Supramolecular block‐random copolymers containing [Ir(terpy)2]3+ in the side chain were synthesized via postfunctionalization of a P(S‐b‐ACterpy) block copolymer. Absorbance and emission spectra compared to a model compound show that the polymer backbone has a minor effect on the polymer absorbance but produces a larger shift for the phosphorescence signals to higher wavelength. Dynamic light scattering of the metal complex containing copolymer studied in various solvents showed monomodal aggregation with decreasing aggregate size as the solvent dielectric constant increased. The copolymer precursor P(S‐b‐ACterpy) shows multimodal aggregation in different solvents with the major population consisting of single chains. This difference in behavior between the two polymers is attributed to the electrolytic nature of the complex and the amphiphilicity induced by the charged metal complex. Supramolecular copolymers like these will continue to have interesting self‐organizational properties and may find applications in multicomponent systems for photoinduced charge separation processes. © 2006 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Effects of chain length and heat treatment on the nanotribology of alkylsilane monolayers self-assembled on a rough aluminum surface 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The conformational order of alkylsilane monolayers self-assembled on a rough aluminum surface is affected by the molecular chain length and the thermal history of the sample. These monolayers have been characterized by grazing angle FTIR spectroscopy. Tribological mechanisms were explored using initial molecular conformation order, sliding distance, normal load, and substrate compliance as experimental variables. Results indicate that the initial conformational disorder of the molecules determines the level of friction at the commencement of sliding. Adverse changes in dynamic friction and monolayer life during sliding are not thermally induced but are related to substrate roughness and local plasticity. Plastic deformation reduces the spatial density of the alkylsilane monolayer and is accentuated by an increase in the normal load. 相似文献

Summary. A short facile synthesis of the fungal metabolite (±)-3,4-dihydro-3,6,8-trihydroxy-3- pentadecylisocoumarin (peniolactol)
has been achieved. Condensation of hexadecanoyl chloride with 3,5-dimethoxyhomophthalic acid afforded 6,8-dimethoxy-3-pentadecylisocoumarin,
which on sequential saponification and demethylation furnished rac-peniolactol in 31% overall yield. The ring-chain tautomerism was studied in solution by 1H NMR and the mass fragmentation pattern. 3-Pentadecyl- isocoumarin was also synthesized and saponified to the corresponding
keto acid as a model compound for comparative studies.

A relatively less expensive Phillips PV 9500/SY 585 automatic energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXFR) spectrometer with rhodium target, was modified using a commercial kitchen aluminium wrapping foil filter, for the determination of chloride in bifunctional reforming catalysts. Quantitation of chloride was carried out by the Claisse-Quintin method with a catalyst sample of known chloride content as an external standard. The results of EDXRF chloride analysis of different catalyst samples, containing varying amounts of percent carbon and chloride, compared well (p>0.75) with those obtained by silver chloride precipitation method. The small values of percent relative standard deviations at 0.4 to 4.5% showed a good reproducibility of the method. With the total analysis time of a few minutes combined with no sample preparation, the present method seems to be superior as compared to presently employed methods of chloride analysis in reforming catalysts. 相似文献

Abundant n → π* interactions between adjacent backbone carbonyl groups, identified by statistical analysis of protein structures, are predicted to play an important role in dictating the structure of proteins. However, experimentally testing the prediction in proteins has been challenging due to the weak nature of this interaction. By amplifying the strength of the n → π* interaction via amino acid substitution and thioamide incorporation at a solvent exposed β-turn within the GB1 proteins and Pin 1 WW domain, we demonstrate that an n → π* interaction increases the structural stability of proteins by restricting the ϕ torsion angle. Our results also suggest that amino acid side-chain identity and its rotameric conformation play an important and decisive role in dictating the strength of an n → π* interaction.Amino acid residues adopt a right-handed α-helical conformation with increasing strength of the n → π* interaction. We also demonstrate a direct consequence of n → π* interactions on enhancing the structural stability of proteins. 相似文献

The viscoelastic properties of single poly(ethylene glycol) (PEG) molecules were measured by analysis of thermally and magnetically driven oscillations of an atomic force microscope (AFM) cantilever/molecule system. The molecular and monomer stiffness and friction of the PEG polymer were derived using a simple harmonic oscillator (SHO) model. Excellent agreement between the values of these two parameters obtained by the two approaches indicates the validity of the SHO model under the experimental regimes and the excellent reproducibility of the techniques. A sharp minimum in the monomeric friction is seen at around 180 pN applied force which we propose is due to a force induced change in the shape of the energy landscape describing the conformational transition of PEG from a helical to a planar state, which in turn affects the timescale of the transition and therefore modifies the measured internal friction. A knowledge of the viscoelastic response of PEG monomers is particularly important since PEG is widely used as a linker molecule for tethering groups of interest to the AFM tip in force spectroscopy experiments, and we show here that care must be exercised because of the force-dependent viscoelastic properties of these linkers. 相似文献
