Pruning of orbits in four-disk and hyperbola billiards

It is shown that for the four-disk system and the hyperbola billiard it is possible to construct a new symbolic plane preserving the orientation existing in the dynamical space. Physical orbits are mapped into the topological well-ordered plane and it is shown that the forbidden and allowed orbits are separated by a monotone pruning front.     

A Novel, Simple and Efficient Synthesis of Ferrocenyl Enones and Alkynols

Propargylic alcohols are versatile precursors to many organic molecules including natural products and pharmaceutical compounds.[1] In our continuing interest in the development of practical methods for synthesis of ferrocene derivatives, we decided to investigate the efficiencies of ferrocenylacetylene addition to aromatic aldehydes under t-BuOKcatalyzed condition.[2] Interestingly, we found that the usually reliable coupling reaction between terminal alkyne of type 1 and aromatic aldehydes of type 2 does not furnish the expected propargylic alcohols, but that the isomeric aryl enones 3are found in high yield and very short reaction time (10～20 min). This provided a promising protocol for preparation of ferrocenyl chalcones in a practical, economical and mild sense compared with the traditional method. To the best of our knowledge, this unusual reaction was first observed for the addition of ferrocenylacetylene to aldehyde in a base-catalyzed manner (Eq. 1).

Optical bistability based on surface plasmon coupled between two noble metal films involving Kerr materials

We successfully investigate an optical bistability phenomenon in a layered structure consisting of Kretschmann configuration involving the Kerr-type nonlinear and the silver film. Pure theoretical approaches are employed to investigate that the surface plasmon could easily be coupled and both the reflection and transmission curves versus the incident intensity forms optical bistability. The transmission curves are greatly influenced by the thickness of the second silver film. These results may be useful for designing novel surface plasmon-based optical devices and will be essential for future classical and quantum information processes.     

超声波提取-氢化物发生-原子荧光光谱法测定稻米中的硒

建立了超声波提取-氢化物发生-原子荧光光谱法测定稻米硒含量的分析方法,对仪器条件和反应条件进行了选择、优化.样品加硝酸-高氯酸(3+2)混酸,超声波提取20min,热消解.在铁氰化钾-盐酸体系中,采用校准曲线法定量分析.结果表明,大米标准物质中硒的测定值与标准值相吻合.该法线性范围为0-20μg/L,检出限为0.2μg/L,回收率为92.4％-103.9％,相对标准偏差为3.1％-5.8％.方法准确、灵敏、简便、快速,是测定稻米中硒含量的理想方法.     

Instability of Electromagnetic Ion Cyclotron Harmonic Waves in Plasmas

The stability of electromagnetic ion cyclotron harmonic waves propagating normal to an external magnetic field is studied for plasmas whose ions possess loss cone type velocity distributions. It is found that, if the ions are stationary, no instability develops except in the extreme case when the ratio of parallel to perpendicular "temperatures" of the ions is of the order mi/me, where mi and me are the ion and electron masses respectively. However, for the case of two counterstreaming ion beams in a neutralizing background of electrons, instability at zero frequency and near the first several ion cyclotron harmonics can occur if the streaming velocity is of the order of the electron thermal speed.     

Analysis of Asymmetric Long-Range Surface-Plasmon Waveguide with High-Confinement Mode

We model and study the asymmetric long-range surface-plasmon waveguides using the finite-element method. We introduce two types of asymmetric structures and discuss their modal properties compared to traditional long-range surface-plasmon waveguides. Although the propagation distance is decreased, the energy-confinement capability is improved for asymmetric long-range waveguiding structures when the geometrical parameters are properly selected. Our simulation result offers guidance for tuning properties of plasmonic waveguides and providing ways for enhancing electromagnetic energy confinement in long-range surface-plasmon waveguides.     

白灵菇多糖的提取及含量的测定

苯酚-硫酸分光光度法测定白灵菇中多糖含量。测定波长485nm,多糖换算因子f=1.59,在5.00—70.00μg/mL范围内吸光度与被测物含量呈良好的线性关系,相关系数r=0.9998,方法的回收率在96.66%—102.33%%之间,相对标准偏差RSD在2.01%—3.10%之间。测定结果表明,白灵菇中含有丰富的多糖。本法简便、准确、重现性好,可作为白灵菇多糖含量的测定方法。     

Effects of level and frequency on the audibility of partials in inharmonic complex tones

The effect of level and frequency on the audibility of partials was measured for complex tones with partials uniformly spaced on an equivalent rectangular bandwidth (ERB(N)) number scale. On each trial, subjects heard a sinusoidal "probe" followed by a complex tone. The probe was mistuned downwards or upwards (at random) by 4.5% from the frequency of one randomly selected partial in the complex. The subject indicated whether the probe was higher or lower in frequency than the nearest partial in the complex. The frequencies were roved from trial to trial, keeping frequency ratios fixed. In experiment 1, the level per partial, L, was 40 or 70 dB SPL and the mean frequency of the central partial, f(c), was 1201 Hz. Scores for the highest and lowest partials in the complexes were generally high for all spacings. Scores for the inner partials were close to chance at 0.75-ERB(N) spacing, and improved as the spacing was increased up to 2 ERB(N). For intermediate spacings, performance was better for the lower level used. In experiment 2, L was 70 dB SPL and f(c) was 3544 Hz. Performance worsened markedly for partial frequencies above 3544 Hz, consistent with a role of phase locking.
