now found a new, third fluorescence band when DMABN is encapsulated within the water‐soluble molecular container cucurbit[8]uril (CB8). It is centered between the previously observed emissions and assigned to the elusive excimer emission from DMABN through 1:2 CB8:DMABN complex formation. Heating of the CB8 ? (DMABN)2 complex from 0 to 100 °C results in the dissociation of the ternary complex and restoration of the dual‐emission properties of the monomer. Alternatively, monomer emission can be obtained by selecting cucurbit[7]uril (CB7), a host homologue that is too small to accommodate two DMABN molecules, or by introducing ethyl instead of methyl groups at the amino terminus of the aminobenzonitrile guest.  相似文献

The aggregation behavior of the DNA marker dye thiazole orange (TO), has been investigated in two types of surfactant assemblies, namely, premicelles/micelles of sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) and pre reverse micelles/reverse micelles of sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl) sulfosuccinate (AOT). In the case of an SDS/water system, absorption spectral changes of TO signify the formation of H-aggregates and H-dimers of the dye at premicellar concentrations, which subsequently convert to the monomeric form beyond the critical micellar concentration (cmc). Interestingly, the observed changes in the absorption and emission characteristics due to the surfactant-induced formation of H-aggregates/dimers of TO are found to be useful to estimate the surfactant concentration parameters for premicellar aggregation of SDS. In the case of an AOT/n-heptane system, similarly, H-aggregates/dimers are observed at low AOT concentrations, below the cmc. However, in this case, the H-dimers persist even beyond the cmc. This is attributed to the strong tendency of TO for self-aggregation and its favorable electrostatic interactions with the AOT head groups. With increasing water content in the AOT reverse micelles, the hydration of the dye leads to the conversion of H-dimers to the monomeric form. The steady-state fluorescence results are nicely corroborated with those from time-resolved fluorescence studies and demonstrate the interesting behavior of the surfactant-induced aggregation of TO dye.  相似文献

Ultrafast photoinduced bimolecular electron transfer (ET) dynamics between 7-aminocoumarin derivatives and N,N-dimethylaniline (DMAN) has been studied in neutral (TX100), cationic (DTAB) and anionic (SDS) micellar media. A very fast decay time constant (tau(fast)) shorter than approximately 10 ps has been observed for the coumarins in the presence of DMAN in all of the three micellar media. In this time scale, reactants in the micellar phase undergo ET interactions without involving diffusion or reorientation of the reactants and thus can be envisaged as equivalent to nondiffusive bimolecular ET reaction. The fastest ET rates estimated as the inverse of the shortest lifetime components of the fluorescence decay (k(et) congruent with tau(fast)(-1)) nicely follow the predicted Marcus inversion behavior with reaction exergonicity (-DeltaG degrees), irrespective of the nature of micelles considered. Onset of inversion in ET rates occur at approximately 0.61 eV lower exergonicity in SDS and TX100 micelles compared with that in DTAB micelle and are rationalized following two-dimensional ET (2DET) theory. These differences suggest the possibility of tuning Marcus inversion by proper selection of micelles. Interestingly, ET rates (k'(et)) obtained from the conventional Stern-Volmer analysis of the relatively longer time constants of the fluorescence decays also exhibit similar Marcus correlation with DeltaG degrees, showing clear inversion behavior. Fitting of Marcus correlation curves for k(et) and k'(et) indicate two largely different values for the electronic coupling parameters. In micellar media, as the interacting donor-acceptor molecules are on an average expected to be separated by an intervening surfactant chain and the reorientation rate of the reactants is quite slow, it is predicted that the ultrafast ET (k(et)) component arises because of the surfactant separated donor-acceptor pairs that are orientated perfectly to give the maximum electronic coupling. The slower ET (k'(et)) is predicted to arise because of those pairs where the donor-acceptor orientations are not very suitable but good enough to give a sizable electronic coupling.  相似文献

