以绥李三号、绫棱红、吉林六号为试材,对影响裂果的生理指标进行了测试,结果表明,果实硬度不均匀性促进果实开裂,水分影响裂果,而可溶性固性物含量与裂果无明显相关。在防止措施上,喷施硼砂溶液可减轻裂果比率。

CD36, a scavenger receptor implicated in atherosclerosis

CD36 is a membrane glycoprotein that is present on various types of cells, including monocytes, macrophages, microvascular endothelial cells, adipocytes and platelets. Macrophage CD36 participates in atherosclerotic arterial lesion formation through its interaction with oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL), which triggers signaling cascades for inflammatory responses. CD36 functions in oxLDL uptake and foam cell formation, which is the initial critical stage of atherosclerosis. In addition, oxLDL via CD36 inhibits macrophage migration, which may be a macrophage-trapping mechanism in atherosclerotic lesions. The role of CD36 was examined in in vitro studies and in vivo experiments, which investigated various functions of CD36 in atherosclerosis and revealed that CD36 deficiency reduces atherosclerotic lesion formation. Platelet CD36 also promotes atherosclerotic inflammatory processes and is involved in thrombus formation after atherosclerotic plaque rupture. Because CD36 is an essential component of atherosclerosis, defining the function of CD36 and its corresponding signaling pathway may lead to a new treatment strategy for atherosclerosis.     

High-temperature (GC)2/MS investigations

The analysis of low volatile compounds by (GC)²/MS using high-temperature stable glass-capillary columns and a commercially available GC/quadrupole MS instrument is described. It will be shown that no special modifications or procedures are required in analyzing organic compounds exceeding carbon numbers of 50. The application to industrially and naturally occuring high boiling mixtures will be discussed.     

Synthesis of 3-halo-analogues of HHQ, subsequent cross-coupling and first crystal structure of Pseudomonas quinolone signal (PQS)

2-Aryl- and 2-alkyl-quinolin-4-ones and their N-substituted derivatives have several important biological functions such as the Pseudomonas quinolone signal (PQS) molecule participation in quorum sensing. Herein, we report the synthesis of its biological precursor, 2-heptyl-4-hydroxy-quinoline (HHQ) and possible isosteres of PQS; the C-3 Cl, Br and I analogues. N-Methylation of the iodide was also feasible and the usefulness of this compound showcased in Pd-catalysed cross-coupling reactions, thus allowing access to a diverse set of biologically important molecules. The first crystal structure of PQS is also included.     

Texture and Optical Studies of the Mesophases of Cyanocyclohexyl Cyclohexanes

Optical studies have been conducted as a function of temperature on two (CCH₃ and CCH₇) of the three odd members of the homologous series of the mesogen trans, trans-4′-alkyl-bicyclohexyl-4-carbonitrite. From birefringence studies the variation of the orientational order parameter ? P₂ ? with temperature of the two members has been determined. Texture studies have been conducted to identify hitherto unidentified phases. A comparative study of the temperature dependence of the refractive indices n _e, n _o , and ? P₂ ? of all the three members CCH₃, CCH₅, CCH₇ have been presented with a view to study the effect of increasing chain length. Comparison of the experimentally obtained ? P₂ ? values has been made with theoretical values predicted by the Maier-Saupe theory.
