Critical behavior of the two-dimensional generalized XY model involving solely nematic-like terms of the second, third and fourth orders is studied by Monte Carlo method. We find that such a system can undergo three successive phase transitions. At higher temperatures there is a phase transition of the Berezinskii–Kosterlitz–Thouless type to the q=4 nematic-like phase, followed by two more transitions of the Ising type to the q=2 nematic-like and ferromagnetic phases, respectively. The q nematic-like phases are characterized by spin alignments with angles 2kπ/q, where kq is an integer. The ferromagnetic phase appears at low temperatures even without the presence of magnetic interactions owing to a synergic effect of the nematic-like terms.  相似文献

We develop a mixed-transfer-matrix approach for computing the macroscopic conductivity of a three-constituent normal conductor/perfect insulator/perfect conductor random network. This is applied to two-dimensional and three-dimensional samples at a percolation threshold. Such networks are simulated in order to test whether a diluted percolating network of normal conducting bonds remains in the same universality class of critical behavior when a finite fraction of those bonds have been replaced by perfectly conducting bonds. Also tested by such simulations is whether a percolating mixture of normal and perfectly conducting bonds remains in the same universality class of critical behavior when a finite fraction of the normal bonds are replaced by perfectly insulating bonds. These questions are crucial for some recently published exact results which connect the macroscopic electrical and elastic responses of percolating networks.  相似文献

We discuss a new gravitational effect that the wave packet of a free-fall quantum particle undergoes a spin-dependent transverse shift in Earth's gravitational field. This effect is similar to the geometric spin Hall effect (GSHE) (Aiello 2009 et al Phys. Rev. Lett. 103 100401 ), and can be called gravity-induced GSHE. This effect suggests that the free-fall wave packets of opposite spin-polarized quantum particles can be split in the direction perpendicular to spin and gravity.  相似文献

High-order cumulants and factorial cumulants of conserved charges are suggested for the study of the critical dynamics in heavy-ion collision experiments. In this paper, using the parametric representation of the three-dimensional Ising model which is believed to belong to the same universality class as quantum chromo-dynamics, the temperature dependence of the second- to fourth-order (factorial) cumulants of the order parameter is studied. It is found that the values of the normalized cumulants are independent of the external magnetic field at the critical temperature, which results in a fixed point in the temperature dependence of the normalized cumulants. In finite-size systems simulated using the Monte Carlo method, this fixed point behavior still exists at temperatures near the critical. This fixed point behavior has also appeared in the temperature dependence of normalized factorial cumulants from at least the fourth order. With a mapping from the Ising model to QCD, the fixed point behavior is also found in the energy dependence of the normalized cumulants (or fourth-order factorial cumulants) along different freeze-out curves.  相似文献

We investigate the area distribution of clusters (loops) in the honeycomb O(n) loop model by means of the worm algorithm with n = 0.5, 1, 1.5, and 2. At the critical point, the number of clusters, whose enclosed area is greater than A, is proportional to A-1 with a proportionality constant C. We confirm numerically that C is universal, and its value agrees well with the predictions based on the Coulomb gas method.  相似文献

In order to gain a deeper understanding of the quantum criticality in the explicitly staggered dimerized Heisenberg models,we study a generalized staggered dimer model named the J0-J1-J2 model,which corresponds to the staggered J-J ' model on a square lattice and a honeycomb lattice when J1/J0 equals 1 and 0,respectively.Using the quantum Monte Carlo method,we investigate all the quantum critical points of these models with J1/J0 changing from 0 to 1 as a function of coupling ratio α=J2/J0.We extract all the critical values of the coupling ratio αc for these models,and we also obtain the critical exponents ν,β/ν,and η using different finite-size scaling anstz,.All these exponents are not consistent with the three-dimensional Heisenberg universality class,indicating some unconventional quantum ciritcial points in these models.  相似文献

A stochastic local limited one-dimensional rice-pile model is numerically investigated. The distributions for avalanche sizes have a clear power-law behavior and it displays a simple finite size scaling. We obtain the avalanche exponents τs=1.54±0.10, βs=2.17±0.10 and τT=1.80±0.10, βT=1.46±0.10. This self-organized critical model belongs to the same universality class with the Oslo rice-pile model studied by K. Christensen et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett. 77 (1996) 107], a rice-pile model studied by L.A.N. Amaral et al. [Phys. Rev. E 54 (1996) 4512], and a simple deterministic self-organized critical model studied by M.S. Vieira [Phys. Rev.
