Estimating a survival function with incomplete cause-of-death data

We propose a random censorship model which permits uncertainty in the cause of death assessments for a subset of the subjects in a survival experiment. A nonparametric maximum likelihood approach and a “self-consistency” approach are considered. The solution sets corresponding to both approaches are found. They are infinite and identical. Only some of the solutions are consistent; i.e., the MLEs and self-consistent estimators are not consistent in general. Two estimates are thus proposed and their asymptotic properties are studied. It is shown that both estimates are strongly consistent and converge to Gaussian processes. The covariance structures of these Gaussian processes are derived.     

A Construction of Sequentially Cohen-Macaulay Graphs

For every simple graph G,a class of multiple clique cluster-whiskered graphs Geπm is introduced,and it is shown that all such graphs are vertex decomposable;thus,the independence simplicial complex IndGeπm is sequentially Cohen-Macaulay.The properties of the graphs Geπm and Gπ constructed by Cook and Nagel are studied,including the enumeration of facets of the complex Ind Gπ and the calculation of Betti numbers of the cover ideal Ic(Geπ").We also prove that the complex △ =IndH is strongly shellable and pure for either a Boolean graph H =Bn or the full clique-whiskered graph H =Gw of G,which is obtained by adding a whisker to each vertex of G.This implies that both the facet ideal I(△) and the cover ideal Ic(H) have linear quotients.     

Spectral asymptotics and basis properties of fourth order differential operators with regular boundary conditions

In this paper, we consider the problem where λ is a spectral parameter; q(x) ∈ L₁(0,1) is complex‐valued function; α_s, s = 1,2,3, are arbitrary complex constants that satisfy α₂ = α₁ + α₃ and σ = 0,1. The boundary conditions of this problem are regular, but not strongly regular. Asymptotic formulae for eigenvalues and eigenfunctions of the considered boundary value problem are established. It is proved that all the eigenvalues, except for finite number, are simple and the system of root functions of this spectral problem forms a basis in the space L_p(0,1), 1 < p < ∞ , when ; moreover, this basis is unconditional for p = 2. We note that the considered problem was previously investigated in the condition of α₂ ≠ α₁ + α₃. Copyright © 2013 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Convergence analysis for system of equilibrium problems and left bregman strongly relatively nonexpansive mapping

In this paper, we prove strong convergence theorems for approximation of a fixed point of a left Bregman strongly relatively nonexpansive mapping which is also a solution to a finite system of equilibrium problems in the framework of reflexive real Banach spaces. We also discuss the approximation of a common fixed point of a family of left Bregman strongly nonexpansive mappings which is also solution to a finite system of equilibrium problems in reflexive real Banach spaces. Our results complement many known recent results in the literature.     

Infinite horizon stopping problems with (nearly) total reward criteria

We study an infinite horizon optimal stopping Markov problem which is either undiscounted (total reward) or with a general Markovian discount rate. Using ergodic properties of the underlying Markov process, we establish the feasibility of the stopping problem and prove the existence of optimal and ε$\epsilon$-optimal stopping times. We show the continuity of the value function and its variational characterisation (in the viscosity sense) under different sets of assumptions satisfied by large classes of diffusion and jump–diffusion processes. In the case of a general discounted problem we relax a classical assumption that the discount rate is uniformly separated from zero.

Here we solve positively a stronger version of this problem forC ¹ small perturbations of the original flow.

t-Spread strongly stable monomial ideals*

We introduce the concept of t-spread monomials and t-spread strongly stable ideals. These concepts are a natural generalization of strongly stable and squarefree strongly stable ideals. For the study of this class of ideals we use the t-fold stretching operator. It is shown that t-spread strongly stable ideals are componentwise linear. Their height, their graded Betti numbers and their generic initial ideal are determined. We also consider the toric rings whose generators come from t-spread principal Borel ideals.     

Functional ergodic limits for occupation time processes of site-dependent branching Brownian motions in R

We consider a kind of site-dependent branching Brownian motions whose branching laws depend on the site-branching factorσ(·).We focus on the functional ergodic limits for the occupation time processes of the models in R.It is proved that the limiting process has the form ofλξ(·),where A is the Lebesgue measure on IE andξ(·)is a real-valued process which is non-degenerate if and only ifσis integrable.Whenξ(·)is non-degenerate,it is strictly positive for t0.Moreover,ξconverges to O in finite-dimensional distributions if the integral ofσtends to infinity.
