THE RESEARCHES OF GLACIER LAKE OUTBURST FLOODS OF THE YARKANT RIVER IN XINJIANG

The Jokulhlaup of the Yarkant River (Yarkant He) is usually csused by the sudden discharge of the glacier-dammed lake and the mode of the discharge is the rapid expansion of the subglacial channel. Keyajir (Kyagar) Glacier and Telamukanli Glacier are on the upper reaches of the Keleqin (Shaksgam) River, the chief birthplaces of this kind of flood. Up to the end of this century, since the global climate has become warmer, the glaciers have accordingly shrunk and become thinner, with the result that the size and dimensions of the glacier-dammed lakes and their outburst floods have diminished. All these simply reveal the mystery of the Jokulhlaups of the Yarkant River in Xinjiang.     

喀喇昆仑山Ghulkin冰川的雷达测深

1980年夏,作者和英国学者一道在巴基斯坦对喀喇昆仑山的Ghulkin冰川进行了野外考察和雷达测深工作。在Ghulkin冰川冰舌上测了四条横断面和一条纵断面,共32个点。在此基础上计算出这些点冰的厚度,分析了测量误差,最后指出Ghulkin冰川的某些特点及其初步解释。     

RADIO-ECHO SOUNDING ON THE GHULKIN GLACIER IN THE KARAKORAM MOUNTAINS

Together with their British friends, the authors made a field investigation in the Karakoram Mountains in Pakistan for radio-echo sounding on the Ghulkin Glacier during the summer of 1980.Four transverse sections and one longitudinal section including thirty-two measurement points have surveyed on the glacier tongue. The ice-depths at the points have been calculated, and measurement errors analysed on the basis of experimental data.The history and present status of radio-echo sounding are briefly reviewed and appraised in this paper.     

新疆叶尔羌河冰川湖突发洪水研究

叶尔羌河的突发性洪水,系冰川阻塞湖的突然排水所致,排水方式为冰下水道的迅速扩大,克勒青河上游克亚吉尔冰川与特拉木坎力冰川是这种洪水的主要策源地。到本世纪末,随着全球性的气候变暖,冰川后退变薄,冰川阻塞湖及其爆发洪水的规模将日益变小。从而揭开了新疆叶尔羌河突发性洪水之谜。
