Flow of a micropolar fluid due to a porous stretching sheet and heat transfer

The present work investigates the micropolar fluid flow due to a permeable stretching sheet and the resulting heat transfer. Unlike the existing numerical works on the flow phenomenon in the literature, the prime interest here is to analytically work out shape of the solutions and identify whether they are unique. Indeed, unique solutions are detected and presented in the exact formulas for the associated boundary layer equations. Temperature field influenced by the microrotation is also mathematically resolved in the cases of constant wall temperature, constant heat flux and Newtonian heating. To discover the salient physical features of many mechanisms acting on the considered problem, it is adequate to have the analytical velocity and temperature fields and also closed-form skin friction/couple stress/heat transfer coefficients, all as given in the current paper. For instance, the practically significant rate of heat transfer is represented by a single formula valid for all three temperature cases.     

Flocking and asymptotic velocity of the Cucker–Smale model with processing delay

The processing delay is incorporated into the influence function of the well-known Cucker–Smale model for self-organized systems with multiple agents. Both symmetric and non-symmetric pairwise influence functions are considered, and a Lyapunov functional approach is developed to establish the existence of flocking solutions for the proposed delayed Cucker–Smale model. An analytic formula is given to calculate the asymptotic flocking velocity in terms of model parameters and the variation of the position during the initial time interval.     

Existence and uniqueness of maximal strong solution of a 1D blood flow in a network of vessels

We study the well-posedness of a system of one-dimensional partial differential equations modeling blood flows in a network of vessels with viscoelastic walls. We prove the existence and uniqueness of maximal strong solution for this type of hyperbolic/parabolic model. We also prove a stability estimate under suitable nonlinear Robin boundary conditions.     

On weighted spectral radius of unraveled balls and normalized Laplacian eigenvalues

For a graph G, the unraveled ball of radius r centered at a vertex v is the ball of radius r centered at v in the universal cover of G. We obtain a lower bound on the weighted spectral radius of unraveled balls of fixed radius in a graph with positive weights on edges, which is used to present an upper bound on the $s^{\text{th}}$ (where $s\ge 2$) smallest normalized Laplacian eigenvalue of irregular graphs under minor assumptions. Moreover, when $s=2$, the result may be regarded as an Alon–Boppana type bound for a class of irregular graphs.     

Modification of the Solution Behavior of Pd12L24 Metal–Organic Nanocages via PEGylation

The dilute solutions behaviors of Pd₁₂L₂₄ metal–organic nanocage and its two PEGylated derivatives are explored. The basic nanocages can self‐assemble into vesicle‐like blackberry structures in polar solvents via counterion‐mediated attraction, whereas the PEGylated nanocages always stay as discrete ions under the same conditions, demonstrating that the PEGylation can improve the stability of the single nanocages. In addition, larger nanocages are found to self‐assemble in less polar solvents.

New simple exact penalty function for constrained minimization

By adding one variable to the equality-or inequality-constrained minimization problems, a new simple penalty function is proposed. It is proved to be exact in the sense that under mild assumptions, the local minimizers of this penalty function are precisely the local minimizers of the original problem, when the penalty parameter is sufficiently large.

Supramolecular control over LCST behavior of hybrid macrocyclic system based on pillar[5]arene and crown ether

A hybrid system containing a pillar[5]arene unit and ten crown ether moieties was developed. The LCST behavior and thermo-responsiveness were successfully introduced into this pillar[5]arene-crown ether system. Both host-guest interactions and salting-out effect displayed great effects in realizing the supramolecular control over LCST properties and thermo-responsiveness. Compared with the individual macrocycles, this hybrid macrocycle system dramatically amplified the supramolecular control effect over LCST behavior.     

硼对第二代镍基单晶高温合金显微组织的影响

硼(B)是强化镍基单晶合金小角度晶界的重要微量元素,但目前关于B对镍基单晶合金显微组织影响的系统报道非常有限。通过对3种不同B含量(质量分数分别为0、0.01%、0.02%)的第二代镍基单晶合金DD11铸态及热处理态组织定量表征,研究了B对相转变温度、(γ+γ′)共晶组织、硼化物的影响。结果表明:B显著降低合金的固液相线,提高铸态共晶组织体积分数;0.01%B的加入,合金中未出现M3B2型硼化物相;而0.02%B的加入,显著促进了骨架状硼化物的形成,降低合金初熔点,引起残余共晶含量的大幅度提高;骨架状硼化物吸收较多的Cr、Mo和W等元素,降低合金的固溶强化效果,可导致单晶合金基体的蠕变性能大幅度降低。研究结果对认识单晶合金中微量元素B的作用机理及优化B成分范围具有理论指导意义。
