A RANDOM FIXED POINT ITERATION FOR THREE RANDOM OPERATORS ON UNIFORMLY CONVEX BANACH SPACES

In the present paper we introduce a random iteration scheme for three random operators defined on a closed and convex subset of a uniformly convex Banach space and prove its convergence to a common fixed point of three random operators. The result is also an extersion of a known theorem in the corresponding non-random case.

Let be the convolution of the distribution of a random series inE with independent one-dimensional components and an arbitrary probability measure onE. Under some assumptions about the components and the smoothness of the norm we show that there exists a constant such that |{·<t}–{·+r<t}|r ^q , whereq depends on the properties of the norm. We specify it in the case ofL spaces, >1.

On guaranteed stability of uncertain linear systems via linear control

This paper addresses the problem of stabilizing an uncertain linear system. The uncertaintyq(·) which enters the dynamics is nonstistical in nature. That is, noa priori statistics forq(·) are assumed; only boundsQ on the admissible variations ofq(·) are taken as given. The results given here applied to so-called matched systems differ from previous results in two ways. Firstly, the stabilizing control in this paper is linear; for this same class of problems, many of the existing results would require a nonlinear control. Furthermore, those results which do in fact yield linear controls are only valid when a certain matrix (q) (formed using the given data) is negative definite for allq Q. In contrast, the theory given here only requires compactness of the bounding setQ. Secondly, we show that the so-called matching conditions (used in earlier work) can be generalized so as to encompass a larger class of dynamical systems.This research was supported by the US Department of Energy under Contract No. ET-78-S-01-3390.     

Uniformly non-l n (1) Musielak-Orlicz sequence spaces

We give a necessary and sufficient condition for the uniformly non-l _n ⁽¹⁾ property of Musielak-Orlicz sequence spacesl ^Φ generated by a sequence Φ=(ϕ_n:n⩾l) of finite Orlicz functions such that for eachn∈ℕ. As a result, forn ₀⩾2, there exist spacesl ^Φ which are only uniformly non-l _n ⁽¹⁾ forn⩾n ₀. Moreover we obtain a characterization of uniformly non-l _n ⁽¹⁾ and reflexive Orlicz sequence spaces over a wide class of purely atomic measures and of uniformly non-l _n ⁽¹⁾ Nakano sequence spaces.