Deaggregated perylenediimide (PDI) derivatives exhibit exceptionally high quantum yields, photostability and appropriate molecular features for organic electronics. This work demonstrates a metal–dye–metal framework with a large and stable negative differential resistance (NDR) at ambient conditions, built using a supramolecular strategy. The deaggregation achieved through the encapsulation of the bay-substituted phenyl groups of aggregated (l/d )-Phe-PDI dyes by the β-CD macrocyclic host is validated through detailed spectroscopic and imaging techniques. The host–guest interaction resulted in a dramatic enhancement in the emission yield from 0.28 to 0.90. In the thin film deposits, the β-CD/(l/d )-Phe-PDI complex displayed well-connected sheet-like morphology, whereas the uncomplexed (l/d )-Phe-PDI dye remained as scattered lumps. The large and reversible I–V characteristics displaying strong NDR behavior is attributed to the oxidation/reduction processes involving the rigid π-rich PDI core and is stable at least for about six months at ambient conditions, a promising system for organic electronics applications.  相似文献

The excited-state dynamics of a transition metal complex, tris(2,2'-bipyridine)ruthenium(II), [Ru(bpy)(3)](2+), has been investigated using femtosecond fluorescence upconversion spectroscopy. The relaxation dynamics in these molecules is of great importance in understanding the various ultrafast processes related to interfacial electron transfer, especially in semiconductor nanoparticles. Despite several experimental and theoretical efforts, direct observation of a Franck-Condon singlet excited state in this molecule was missing. In this study, emission from the Franck-Condon excited singlet state of [Ru(bpy)(3)](2+) has been observed for the first time, and its lifetime has been estimated to be 40 +/- 15 fs. Biexponential decays with a fast rise component observed at longer wavelengths indicated the existence of more than one emitting state in the system. From a detailed data analysis, it has been proposed that, on excitation at 410 nm, crossover from higher excited (1)(MLCT) states to the vibrationally hot triplet manifold occurs with an intersystem crossing time constant of 40 +/- 15 fs. Mixing of the higher levels in the triplet state with the singlet state due to strong spin-orbit coupling is proposed. This enhances the radiative rate constant, k(r), of the vibrationally hot states within the triplet manifold, facilitating the upconversion of the emitted photons. The vibrationally excited triplet, which is emissive, undergoes vibrational cooling with a decay time in the range of 0.56-1.3 ps and relaxes to the long-lived triplet state. The results on the relaxation dynamics of the higher excited states in [Ru(bpy)(3)](2+) are valuable in explaining the role of nonequilibrated higher excited sensitizer states of transition metal complexes in the electron injection and other ultrafast processes.  相似文献

Noncovalent interaction of two water-soluble synthetic macromolecules, Cucurbit[7]uril (CB7) and 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(4- N-methylpyridyl)porphyrin (TMPyP), has been studied from the viewpoint of organizing them through supramolecular interactions and thereby modulating their functional activities. Steady-state and time-resolved fluorescence measurements along with NMR results establish that CB7 crowns the N-methylpyridyl group of the TMPyP in a 1:4 stoichiometry. The overall binding constant was evaluated to be approximately 4.5 x 10 (19) M (-4). The high binding affinity, promoting a stable and extendable molecular assembly in aqueous solution, could open new frontiers in the design and synthesis of higher-order supramolecular structures with photofunctional moieties and project their utility in therapeutic applications.  相似文献

The effect of the macrocyclic host, cucurbit[7]uril (CB7), on the photophysical properties of the 2‐(2′‐hydroxyphenyl)benzimidazole (HPBI) dye have been investigated in aqueous solution by using ground‐state absorption and steady‐state and time‐resolved fluorescence measurements. All three prototropic forms of the dye (cationic, neutral, and anionic) form inclusion complexes with CB7, with the largest binding constant found for the cationic form (K≈2.4×106 M ?1). At pH≈4, the appearance of a blue emission band upon excitation of the HPBI cation in the presence of CB7 indicates that encapsulation into the CB7 cavity retards the deprotonation process of the excited cation, and hence reduces its subsequent conversion to the keto form. Excitation of the neutral form (pH≈8.5), however, leads to an increase in the keto form fluorescence, indicating an enhanced excited‐state intramolecular proton‐transfer process for the encapsulated dye. In both the ground and excited states, the two pKa values of the HPBI dye show upward shifts in the presence of CB7. The prototropic equilibrium of the CB7‐complexed dye is represented by a six‐state model, and the pH‐dependent changes in the binding constants have been analyzed accordingly. It has been observed that the calculated pKa values using this six‐state model match well with the values obtained experimentally. The changes in the pKa values in the presence of CB7 have been corroborated with the modulation of the proton‐transfer process of the dye within the host cavity.  相似文献
